I made a call to the doctors office and I'm awaiting their call back but in the meantime I figured I would come on here and see if anyone knows what this is. I woke up and I have some pain on my lower left hand side, below my ribs, that wraps around to my back. On that same side I also have slight shoulder pain. Please tell me this is just gas or something? since I haven't had a bowel movement since Monday. I have milk of magnesia but I was told only to take it once a week so my body doesn't become dependent on it. Also, I don't (haven't really) passed any gas. I hope I'm freaking out for nothing. I was sleeved on December 18th.

extreme gas pains on sides and ribs
Ree replied to rxkid2384's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wait what? I am having pain on my left side too and it wraps around to my back. I thought kidneys at first but this could be a sign of gallbladder problems? What can I do to make it go away? as a side note, the doctor prescribed me medication to prevent gallbladder problems. Will taking that resolve these issues? -
I feel like I just went through a bunch of bs that was not needed. I had a ct scan and they found nothing and sent me home. I was still in pain though. I came home and took milk of magnesia (that stuff tastes horrible!) and I was finally able to go to the bathroom and now I feel better. But now I have another problem. For the CT scan they put a dye in my body and they told me on my discharge papers that I was required to drink 4 (8 ounce) glasses within 4 hours to flush the dye out of my body. Well I'm lucky if I was able to get in 1 full 8 ounce glass. So now I don't know what that means or if the dye will just eventually leave my body on it's own just over a longer period of time?

They called back and want me to come in for a CT scan right now. I hope it's just gas. That's what I think too but I know the weekend is coming up and I would rather know for sure.

Really? did you request the card? I never heard of such a thing lol. I wonder if my bariatric office would give me a card?

I never actually got sick. I didn't know there was swelling in my throat as well as my stomach. It feels like it's in my throat so I have to keep swallowing. So does that annoyance eventually go away?

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?
Ree replied to sleevinIT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How are all the December sleevers doing? It's been one week exactly from my surgery and I am down 13 pounds in 1 week! and a total of 26 pounds from my HW. Super stoked about those numbers! -
When do the staples on my stomach come out? and does it hurt when they take them out?
-
Thanks guys. I'm really freaked out by this. I too thought I was getting dissolvable stitches, but nope they are staples. I hope it doesn't hurt coming out and yes I am starting to itch around the incision areas. I hope that goes away soon too.

Not the staples in my stomach, the staples on my stomach, the ones I can see. In each of my incisions I have 3 or 4 staples.

I have not been able to go to the bathroom!
Ree replied to Ree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanted to say thank you for your suggestion. It totally worked! I feel like I lost 10 pounds in the toilet tonight lol. -
That makes sense. Thanks. Certainly not something I want to get into the habit of doing.
-
Have you ever chewed up food and spit it out? I know it's probably not something to get in to the habit of but tonight I just wanted to feel FOOD in my mouth so I chewed on a small piece of hotdog and then spit it out. I've seen a few youtube video's of people admitting to doing the same thing.

Those first 2 weeks... how much did you eat?
Ree posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just trying to see if how much I'm eating is the norm or not. I am 4 days post op and right now I drink 2 Protein shakes during the day and 1/4 cup of low fat yogurt. I am also able to get in about 30 ounces of Water a day as well. Averaging about 500 to 600 calories and between 50 and 60 grams of protein. What did your daily meal plan look like in those first 2 weeks? -
December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?

Today I am 4 days post op and still in a lot of pain. My husband has to go back to work today so I'm on my own with my 3 year old. Hopefully she will behave for me because physically I am unable to care for her to my full potential but I have no choice. I also weighed myself today for the first time and I lost 10 pounds since surgery day. I'm very happy with that number! -
I'm in the hospital right now and was sleeved yesterday. When I asked about the leak test I was told I would'nt be getting one because I don't have a drain. Does this sound normal? Did anyone else not need a leak test or not have a drain? Now I'm worried.

How is everyone post op feeling? I was sleeved on the 18th and I'm still struggling with the pain as expected. Especially in the area where they took out my stomach. My suggestion is to use a pillow and hold it up against that area on your stomach when you go to get up from a laying or sitting position. It helps! I've been walking around the house in 10 to 15 min increments and that helps with the shoulder pain but the pain is still there. I am still on pain meds and anti nausea meds. I also have not weighed myself at all. Has anyone else not weighed their selves since coming home from the hospital? I've just been in so much pain that I can't be bothered with pulling out the scale and weighing myself. I am going to try and stick with weigh in's on Sunday's and Wednesday's for a few months and then cut that down to weigh in's once a week after that. I hope everyone is doing well! and I can't wait till I start feeling better!! -
How common is shoulder pain and did you experience it? I'm having shoulder pain in my left shoulder that comes and goes. And I was wondering how long it will be before the pain usually goes away? FYI I have not been able to pass any gas yet except through my Mouth.
-
Thank you. It just seemed that everyone had a leak test and drain so I was concerned about not having one. I'm still having a hard time figuring out what full feels like? I feel bloated so maybe that's it. My doctor gave me a cup of water and told me to just drink it at my own pace. I've been worried that I might drink too much or too fast but I've been taking it slow and so far so good.

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?
Ree replied to sleevinIT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey everyone, still in the hospital but should be going home tomorrow afternoon. I requested my own room but there were none available and so I ended up with the most annoying roommate EVER!!! To start with the recovery floor is not just for bariatric patients, its for anyone who got any type of surgery. So this roommate kept asking me to get up and help her and when I tried to explain to her that I'm unable too, she got mean! Then she kept grabbing the curtain that separates us and pulling it back so I had to call the nurse for help. Finally they put her out in the hallway. Gosh the last thing I needed to deal with right after getting surgery. So after surgery I was in so much pain, it was horrible! That whole first day was Bad but it was worse when iI had to get up out of bed. My suggestion to all you pre sleevers is to walk when you get up to you the restroom. I was only able to do a half lap that first day but the second day I did 17 laps (a little more than a half mile) so feeling much better the second day. I was not allowed anything by mouth until 24hrs after surgery, and then they gave me water. They said no ice chips because it tends to cause more nausea in patients. I've done well with the water so far and tonight they gave me an unjury shake which was good. So far no vomiting but the nurses have been keeping me on pain and anti nausea meds around the clock. Well I'm off to do some more walking so good luck to anyone getting the surgery today or tomorrow. -
In a few more weeks my sister is coming to stay with me. She may want to live with me. She will also have her daughter with her who is around my daughters age (3 &4 years old). I was wondering how I might feel almost a month out? having her here might be stressful for me but I can also see how it can be helpful too. If she thinks I'm not feeling well she will help me out with my daughter and household chores. However I have chosen not to tell anyone about this surgery. My surgery is tomorrow.

Me too! I leave in about a 1/2 hour to go to the hospital. Good luck to you!

December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?

I'm counting down the hours now and my poor stomach likes to show it's hurt by being angry. I swear I've been getting yelled at all night by my stomach. Kind of feel bad that I'm severing it in just hours from now but it's coming between me and where I'm trying to go. It's standing in my way. I will try to get on here and give an update once I am out of surgery and alert enough to respond. Surgery is scheduled for 12:45 am. I need to be at the hospital at 10:45 am. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. -
I love my sister to pieces but she has got a big mouth so I don't feel telling her would be good. She would be seriously itching to tell someone. I'm trying to think of something I can possibly tell her if she starts asking questions about my eating habits. Maybe I'll tell her it's a new diet fad I found online or something. The diet being 'the newborn stage' diet. Where you start from the beginning and work your way up.
