Not sure about all of this....
Lottie replied to Florida girl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wXz163c/ 1. click on someone's ticker - it will take you to the website to create yours. 2. click the box that says: "Create your own ticker" 3. click the "WEIGHT LOSS" or "EVENT" (your choice if you want to track the weight loss or count down to the surgery -- or count from the date you had surgery.) I am going to assume you clicked "WEIGHT LOSS" for the following steps. 4. click the ticker bar you wish to have as yours (there are 13 pages of designs to choose from - to see another page just click the page #) once you have decided - click "NEXT" 5. click the ticker slider you wish to have as yours (there are 7 pages of designs to chose from) once you decided - click "NEXT" 6. complete this page with your options - password; tracking by change of weight or showing actual weight and lbs lost; your target and starting weight; current weight and weight date; your height - click "NEXT" 7. highlight the code in the first box - starts with "[url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/..." copy it (right mouse click - copy) 8. goto your "EDIT SIGNATURE" on your lapbandtalk and paste it (right mouse click - paste) 9. preview signature -- then add spaces and additional content as you wish. I was band by Dr. Touliatos and he is fantastic. His staff was wonderful. I had no issues and was out of work 6 days. I ended up staying overnight. I was band on Tuesday, left 9:00 am Wednesday morning. My niece was having surgery at DCH in Tuscaloosa. My husband and I made it there before they took her down. I was there at the hospital with her until 9:00 that night. Honestly, I haven't stop going yet. Sue Bunnell is wonderful also. If you haven't met Sue you will. She is a jewel. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I wish you much success on your journey. -
During the 6 month approval time for insurance...
Lottie replied to mrucker's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I don't have Humana Insurance I had to have 6 consecutive months. Even if your doctor could not see you, maybe they'll have you come in and record your weight so you can present it to your insurance company. It's very frustrating but in the end, I am glad I took advantage of the 6 months because I took that time to learn as much about the lap band system as possible. I love my band. I would do it all over again if I had to. If you have to start over, it will be worth it. Hopefully you will not. I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama. I did everything they required and had no issues. I wish you much success during your journey. -
This is excellent advice. I always enjoy reading your post. I've printed this out and put on my desk and I will be putting it on my refrigerator. Thanks,

The first thing you need to make sure is that you are getting enough Protein, you can never ever loose without it. You have to eat enough (or drink) enough protein. You HAVE TO exercise, you have to whether you want to or not. Your body needs it to keep loosing. DO NOT drink with meals, it makes you hungrier faster. Get junk food out of the house, this is my big problem! IF it is there we eat it, so just let it go away! I've never heard that you shouldn't eat any carbs but I do watch my carb intake but I do limit myself. Write down everything you eat during the day for a week. Go to Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and record what you eat, check protein contents and track your exercise. If all these things check out you do need to see your doctor with your record of what you are eating because I have a friend that was band and had 5 fills before getting the proper restriction. You are right, this is too much money to not let this wonderful tool work for you. Just make sure you are not cheating your band. I've hit a plateau but after re-evaluating my diet and cutting out some of the goods I was eating, I am now losing again. I wish you well ....

You know, people can be so cruel. I feel your pain. I am right the opposite. I don't rely on people giving me positive feedback to feel good about myself. I don't say anything. I have a journal that I write in everyday and when I reach a personal goal I write it in the journal and experss my feelings that way. I have pictures of myself before I was band and pictures at present. I put them in my journal and celebrate my weight loss with ME. My husband, son and nieces are really proud of me and they always tell me that I look good and I thank them very much. This lady I work with has no idea I've been band, asked me how much weight I had loss. She asked me in front of several other people that probably had been discussing my weight loss. I looked at her and told her I really didn't know and kept on walking. I knew this lady did not have my interest at heart and I was not going to discuss my personal weight loss with her. One other time, another lady was sitting in the present of several people called my name and asked me to come there. I made a motion with my hand telling her to wait. I went in the office then got the receptionist to page her to the office. When she came in I asked her what did she want and she said, OH I don't want to say it in front of the reception. I asked what's the difference in saying it in front of the reception and the other 10 people she was sitting with. She said, I wanted to ask you what you were doing to lose weight. I said, eating less and exercising 5 days a week. I then said, you should try it, it works. She weighs 300 plus pounds her self. Well having said all this, I've shut both these ladies up and I know I am looking good and trust me, I wouldn' take ANYTHING for my band. Forget those donuts because they are not worth sabotaging the success you've had. Keep up the good work. Remember you are doing this for your health and for YOU. You do not need your mother in law's approval. I am proud of you. You will have a successful journey. That's what's important.

Seminar - not so excited now
Lottie replied to MargieM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you should attend a different seminar. I went to a seminar and felt that the doctor didn't have all his facts so I opt to attend a different seminar and I am gald I did. Some doctors really push gastric bypass but maybe it's because they have not performed as many lapband procedures. Visit a different seminar before making your final decision. I was band Oct 30, 2007 and I love my band. If I had it to do over I would. -
ins. coverage of the 6 mo. supervised diet
Lottie replied to karook54's topic in Insurance & Financing
Yes, just pay your co-pay each visit. Your doctor will log your height, then your weight each month for 6 months. I paid my 20.00 co-pay each time I went to the doctor. My insurance company required a written letter from my doctor saying that I had struggled with weight and tried different methods of losing weight over the years and he felt that the lapband would be a great tool to assist me in accomplishing my weight loss goal. No question is silly. If I can help with any of your questions please don't hesitate to message me. I wish you much success with your journey. -
When I called BC/BS of Alabama this is what they told me: Requirement: Medical Records from Primary Physician - 3 - yrs record showing weight and height Medical Supervised Diet 1 - attempt 6 - month consecutive months (Medical Supervised Diet) Need statement from primary physician stating that patient has struggled with weight for last 3 yrs and physician thinks this procedure would be a good tool in helping patient control weight and health. I was band Oct 30, 2007.

Questions for all that have been banded or are in the process
Lottie replied to 88Shelly88's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The insurance company could cover this procedure. It will depend on what your BMI is. If it's over 40 you could be a prime canidate. -
You look so nice. Congratulations.... I was band 10/30/2007. I've loss 31 lbs. I have a ways to go but still working at it.

GNC Protein Shake suggestions?
Lottie replied to MamaJava's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try Slim Fast - Low Carb (20 grams of protein) Taste pretty good also. There is a PRUE Protein candy bar and Wal-Mart back near the pharmacy area. 20 grams of Protein. Chewy chocolate Chip is my favorite but these bars comes in Peanut Butter, CHOCOLATE DELUXE and S'MORES. You might try mixing up your protein and trying something differently. I also used a liquid Protein, 42 grams of protein. 1-vial of Fruit Punch. You can purchase this on Buy Discount Vitamins, supplements, Low Carb and More at www.Vitacost.com or BODYTECH! - BodyTech.com These are just suggestions. I like each of these better than the shakes. I used the Chocolate unjury shakes and I got to a point that I had enough. I wish you well... during your journey. -
I wish you much success on your journey. Have you had your surgery? I was band on Oct 30th. I have not had a fill yet. I have not had any complications or pain at all. Everything went well. I am from Alabama. I was banded at Trinity Baptist Medical Center. My surgeon was fantastic. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. Follow your doctor's orders and I know everything will go well. Take Care, Lottie

6-months Of Nutrition Counseling??
Lottie replied to jillybeano's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Jilly, My insurance required 6 months supervised diet. I was so upset when I first found out. So instead of being angry, I decided to use this time to find out any and everything I needed about the lap band system. When I met with my surgeon, he was amazed that I was so knowledgable about the tool. I went to a support group meeting beause it was required. The RN (consultant) that lead the support group was fantastic. She had bariatric surgery also. The information she shared with the group and the group welcomed me like they knew me all alone. I felt right at home. I ended up attending another support meeting and meet again with sue a week before my surgery. After my surgery on Oct 30, 2007, the RN came in to visit my husband and me. She asked if I had walked. I had not at the time. She stressed to me to get the walking in. She went and got me a pop sicle. She took good care of me and I was up and walking 30 mins later. I stayed in the hospital overnight. I have not had a gas pain or any other pain since I left the hospital. I went back to work on Tuesday of this week. I feel so great. I am up and moving. I am a busy lady. One thing the consultant said is that some insurance companies require the 6 month monitoring is to see how you deal with restricitions. I said I was not going to try to lose any weight because if I could lose weight I would not need the band. Well that was a silly thought. I loss 38 lbs during the 6 months. I loss another 10 pounds during 2 week pre op. I've loss 9 pounds since my surgery. (total of 57 lbs.) What if I hadn't tried during the 6 mons? I feel so much better. Almost 60 lbs lighter. You've found one of the most supportive website here on lap band talk forum. You'll learn a lot from people here and they are geniuely concern. I read a book that really helped me make my mind up regarding the lap band. FIGHTING WEIGHT by Khalia Ali. (Muhammad Ali's daughter) If you like to read this will hold your interest. Please check it out. I wish you much success during your journey. If you have any questions about anything please don't hesitate to ask.
