I used to think surgery was the easy way out. I watched two family get gastric bypass and would be disappointed that they didn't try harder at losing weight first. I only saw the before and after, never thinking about the in between. Afterall, I lost 70 lbs on my own, back in 2006/2007 on Weight Watchers. My mother also lost 100 lbs on Weight Watchers. Couldn't figure out why others couldn't do it! After the trials and tribulation of life, that dreaded weight and then some, came back. I found it harder to lose. My aliments were getting worse - arthritic knees & hips. I lost 25 here, gained 10 there, etc. A constant struggle, followed by depression and lack of motivation. That lead me to my love - FOOD. I decided something had to be done. Even at my lowest - 224 lbs in my adult life, I was still overweight. I didn't want to spend the next 35 yrs of my life being fluffy, plump or thick. I wanted to give my daughter what she deserved, a participating mother.
So with some serious soul-searching, I decided on surgery. I started my journey on November 2, 2012. I was overwhelmed at my visit. A lot of info was given and I had a lot to schedule. Close to 20 appointments, by the time everything was said and done. I had to change my eating habits from 2000+ calories to 1200. 1200? How could I survive that, I thought. But I did and I DID. I had to start exercising too. Pfft, who needs that, right? ME. I DID. And I started to see the weight drop off and I felt so incredibly elated! I felt like food didn't control me anymore.
The Sleeve is going to save my life, in more ways than one. There are so many things I can't wait to experience and things I'm dying to experience again. This is the beginning of a new life, I can't wait to finally participate in it :)
