  1. Ok I thought I knew all this and was prepared..... 1week out today. Transitioned from clear to full liquids yesterday. NUT says 3 meals and 2 snacks. 2-4 oz of protein drink at a time . Well that is only 20 oz. I'm doing ready to drink muscle milk, that's only about 15-30 gm of protein for the day, I know I need more and I'm having no trouble drinking. What am I missing?
  2. Have they rechecked you for a leak? looking at my discharge papers. "Cardinal symptoms of a leak" 1) heart rate above 120 2)uncontrolled abdominal pain 3)sense of dread or doom 4) shortness of breath or increased oxygen need 5) fever 6) nausea, abdominal distention Hope it's nothing and you feel better soon
  3. Ok surgery on Monday, but starting yesterday when I walk or move around my right pelvic bone HURTS. Anyone have an idea why???
  4. Laying here in the hospital trying to sip my oz of Water. My surgery lasted like 4 1/2 hours. Turns out my prolapse had adhered itself to my liver, so they had to remove scar tissue from my liver Andy stomach. Just got my catheter out, o2 turned down to one, now if I could just stay awake b Pain is still pretty bad when I try to get out of bed. The pain is just on by side. The big incision they take everything out of that corresponds with the liver repair.
  5. I'm in Oregon and having my revision to sleeve at 12:30 tomorrow (Monday). A little nervous just took half a Xanax. Frustrated I didn't get more done. . Good luck everyone!!!!

So I'm confused... Are you still eating and this is all you are drinking? Or is this all the calories you are consuming everyday?

    FEP BLUE......

Just need to vent, and open to any help of anyone with any knowledge. My story so far, ended up in the ER in November with a bad lapband slip (3rd slip) Doctor wanted to do an emergency removal, begged her to wait until after a family wedding in December (which we ended up not going to since I was so worried about the band, and flying). During my EGD it was discovered I have a bad prolapse of the band. food is getting caught in that pouch hanging down the back, pressing on the band and causing a lot of pain and stuck food. Checked with insurance (FEP Blue (Regence in Oregon)) about removal and revision. Was told 3 mos nut, PCP, psy, sleep etc which I did. Removal approved, revision denied; no 3 mos supervised diet. Resubmitted 3 mos NUT, and started supervised diet w/surgeon. Surgeon did peer to peer with medical director, who said to send chart notes and finish 3 mos supervised diet. Which we did. NUT has been faxed at least 3 times (as well as in the original application), dr's chart notes sent the morning after peer to peer, completed chart notes faxed and mailed after 3 mos supervised diet two weeks ago. I called thursday and they old me they hadnt recieved anything, office faxed AGAIN. I called again this morning and was told they had recieved the notes after the peer to peer, but they needed to be MAILED not faxed! And not to the address in Portland that the office had sent them to, but a post office box in Seattle!!!! This morning I ran to the surgeons office, got the stack of stuff from the scheduler and overnighted them to their post office box, since they wouldnt give me a physical address..... Ahhhhh surgery is scheduled for monday, I don't think I am going to make it! Any suggestions? Fep is usually so easy, I don't understand why this is so hard. Everyone and everthing is arranged. I have an autistic 16 year old, and my 84 year mother in law that lives with us. MIL broke her foot in january and is still on home health, husband can't take any other time off until the end of May. Prayers would be welcomed! Thanks for letting me vent! Laurie

    FEP BLUE......

Thanks everyone for the prayers and suggestions. I was going to give them until 3:00 today but no need. IM APPROVED!!!! Not sure if it was prayers, the overnight to the correct address, the nasty gram the coordinator sent, or some magic fairy here, but it's done!!! Ok now I'm scared instead of mad. And I have some much to do!!!! I'm trying to write down passwords and everything else. Because you know Murphy's law if I do it all there will be no complications. But if I don't ill wake up in 6 weeks with the house in foreclosure because the husband didn't know to pay the mortgage.
  11. So my hair has thinned on top for years. Periodically I have used rogaine in the past with fairly good results. Has anyone started it after surgery and did it help with the hair loss?
  12. From what I've been told another reason for the pre-op diet, besides liver shrinkage is so you don't go off on a binge and gain a whole bunch of weight that you will have to get rid of later. I know it's hard. Been there done that, easier to do this time around. Another plus of having the band first. Ive done A LOT of 3 day liquids. You can do it!!! Just remember the majority of your weight is lost Pre-op and the first 6 months after. Can you tell yourself this is only for the 6 1/2 months and you will reevaluate your eating at that time. Small victories! We can do anything for 6 months. It's all about the head games. At least in the beginning. Laurie

    FEP BLUE......

Oh my goodness 102 not sure I could manage another18 years with my MIL. I had a dream a couple of years ago, I was living in an assisted living facility with my daughter on one side and MIL on the other. I told hubby he must have died to escape. you have to laugh or cry. I choose to laugh. Thanks for the prayers everyone. I also totally agree that the timing needs to be right, but I also know the band is causing more damage the longer it's in.

    FEP BLUE......

I would agree with you about it being the surgeons office, but when I call, I get put on hold while the person at BC checks. I am getting different info everytime I call BC. Sent from person to person and given different info.
  17. One way to be able to see the difference is to take your picture in the same exact spot each time. Even if you have to put a tape mark on the floor for you and your picture taker. Make sure you are framing your body in a doorway, something that will give you a reference point. That way you can see yourself shrinking. Since we don't get new bodies (except after plastics of course) we still have the general body type, so we will always have the same bumps and bulges, just smaller ones! I listened to a wonderful segment on NPR a few months back where it talked about phantom limb pain and how they used mirrors to retrain the brain to know that there was no longer a limb there. It made me think about us and our bodies, if the brain can feel an itch on an arm that is not there, why do we expect it to grasp right away that we have lost 50 lbs.... Give your brain some time to catch up with your body.

    Protein Shots

I like them mixed in crystal light. I have used them that way a lot in the past that way I'm sipping Protein through out the day. Laurie

    High protein soups

Spllit pea soup is another option. Not low carb, but naturally high in Protein. I just put Water or chicken stock in the crockpot, add peas, chopped celery, shredded carrots, salt, pepper and garlic. cook for 8-12 hours, you can use an emersion blender to blend up the veggies if any chunks remain. My nut said it was ok for liquid as long as I thinned it way down. It was the thing that saved me with my lapband, I think I was on liquids for 4-6 weeks, including before and after and I was soooo sick of sweet. Laurie
  20. My Nut said rule of thumb is no more than 10 cal per gm of carb. Remember you can adjust your portion size up or down.
