  1. My hubby and I both got our sleeves the same day. A few weeks ago, we went out to eat. My hubby said I was just STARING at a group of normal-sized people eating and I didn't even notice. But I couldn't believe how much they were eating! Even the kids!!! I'm trying to keep myself from watching people now.

    Pain on the right side

I had pain on my right side for several days. I talked to my surgeon and he suggested taking a laxative since I hadn't gone in a few days. I did that, but the pain continued, so I went to the ER. After drinking A LOT of contrast and getting my CT, I was told my appendix and abdomen looked good. My surgeon thinks I may have strained a muscle in my abdominal wall. Good luck!

    Couples getting VSG?

My husband and I got sleeved on 4/12, I went first. It has been a bonding experience to do it together! We have been going through exactly the same things at the same time. I had a little postop issues, so he's progressed a little faster than me, but it's nice taking each step together. We don't have any small children in the house, so we asked my mom to come over to help us for the first few days. She was pretty bored, because we helped each other get around from the get go. As far as insurance, we did not have any issues getting our approvals. They came quickly and we were pleasantly surprised how easy it was. Good luck!

Anyone have WLS with their spouse?

Hi! My husband and I both had our sleeves the same day. It made preop dieting and postop adjustments easier. The only problems we've encountered are 1: men loose weigh so much faster than women. It's hard to watch him drop weight so fast. I actually gained 10lbs immediately postop and he was all slim! Luckily, things are evening out. 2: I'm running into some postop complications and have not been able to eat like he can, which is infuriating for me. We've argued because we're now going through 2 different postop experiences. Aside from that, going through this whole process together has made us closer. I'm lucky to be doing this with my best friend! Good luck to you and your husband!
  12. Hi, I read these threads pretty consistently and I see that everyone has their own experience. This is mine: postop, I seem to be having delayed gastric emptying that's causing me to eat and drink very little. I'm 3 wks postop and still cannot get in my water requirements nor my protein needed. I've talked to my surgeon about it, and he sent me to a GI dr. Today, he confirmed delayed emptying and says its probably due to continued swelling following sleeve and hiatal hernia repair. We plan to wait a few weeks to see if the swelling goes down on its own. If it doesn't, they will insert a balloon to open me up a bit. In the meantime, since I'm becoming dehydrated, I may need IV fluids. Very frustrating! Has anyone had issues like this??? Thanks!

    My postop issue

Judy, thank you for your prayers, I can use every one. I'll be praying that your surgery is free from any issues Baby, I've been on Reglan for a few days but so far, nothing. I haven't been the best at taking the med, though, so I'm trying to be more diligent. Thank you both for replying! It's good to know that this isn't too unusual.

    Eating

It will be a while before you're able to eat those things. I'm guessing at maybe 6 months postop. I'm 3 wks postop now and am barely eating any meats. It's takes time because of healing and swelling. Good luck!

    Tmi... Birth Control... After surgery

I have been on oral bc for 10+ years and sometimes forget. So last year, I decided to try to Nuvaring. I have huge fibroids and I told my gyn about them, but she wasn't worried. I had the ring in for 2 weeks and noticed it would slip and become very uncomfortable. I'd have to take it out and reinsert it. This happened about 3x. On the the 3rd time, I noticed that stuff didn't feel right, like extra tissue I hadn't noticed before. Well, the ring was so close to a fibroid that it caused it to grow and it was pushing down on my uterus, making it prolapse. I took it out and luckily, the prolapse fixed itself after a few months. Needless to say, I'll be sticking to orals from now on!

    Questions

At one time, I really enjoyed drinking beer. I mean I REALLY ENJOYED IT. It was a weekly, social thing. My life changed in the last few years and I don't do it much at all. Now, I got sleeved 4/12, and asked my dr about drinking alcohol. My birthday is next month and thought I might want a glass of wine. Per my dr, he said that was fine, but only wine. For me, beers are off limits because of the carbonation and empty calories. And I've seen first-hand someone trade food addiction for alcohol addiction, so I don't want to hit any hard liquors. Don't let alcohol questions keep you from making a decision that could really change your life in so any ways. If you have questions, go to seminar in your area to find out more. Good luck!
  20. My husband and I both had our sleeves on 4/12, so we are post op day #12. We both continue having loose stools. Since I had his bowels to compare to, it didn't startle me. We are increasing our solid intake per our doctor, but it hasn't resolved quite yet. I did have a couple of days where it stopped all together, but the doctor encouraged us to start a laxative ASAP if that happens. Good luck!

    HELP! Decline in vision

Hi, I hope your problem has resolved or you've had a convo with your doctor about it. But I was watching a video on YouTube about a person who's had the sleeve and started having vision problems. It turns out she had a vitamin D deficiency. I hope this helps. Good luck!

    Skin problem sitting

I agree with the suggestion to visit the dr. Could be nothing, but it could also be some sort of infection setting in. Good luck!
  25. I'm sorry that you're struggling with this. The point of the pre-op diet is usually to allow the liver to shrink and make it easier to maneuver during surgery. I think it's normal to have doubts, because I did just before surgery. But don't self-sabotage. Instead, call the Dr's office, ask if there is someone you can speak to regarding your anxiety. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
