Am I crazy?
newoutlookonlife replied to wonder_mommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did one week full fluids and one week clear fluids pre op. I thought it was going to be horrible but I planned out my fluid intake for the entire week and had portions ready to go. I had three protein shakes a day. The one I used has 24 grams of protein, 2 carbs and 110 calls I believe. I had all my broths ready to go. I are the shakes at meal times and the broth and hello in between. What I can tell you is by the 14th day I was not hungry but extremely tired of drinking, even just seeing a glass made me gag. Thankfully it's a relatively short duration so just get through one day at a time and trying planning everything the night ahead. Good luck -
baby bullet or something like it?
newoutlookonlife replied to Museum-Mama's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I have a bullet and a blender and I preferred to use my blender. The main reason is I too bought the 1/2 cup glad containers. I made all my meals for the entire week at once because that's my way of keeping the good stuff regularity a ail able. Otherwise if I just made one meal at a time I tended to make less healthier choices. That's just me though but it does work really well good luck! -
How to explain why i need this
newoutlookonlife replied to mistysj's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's hard to explain to those who have never battled with their weight why this is so important. I had a few people say similar things. My answer is if it was that easy don't you think everyone would be thin? I was told you just need to exercise more etc. prior to my sleeve it was difficult for me to exercise because of my weight a d my joint problems. It was extremely difficult. Now 3.5 months out I love my treadmill!! I have lost 67lbs in 4 months, I have formed a lot of great new habits, it still requires a lot of work because your sleeve is only a tool but once the weight starts coming off its really motivating and you feel so fantastic that I actually crave exercise for the first time in my life. I also like to look at it like this. Obesity is a disease and just like any other disease why wouldn't you look for treatment options. If you had high Blood pressure and someone told you not to take anti hypertensive medication but to just decrease your salt intake that would be frowned upon. If you were diabetic and someone told you not to take insulin just to eat less sugar that wouldn't be acceptable either. So why is it that with obesity we are treated like we are lazy and should just eat less and exercise more? People who have never had a weight problem have a hard time grasping these concepts. I am a nurse, I have struggled with obesity all my life, I knew the risks of the surgery as well as the long term risks of obesity on my health. I choose a new healthier me and I don't regret it for one minute. My husband had the same questions, I told him the same thing as I just stated here. He still quietly disagreed but just yesterday he said to me I can't believe the difference and he was sorry he wasn't more supportive I the beginning. I choose to keep my surgery to myself prior to going, I told my parents, in laws and sister and that's it. I didn't want to have everyone's negative comments talk me out of it because i had postponed the surgery once already die yo letting some pretty negative comments get me down. Now it's been over 3 months and I am not afraid to tell anyone what I have done. I look at is as a positive life style change and not a diet for the rest if my life. Without the sleeve I would not be where I am today good luck with your journey. I say follow your heart and choose what you feel is In your best interest. -
All of my December sleevers...
newoutlookonlife replied to blkdiamond377's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on 10/12/12, I am down 67 pounds since starting my pre op diet. I have been in a two week stall though and am trying not to get too discouraged. I am sticking with it hoping that the scale will move again soon -
Having a hard time...
newoutlookonlife replied to popsicle_20721's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do this.. It is never too late to start over! I had a hard time getting all my fluids in but I found that roobis tea was a great option for me. I drink at least 4 cups a day and now I am able to get my 8 glasses a day in. I find that when I am getting all of my Fluid that I do not get hungry much at all. The worst time of day for me is around 3:30 that's when I actually start feeling hungry and so I save my Protein drink for that time of the day and I have found it really works. Do you track your food intake? If not I would start tracking every day. You may be surprised at what you are actually consuming. I found that my fitness pal app works really well. I also attend support groups through the company I got my surgery with once a month and I find that very beneficial. That and I am browsing the sleeve forums on a regular basis for encouragement and support. I too am an emotional eater, always have been. The only thing that works for me is to not keep the junk food in my house. That way when I am angry or sad I can't eat it and that method has been working really well. I recently discovered audio books that are free from our public library system through an app. So now during my down time I listen to books and that seems to occupy my head hunger as well. I have only vomited a few times and for me I either ate too fast, didn't chew well enough, or I ate too much. Make sure you take small bites, chew well and stop before you start feeling any pain. Good luck:) -
Will you lose weight even if you've failed at every diet known to man?
newoutlookonlife replied to extracat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will loose weight, how much will depend on how you use your tool. I know a few people who didn't follow anything still lost between 50 and 70 lbs and were happy with that at the time. Now they complain often that they wish they had lost more. I also know many who followed the guidelines and maximized the use of their tool. They have lost 100 plus pounds and are doing fantastic!! I think that as long as you remember that this is a tool and you still need support on the lifestyle change of changing your eating habits, emotional eating etc. I track my food everyday, I have had days where I have eaten a little poorer than I would have liked but I just pick myself up and get back on track. I attend support group once a month and best of all i am loving life again. It is definitely not an easy fix, it is a lot of work but well worth the pay off -
no longer morbidly obese
newoutlookonlife replied to skinnygirlinside's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations! There will be many more celebrations to ome -
It's only one day.. You have the tool to get yourself back on track. Sake it off and start again fresh tomorrow. I too ate more carbs and sugar than usual today. But pre sleeve I would have ate a few thousand calories where as today I didn't even break a thousand. Keep tracking your intake' , get your fluids in and forgive yourself for today

4 weeks post op no weight list in a week
newoutlookonlife replied to staceysassygal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit a stall around the same time. The scale will move again! What I found helpful during stalls was to take my measurements. Tyler scale may not be moving but believe me your measurements will still be shrinking I found that a nice motivator to get me through the stall. -
Does swallowing get easier?
newoutlookonlife replied to ktmac26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am three and a half months out and it does get better. Like the previous posters stated remember to take small bites. The hardest part for me was chewing really well and eating slowly but it will get better. -
I cannot believe what I'm doing...don't I get it?
newoutlookonlife replied to AdiosPlusSizes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think your doing the right thing by coming on here and seeking out support. Dont beat your self up too badly. it is hard to change life long habits. Right now what you need to remember is that you don't want to increase your chances for a leak in your incision so for safety reasons you really want too stick to the list op diet that your dr has you on. Make sure you are getting in all your fluids, I found that helped curb the any hunger as well as find things to preoccupy your mind. I started listening to audio books in my spare time and it helped curb the head hunger. -
I received my sleeve 3and a half months ago, My journey thus far has been uneventful. The past two months thought I have noticed that every 2-3 weeks I have an episode of abdominal cramping with many many bowel movements ending in loose bowel movements it has also been accompanied by vomiting. It usually lasts 2-3 hours and I can't stray that far from the bathroom. The last three times it occurred it was always in the morning. I can not link it with a certain food or any other type of trigger. Since my sleeve I do not have regular bowel movements at all. I am wondering if this is some sort of delayed dumping syndrome? This morning it started before I even had breakfast so there was nothing in my stomach. I am wondering if I took a GI stimulant once or twice a week to remain more regular if this wouldn't happen anymore. It is almost as if the colon waits till it become completely full and then purges it all in a few hours. Has anyone Else had this experience? If so did you find anything that helped?
