I'm 47 and never worn jeans... Well not as an adult anyway. I've lost some weight since surgery 6 months ago but I still need to lose a fair bit more. I go into clothes shops and automatically look at dresses as I feel most comfortable in leggings Dresses and boots don't even take a second glance at the jeans. I'm now in a uk size 16 which I think is a US size 12? But still don't feel ready to try jeans they will be too tight, my legs and thighs will be enormous and I won't be able to breathe in them. I just can't imagine even trying them on as it will be a body failure I reckon.

Depression Setting In.
musiclover replied to chibabyy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am right there with you! I'm 6 months out and only 55lbs down and in the last 3 weeks I have lost nothing at all. It's very scary as we automatically assume we are going to fail at this like we have every other attempt lose weight. But we can do it even if it takes us another whole year. Let's hang in there x -
My mum lost my dad 4 years ago and had been adapting to living alone and finding it very hard actually. She used to be very careful about her flood intake and was always watching her weight now she lives for food and has gradually been gaining weight. She's only 5'1 so even putting on the 30 or so pounds she's gained really shows and now she breathes really heavy going upstairs and her general health has declined. She's now 73 and has developed asthma and lately if she goes on any long walks she becomes bowel incontinent! I'm so worried about her. She's watched me lose weight and cut down my food intake since my surgery and now she jokes that she's picked up where I left off. She's now paying large health bills to have her incontinence investigated as its horrible for her but I wonder if her weight gain might have something to do with it? I'm also now paying to have her house cleaned as she's stopped doing it and with a little dog it needs to be done! It's so sad. I can't suggest this surgery to her she often says she lives for her meals now what a sad situation.

Been married a long time 29 yrs and mother in law came over yesterday to visit and when my husband went out the room to chat to his dad, she had a whole lot of negative stuff to say about my surgery even though I'm 6 months out. She said she thinks people who lost a lot of weight look really old and cited a couple of examples here in the uk both of whom are on their 70's and I'm still in my 40's. She went in and on that she's worried about me and how I won't be able to stop losing weight and that I will look horrible skinny and old.. not forgetting the old she really laboured that point knowing that looking good is important to me. Jeez this woman is such a cow! I'm sure she preferred me when I was big and fat!

Oh god I cannot believe this! I went for dinner tonight to a Thai place with hubby and another couple who don't know about my surgery (I'm 6 months out) after a couple of mouthfuls of a rich starter and a few mouthfuls of the main and a watered down glass of wine I started to feel sick and I mean really sick. Then everything went dizzy and an urgent need for the toilet and then I actually passed out AT THE TABLE!! I came round pretty quick but was swearing g profusely and had chest pains and thought I was a gonner right there and then. I was taken hime immediately and felt a lot better after getting some air and straight to bed but this is by far the worst dumping attack I've ever had (only had 1 before after eating some sweets at the cinema) and this was 100 times worse. There must have been a hell of a lot of sugar in that Thai food ~ I've had meals out with the odd glass of wine before and this has never happened. I cannot begin to describe my embarrassment and now dread this happening again. Nightmare :(

May sleevers results so far!
musiclover replied to lexi6510's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved May 21st and finally made it to 4 stone off (British) which is 56lbs. Not amazing compared to most of you but I'll take it I'm starting to experience dumping which is the worst thing ever and feels like you are dying even from a few mouthfuls of Thai food! So that's another thing I can't eat. I've still got 50lbs to lose so I'll crawl along and hope I get there. -

musiclover replied to musiclover's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So do you all think it was definitely a case of dumping? I swear I was having a heart attack at one point I went white, had chest pains and sweat was pouring off me. Scarily similar symptoms! So how will I know the difference? This could be life and death if that doesn't sound over dramatic?? -

I Lived Through This Surgery, My Sister Didn't.
musiclover replied to LyndseyD's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Very good advice, I wasn't asked to do any kind of swallow test (in the UK) I woke up was regularly checked on, given pain meds and sent home the after 48 hrs. I have had zero problems. Is this test really necessary and if it is why don't all surgeons do it? I find some of these completely different practises I hear about by different surgeons most disconcerting? -

Whats with the hiccups after i eat ?
musiclover replied to OHHLALA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exactly the same as me! I don't get them while eating but I get a small bout about half an hour later sometimes if I'm having a long awaited cup of tea! -
I'm sure we all have a jealous friend well I've had one for 20 years! She's jealous of everything I do but it feels like my husband has a blind spot about it as he likes her grrr! She's a glamorous woman with amazing hair (she's a hair stylist) immaculate make up but she's pretty heavy and since quitting smoking she's getting bigger. She is now bigger than my starting weight I would guess. She is one of the people I did NOT want to know I was getting surgery as my business would have been all over town she's an incurable gossip and everyone would have found out whether I wanted them to know or not. So I've kept it a secret and as I'm losing slowly my gradual loss isn't too shocking. I lost weight on my own 10 years ago over 100lbs and when she saw my changing she joined Light Life. It took me 3 years to lose the weight as I'm a slow loser (still am despite surgery) and I exercised constantly and went to weight watchers. She joined Lighter Life and got to goal within 6 mths! She ended up lighter than me but it didn't last for either of us unfortunately and over the years we both regained most of it. So now I'm changing again not once has she given me a compliment she completely refuses to discuss it and I understand how that feels but last night I dreamt that I saw her and she was a size 0 and lost her weight overnight. It's not a very healthy relationship! Last time she lost weight she was always getting on my scale at my house to show me her weight and telling me her jean size and all the men that had hit on her that week! It got more than a little annoying. I haven't done that now the tables are turned I've just been quietly getting in with it. I'm not at a low enough weight yet to get to that stage anyhow but it's not kind to do that when someone close to you is struggling with their weight.

May slow losers - vent here!
musiclover replied to k8ee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree it's very hard to be patient when we are losing so slowly or in long stalls it doesn't seem fair when so many others are losing incredible amounts so quickly. If it helps my surgeon saw me yesterday and said my loss to date is slower than he would like but not at the point where he is concerned and has suggested I increase my exercise and really work on good choices. Its a little annoying as I'm eating 800 cals per day most days so not sure how much healthier I can be without starving myself! Its not like I'm eating too much here. -

I'm still plodding along at a snails pace but it IS coming off but not every week. I appear to stay the same for 2 or 3 weeks at a time then have a couple of loss weeks and repeat so it's more of a stepped loss pattern for me. It can be frustrating when you stay the same for weeks at a time when you are only eating 700 or 800 cals per day but it is the way my body wants to do it and I have to try and be patient. I had surgery in May and here we are at the end of Oct and I've lost 50lbs. I am seeing the difference now but I can also see how much I still have to lose and I am hoping this magic window of opportunity stays open as long as possible for me as I'm clearly not going to be at goal quickly. I have another 50lbs to lose and at this rate it will take me around another 5 or 6 months at least. That's fine as long as it keeps going down as I'm terrified it's going to stop. -
It has taken me a long time as was sleeved in May but today I have finally lost 50lbs in total! Slow but its coming off and although I won't win any prizes for getting there fast I just want to lose it sill have another 60+ to go but not too bad on the loose skin so that's at least something.

May slow losers - vent here!
musiclover replied to k8ee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on May 21st an have lost 47lbs including pre-op weight loss of 9lbs. I feel very much like a slow loser and I have long stalls then lose a bit and repeat. I do not lose every week and it can be disheartening when you read the amazing headlines '2 months out and lost 70lbs'!! I mean that's amazing and it makes me feel useless as I'm following all the rules eating around 800 cals a day but its not falling off me. However I am grateful for the loss I have achieved and hope to keep losing but at a much slower pace than most. Let's hang in there and help and support each other it's good to know we are not along in our slower journey! -
I'm so down right now I have not only been losing very slowly but now I've stopped losing altogether. I was sleeved on 21st May and have lost 45lbs but have not lost anything for nearly a month. I'm eating between 800 and 900 cals a day. I could drink more Water and exercise more if I didn't have a horrible knee injury. Otherwise I have a thyroid problem that is beig reviewed as my meds are not doing what they should. Can anyone offer any advise as this is a big thing to go through for it not to work.

Not loosing weight :(
musiclover replied to musiclover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When my knee isn't swollen and I can walk without pain I always walk as much as possible but my knee is the reason I needed this surgery as I realised I couldn't rely on exercise like I have done in the past to lose weight. I was assured by my surgeon that I should still lose being on a VCLD (very low calorie diet) and I seem to be stuck and losing much more slowly than most. My carb intake is tiny compared to the old me. So this is depressing I'm not getting anywhere yet eat small amounts. I could drink more Water I mostly drink hot tea , as for Protein I'm vegetarian so get it from cheese milk tofu and quorn plus of course veggies. Frustration is setting in I really need this to work I was crawling along and now at a standstill. -
Mirena Coil slow weight loss?
musiclover replied to musiclover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's very interesting I have already been told I have insulin resistance some years ago do I have always struggled to lose weight I have always had to work very hard to get weight off and post sleeve that appears to still be the case. Obviously every woman is different but for me it has stopped my periods which is good but the weight, spots and libido issues all definitely appear to be closely linked to the Mirena reading the experiences of many many other women who report similar problems. -
My Mirena coil is overdue for replacement and I've just had a letter suggesting I see the doctor to either have it replaced or removed. I've had a Mirena in for 10 yrs now and I'm 47 I had it fitted to stop heavy periods and it's worked. It has also seen me gain a lot of weight hence my sleeve surgery in May and in that time I've only lost 42lbs which is very slow weightloss in 4 months. If I have it removed I might lose weight quicker but I'm also suffering quite recently with bad facial acne and I've heard that can be due to the Mirena coil although I wasn't sure if it was because of surgery and change of diet whichever it is I've had enough of it at my age! Really not sure what to do as I would love to lose weight more quickly than I appear to be doing despite eating only 800 cals per day but u dot relish the return or heavy periods although I may be moving into menopause who knows? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I have to make a decision very soon. Thank you.
