How long have you been band? Have you had a fill yet? Are you getting your 64oz of protein and 64 oz or water each day? I had a friend that it took 4 fills before her weight started to come off. She had gotten so discouraged but she is happy now. Everyone is diffrent when it comes to the lapband. Don't give up yet until you know that you are doing the things you should during the process. The people on this site is very knowlegable and give you the support you need to overcome this feeling. Even during my liquid stage, I still tried to get as much protein as possible. The protein is a must.

Getting banded Nov.29th - Bend, OR
Lottie replied to 4mykidzinVale's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was band on Oct 30th. I have not had any pain. NO gas pains or anything. The full liquid diet is ok. Yes I would like to eat something more but it's fine. I never really got nervous. My surgeon was remarkable. He told me exactly what to expect and everything has gone accordingly. You will do fine. Follow your doctor's orders. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask. Congratulations on your band date. I am going back to work on Tuesday, Nov 6th of next week. I could go Monday but I put in for one week off and I not going back until one full week. -
I wish you much success. I am going to band on Oct 30th also. I am really looking forward to it. I know what you mean about the pre-op diet but I am trying my best. It's not easy but I am taking one day at a time. Let me know how everything goes. Let's keep in touch.

I know you are ready to feel restriction but a friend of mind that was band in June didn't get restriction until her 4th fill. She is on her way to great weight loss now. Some people don't respond to the first couple of fills for some reason but please be patient. It's worth the wait and so are you. I wish you much sucess on your journey.

Liquid Vitamins ????
Lottie replied to hazeleyegrl1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your band. I hope your journey is a success. I bought the Centrum Liquid Vitamin (at Wal-Mart) When purchasing vitamins make sure that the vitamin you buy has mineral. This is what my nutritionist told me. She even mention the Viativ Chewable Multi-Vitamins. She said this is a good vitamin but lack minerals. This is just something to look for while shopping for your Liquid Multivitamin. She even said that the chewable children Flintstone vitamin is a great choice. You didn't mention your protein drink. Have you bought that also. A heating pad is your best friend I am told. I've bought one. I was told to buy some Mederma for the incisions and I had already bought some Benedryl Cream (anti-inch) I bought gauze 4X4 squares for when you change the bands on your incisions. I have bandaids. My nutritionist mention to get some supplement to get your Calcium. I bought the CITRICAL. (cube of chocolate candy) There are so many things you can buy but I guess you have to rationalize and decide if you really need it. I've bought almost anything anyone said they used. I just don't want anyone to have to go purchase anything for me after surgery. I want to have it all here at home. Hope everything goes well and let me know how the surgery goes. Make sure to get your prescriptions filled before you surgery. Oh yeah, I also bought some Adult TYLENOL LIQUID PAIN MEDICINE. (Just in case I need it). I got that at wal-mart also. -
Post Op Diet Journal - Phase 1

What's the name of the protein and how many proteins per pack? Is it located where the crystal light mixes are? I am trying to find a protein that I like. When I met with my nutritionist she told me about a unflavored protein that you can find at Wal-Green called Beneprotein. It comes in individual packets. You can mix it in soups or a bottle of water. (or anything else you want to mix it with) There are 6 grams of protein per servings. -

Were you able to reduce the meds for Asthma after your band? Do you think losing the weight helped you breathe better after the band? I am waiting to be band and hope that I can come off some of the asthma medications.

You have not runined you band. I have not been band yet but will be in October. When I meet with my surgeon he said that the sooner you start on solids the better you are. He usually starts his patient on solids at 3 weeks. Why do you feel like a failure? If you have your band removed or reversed? What will that make you? The band is a tool and I don't think any of us would have considered getting the band if we didn't want something different for our bodies as far as health and then our appearance. Hang in there, you will do just fine. Don't give up yet. YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE.

Is there a reason you have a name like 'death'? It's definitely an eye catcher. -
A big Hello, and a financial question
Lottie replied to arty4004's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was approved for this loan the same day I applied online. Visit: Cosmetic Surgery, Dental Procedures, Vision Costs and more: Healthcare financing OR: CALL 1-877-559-5050 They submitted this information to my surgeon. I've now decided to wait for insurance approval. They just started paying for the lapband April of this year. I am 4 months into the 6 month supervised weigh loss that is required by my insurance company. I wish you well on your journey. -LOTTIE -

Is recovery of hernia repair any different?
Lottie replied to wc_lady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi WC Lady, A friend of mind had lapband surgery 5 weeks ago and they realized she had a hernia during her surgery and they repaired it and continued with her surgery. She has not encountered any problems, had 2 fills and doing GREAT. How did you find out about the hernia before the surgery? Are there symptons? Just curious. You'll do just fine. -
CONGRATULATIONS TIM.... I wish you much success in your journey. Have you contacted a doctor in the states to do your fills? I am not banded yet but hope to in October. My insurance does pay and I am in the 6 month supervised diet stage at this time. Keep us posted. Have you chatted on LBT? There are wonderful people that are willing to answer any question you might have regarding band life. It's because of people on this site that I fully made my mind up to be band. I am usually online between 9:30-10:30 pm. Pop online and join in the conversation some times. I met two people on this site that flew to Mexico for surgery. One had it July 20th and returned to work on July 25th or July 26th. Both are doing great. The other had her surgery done on July 11 and back at working doing fine. I wish you the best. Keep me posted.

What the H!@!@!!! I got myself into?
Lottie replied to yummieT's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am sure it's normal to have these reactions. There are two people that I know who had the band sugery performed by the same Doctor that you are using. They are doing GREAT. One had their surgery July 20 and was back at work July 26, 2007. The other person I am referring to had her surgery on July 11th and doing excellent. I am going to ask them to send you a message on the board here so you can hear it from them. They really did raved over this doctor. They loved him. They were telling me that the patient coordinator met them at the airport and was with them during this process. Although it seems scary I am sure you'll do just fine and look back over this as one of the scariest moments yet one of the best things you've ever done for yourself. I wish you the best. -
Go to Welcome to LAP-BAND.com Find the seminar in your area then called and make an appointment. Once you find out all you can about the surgeon then you can proceed. Call your insurance company first and ask: Do you cover the adjustable lapband surgery? Make a note of the person you speak to because there was a place on the form that I submitted that ask for the person I spoke to at the insurance company. Once you go to the seminar you will schedule an appointment there after the seminar. They gave me a packet and I had to fill it out and bring it back to your following appointment. When you call your insurance they will tell you what is required from you if they are to approve the surgery. I have bcbs of alabama and they required me to do a 6 month supervised weight loss program from either your primary doctor or your some other place. The 6 months has to consecutive. If you attend weight watchers they will need to see your weight and hight documented for 6 consecutive months. I had to also have 3 consecutive years of notations showing height and weight. It can be from different doctors but must be consecutive. I had to show a 1 time attempt at weight lose weather was successful or not. You can also schedule an appointment with your primary docotor and get feed back from him. My doctor wrote a letter supporting my decision to have lap band surgery. A person on www.lapbandtalk.com suggested that I read this book. I read the book and LOVED IT. FIGHTING WIEGHT - Khalia Ali (Muhammand Ali Read the book, you'll like it. I hope this helps. I wish you much success. Hope to see you the web site soon.

Scared to tell boss any ideas?
Lottie replied to short1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am manager also and you are exactly right. This supervisor doesn't seem very educated to treat her employees this way. Law suits are filed everyday in the workplace due to people like this supervisor. Sounds like the supervisor needs to go to some professional development training. -
Scared to tell boss any ideas?
Lottie replied to short1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You didn't mention the type work you do and it's not really important but you do qualify for FMLA. Under the HIPPA act you don't have to tell your boss the reason you are off, you just have to get the proper documentation from you doctor and turn in to HR or the people that handles medical leaves. Your supervisor does not seem very professional. I am a manager also and would never intervene in anything that my employees do for health reasons. I know you don't want to cause confusion in the workplace but if she disresspect you, you might have to see your HR manager. I probably would do like you and just use the hand issue to do what you need to do. I wish you much success on your journey and CONGRATULATIONS for doing something for YOU. You deserve it. -
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I wish you much success on your journey. I am waiting to be band and so looking forward to it. Keep me posted on your progress. If you want to meet some really nice people that may have been band or waiting to be band, please log into LapBandTalk and meet some really supportive and inspirational individuals. I hope you have a wonderful day and I hope to hear from you soon.

Do you have asthma or something? I didn't have to do the pulmonary testing. I have not been band but going through the processes. Everything about the banding process and pre-op interest me. When do you think you'll be band? I wish you much success and CONGRATULATIONS on your journey.

Hi Hndy, I think you will like Dr. Pennington. You and I were suppose to attend this seminar together but they had a cancellation and I was able to go attend June 28th. Dr. Pennington was very informative. I really like him. I think you will too. I asked several questions and he answered them in a way I understood. The staff was with him and they were very nice also. You will get to know Margaret more because she will be handling all your insurance claims or self pay. NOt sure which you are doing but once you attend the seminar you will be ready to make your decision. I wish you much success.
