Anyone w/ a BMI under 40 and self pay?
Linkin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am debating if it is worth having the surgery since I will have to be self pay? I hate the idea of putting my family in so much debt, but I haven't been able to lose the weight on my own. I am a BMI of 37, so on the smaller side but still very much overweight. For anyone w/ a smaller BMI and has had surgery, was it worth putting thousands of dollars out? I can't handle going to Mexico so it would be 12-15K in the states. -
I am about 13 months out and questioning my capacity. I am super hungry about 2-3 hours after I have eaten. Even if my meal was solid protein. For dinner I ate about 8oz of steak and 1/2 a small baked potato. My hunger kicked in about 2 months ago. Not sure if it was caused by 1) I started working out about 6 hours a week. Had not done this before 2) I stopped taking my migraine med (topamax, I am told it can suppresses appetite) or 3) this is normal?? I hit my doc's goal at about 6 months(180) and my goal (155) at 9 months. I have been fluctuating between 151-155 since February. I am so afraid to gain weight back but I do not want to starve my body either. My doc has been adamant that I intake 1200+ calories since day one.

13 months out - normal capacity?
Linkin replied to Linkin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not sure how to describe it....it is a competitive game where you skate in a group trying to pass members of the other team. There is a lot of contact to block or knock out members of the other team. Aggressive skating. I've never sweated so much in my life! -
13 months out - normal capacity?
Linkin replied to Linkin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am skating (roller derby) for 2 hours x3 a week. I would think it is a lot of cardio but some strength also. I haven't gained any weight but I do fluctuate the same few pounds from week to week (for 3 months now). -
Ever find anyone good??

5/16 and I am down 70 pounds!
-
I am 5 months in and have lost 70 pounds. I eat anything. Rice, pasta, and bread fill me up faster so I don't eat much of those. I would rather eat more of the other stuff. I eat a ton of beef jerky. I do eat sweets like ice cream and things like that but my portions are small and occasional. If my family eats out I can eat a whole piece of pizza (sometimes the crust). Most of a 1/4 sub. Most of a cheeseburger. Meals at home are 3-4 ounces if meat and a Tspoonful of veggies and a spoonful of mashed potatoes.

Sleeved in may and hit a stall
Linkin replied to jerseygirl31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved May 16th. I have lost 57 pounds so far and had had no stalls until this last two weeks. No weight loss in the last two weeks :/ I always read on here that it is normal but still makes me nervous. I started at 247 with a goal of 150ish. My doc said that was too low and 180 was more realistic. I am hoping he was wrong and I am not nearing the end! -
I think all docs are different on alcohol too. My doc said that I was good to drink at my 8 week check up. But did warn that it was wasted calories and that many people told him that it effected them much quicker than prior to surgery. I don't eat or graze on nights out with friends anymore so it is a nice options to nurse a glass of wine.

My doc agrees with what you have posted here. He says he does not believe that it stretches your stomach but it will cause excess gas and pain. I tried soda once about 10 weeks in and when I thought a burp was coming it ended up being all my soda. With such a tiny stomach I don't think there is anywhere for the air/gas to go. I'll stck with my Snapple diet peach tea for now

May 2013 sleeves- how much can you eat?
Linkin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am about 11 weeks out and am curious how much others can eat at one time. While I am still very restricted in what I eat, I can eat 2-3 times as much as the only person I know who has been sleeved. She is open about her surgery (and about a year out) and I've told no one about mine. She can't even tell I've had surgery. My doc says what I eat is fine, but it still makes me nervous. -
Estimated caloric intake BEFORE and AFTER surgery?
Linkin replied to Reigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I assume that before I was anywhere from 2500-4000 a day. Now I am 9 weeks out and am at 900-1000 per day. Closer to 500 if I don't hit my protein (there are days I just crave a salad!). -
Anyone not take a vitamin?

I feel like I need to burp but I can't. Often after eating but other times between meals also. I am fairly sure that I am not overheating as I can eat the same thing/amount with no issue a dozen times but then have an issue with it. How do you burp!? Pre surgery I would have a coke a problem solved.

Curios question........What is your average weight loss each week?
Linkin replied to Beach Lover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1-2 pounds although it was higher the first 3 weeks. -
I was done on the 16th I know all docs are different but mine wanted me on more food and less protein shakes. I probably eat 2x as much food as you in a day minus the shakes. A lot of chicken.

So...tell me about dilation!
Linkin replied to LipstickLady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried to eat other foods and been unsuccessful? I believe we were done on the same day and I can eat chicken breast and turkey just fine. Something about tuna and cottage cheese makes me want to throw up though, so maybe it is just that particular food. -
What does caffeine do to your sleeve? I thought I was being a good little sleever and not having caffeine as the Snapple label makes no mention of caffeine BUT after 5 weeks I found out that it really does have caffeine. Caffeine is a big no no per my doc till after 12 weeks.
-
I am 5 weeks out and I can eat about half a cup of food (like black beans and chicken breast).
-
I started at 247 and am at 219 now three weeks out. I started with a lower bmi so it is better than I expected so far.

This is what my doc does... Days 1-2 clear liquids Days 3-6 add light yogurt, cream Soups (strained), applesauce, thin oatmeal and Protein shakes. Days 7 add refried Beans thinned with skim milk, cottage cheese, scr eggs Day 14 add deli turkey/ chicken, baked/ oiled fish, tuna, soy burger, yogurt, ricotta, cooked veggies, cheese, and canned fruit (no sugar) Day 50 start adding everything else, just restrict to one new food per day From what I can tell my doc is pretty liberal with the diet. He has no food restrictions. I am on day 23 and the only thing I've had issues with (from the list) is melted cheese. I don't think I could get it chewed upwelling enough.

3 weeks post op with a crap immune system.
Linkin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 3 weeks post op and although the surgery went great, no complications- I keep getting sick. The week after surgery I had a sore throat.. I assiumed it was from the tube and ignored it (they gave antibiotics while in the hospital) On day 8 (from surgery) I went to urgent care b/c my throat looked like cottage cheese (gross, sorry). They said I had strep And put me on antibiotics. Completed those on day 15...then on 17 I started feeling like crud again, I have a cough and I can't catch my breath. I went to my PCP and I have bronchitis. More antibiotics. Anyone else's immune system suck post surgey? -
