Mirena Coil slow weight loss?
musiclover replied to musiclover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok thanks for your responses I googled the Mirena and only then discovered that many other women report that is caused weight gain, libido problems and acne. -
I am losing so slowly and some days I wonder if I'm doing it all wrong? I'm 5 months out and have lost 42lbs which is nowhere near as quick as a lot of you in this timescale. I am vegetarian. I try to stick to 800 cals per day but sometimes I creep over that. I was a slow loser pre-surgery due to PCOS and hyperthyroidism but I really hoped this would work. Don't get me wrong, I still think it will get more of my weight off but I'm beginning g to wonder if I'll actually get to goal weight. I still have around 70lbs to lose and I'm not too sure it's going to get me there. I am trying to follow all the rules but I'm worried.

Thank you all for your reassurance I am having a particularly low few days and I don't know why as I've been so happy lately feeling good about my weightloss but last few days I am crashing into a low place and I don't like it! I hope these feelings pass soon and I can start looking forward instead of waiting to fail again

Well done on losing 36lbs great job! I've just managed to crawl to 40 lost lol! We may be tilting our sleeve rather than rocking it but it's great to lose weight no matter how and lets face it it's still a lot faster than we could have done without surgery ! GO SLOW LOSERS!! -
Is there *really* a honeymoon period?
musiclover posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a slow loser. Always have been pre surgery due to hyperthyroidism, PCOS, Mirena coil etc. I lost over 100lbs 10 yrs ago by exercising like a crazy mad woman and dieting, needless to say I gained it all back hence sleeve surgery in May this year. I now have arthritic knees and one of them requires surgery so exercise now is truly difficult for me. I am starting to panic that if there really is only this window of opportunity or honeymoon phase to lose weight then I am going to lose too slowly and will miss my chance. I'm really worrying about this. I read your amazing success stories about losing 100lbs in 6 months etc and I am in awe and know this will not be me. Since surgery 4 months ago I have lost 40lbs. I had an entire stall for 5 weeks running and stall regularly. I have good restriction and eat very little but I averaging less than 2lbs a week loss. At this rate it's going to take me a very long time to lose the 70lbs I have left to lose. Without the honeymoon period I will be in trouble the further out this gets. I'm worried!! -
Is there *really* a honeymoon period?
musiclover replied to musiclover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chimera, thank you for your amazing response, we have a lot in common! I'm nearly 48 and had my surgery May 21st 2013, one year behind you to the day! I too suffer from arthritis of both knees and have been told I will need a double knee replacement at some point. Thankfully I only hobble about when my knee flares up, most days I seem completely normal. Your attitude is fantastic and I feel very much the same way. I'm not gonna win prizes for speed of loss but who cares if we all get to the finishing line! Thanks again.for your great advice. Fran x -

Wow thank you all so much for your insights.. I found them very helpful. In terms of exercise, I recently re-started with my Personal Trainer who has designed a marvellous programme for me to work around my knee and I'm burning quite a few calories doing that! I've also re-started walking and when my knee is not in painful mode, I am taking daily walks when I can for a 2 or 3 miles each time. Having lost 40lbs I'm already finding doing these walks easier than I did before, I'm not huffing and puffing quite so much! That's a great feeling! I like the term 'window of opportunity' too, and I was interested that it could be 18 months.. that gives me faith that I will have time to really lose the weight and keep it off in that time despite doing it at such a leisurely pace! I used to be a very big eater, large portions every meal and the feeling of fullness after 4 or 5 bites per meal is a revelation! I love it! When I am in a loosing phase, I feel confident that I will finally melt off this fat once and for all and get to a goal, and then when I stall I start to doubt that this will work, hence the re-assurance I'm seeking. It is gratefully received. thank you! -
Wow that's fantastic well done! I have arthritis in both knees, one is particularly painful and I need surgery on it. I opted for sleeve surgery due to the pain in my knee and mobility problems, I wasn't expecting these problems at 47 yrs of age especially as I had previously been very active but damaged it at a Rosemary Conley exercise class and haven't been able to exercise since I really hoping weight loss will help do you think it stopped the arthritis?

I have lost 38lbs since May 21st so I too am a lot slower than everyone else but try not to be downhearted we are still losing weight and we will still make it to goal but a little slower and hopefully time for our bodies to get used to the losses. It won't be such dramatic changes but each of us are different and although I do stress when I see how well everyone else is doing compared to me we can't really change how our bodies lose weight if we are following the guidelines which I am. -
I only take one multi vit per day but about 10o s after I take it I feel really sick for about an hour or so ita horrible why is that?

My enjoyment of food has totally gone
musiclover posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Needless to say I loved food but now at 14 weeks out I really can't find enjoyment in food and rarely find anything I either want or enjoy eating. My restriction is good but I often feel nauseous when eating apart from light crunchy things so I'm struggling to enjoy anything really and after 3 or 4 mouthfuls I'm done anyway. I'm on holiday with my mum at the moment and she keeps making pitying comments about poor old me but I don't feel bad it's what I signed up for as I was addicted to food and now I'm really not bothered. I do go into the kitchen and look around quite often but just dont fancy anything. Will this last do you think ? -

Like I said I'm over 3 months out now and the feeling of nausea has actually got worse at mealtimes I rarely sit down to a meal that I enjoy due to it and the few mouthfuls I have are just to make sure I can function rather than anything elae and enjoyment has left replaced by what I can tolerate. -

I do feel relieved as I'm just not interested in food now whereas I always thinking about food before and having large portions of everything and snacking a lot. Well those days are gone that's for sure! -
Hi I'm 14 weeks out today and loving my sleeve although I'm a slow loser down 40lbs but very happy as there is NO way I could have lost like this before. My issue is that for the past few days since I dropped a bit more weight I've been getting the same kind of pains you get when you have a period. Back ache and that dragging feeling on your stomach? The thing is I'm 47 and have had the Mirena coil in for 3 cycles now so I don't get periods. What is going on? Any suggestions? Thanks
-
It's not constant and today I didn't experience it at all so maybe it was just a blip? It really did feel like my old period symptoms though.. I used to suffer so badly with periods due to PCOS which is why I had to have the Mirena fitted after a constant period for about 5 months and once I have the Mirena fitted no more period and that was over 10 yrs ago. It will be very surprising to have them return I kinda hope not especially now when I was gearing up for the menopause! I really hope its note gallbladder though.

Extremely Long Stall
musiclover replied to bussy37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oops hadn't finished I meant to say that 2 weeks of my month stall was because I was on holiday and struggled with my eatin while out the county but as soon as I got home I did find I could control things more so the weightloss started again. I am definitely someone who can stall then lose constantly it's not ideal but it's how my body wants to do it. -

Great thread! I am a slow loser. I'm 13 weeks post op today and I've lost 35lbs. It's slow and I stall a lot. I have good restriction, my portion sizes are tiny and I've all but given up drinking alcohol which is a big deal for me. I could be disappointed with my weight loss but that would be stupid ad for the first time in my life I KNOW this is going to work and I will be slim! There are days when I fret and worry that I will be the one who fails or my next appointment with my surgeon will stress me out as I'm not on target but it's working, I am losing weight and I can see it now and feel so excited about the future! I do pleased that I don't obsess about food any more or over eat any more this is a freedom from an addiction that has ruined my life and for that we should be grateful. x -
So I'm 2 months out and I've lost 29lbs a lot of that weight was early out and now I'm losing quite slowly and have many weeks where I don't loose at all. My restriction is good and I simply can't eat too much so it is frustrating how my body is really clinging on to the fat as much as possible. I am unable to hit the gym as I have a knee problem (which will require surgery) so I'm disadvantaged that I cannot exercise as I used to. Others have re-assured me that the weight will still come off but this might explain my slow losses but it is incredibly frustrating that I am eating maybe 80% less than I used to yet my losses are so slow. The good news is that my thyroid medication for hyperthyroidism has been halved. Anyone else finding this a slow slog?

It's got to the point that when I see the May sleevers progress thread I can't read it any more as I'm so far behind most other people

I'm not doing so well despite good restriction Ive only lost 29.5 lbs since surgery on May 21st. It's difficult to see how michigan slower I'm losing compared to most of you. I can't really exercise due to knee problems but I'm crawling along anyway. -
5 days post op-afraid it didnt work! Feeling TOO normal.
musiclover replied to megansmommy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is just NOT true please don't say this kind of stuff! My doctor was more than happy for me to be on puréed foods including yoghurt from the start. One spoonful of yoghurt will not cause a leak. -

I feel your pain I am approaching 4 weeks post op and I lost 22lbs but haven't lost anything for nearly 2 weeks!! What's going on? I am eating no more than 600-700 cals per day but it's not happening. It is very frustrating and worrying to have gone through all this, eat such tiny portions and then see the scales stay the same day after day. I really hope I are them move soon, I saw my surgeon on Friday and he says he's happy wig my progress but should aim for a stone a month, that's 14lb a month! If this stall carries on I will never get there. Here's hoping I get some results soon.
