It didn't hit me till around the three month mark. I get in all my protein and take biotin and I am still loosing my hair. I was told to expect to loose it for 6-8 weeks so I am hopefully I only have two weeks left. I don't loose a ton at once, mostly with hair washing and then a hand full of strands here and there. I notice that my hair is thinner but not patchy or anything like.

TMI: is throwing up different on the sleeve?
newoutlookonlife replied to OnlyDownFromHere's topic in Food and Nutrition
I have vomited a few times.. All due to eating too fast or food that was too dry to early out. It is a totally different feeling for me than pre sleeve. As above I feel it in my chest/throat. I then get a feeling of excess saliva build up and when I do vomit it isn't as forceful as in the past, there isn't the heaving like in the past, and it did take a few times to get it all up in small amounts. It wasn't at all painful and it felt different (not worse just different). I think because there isn't a lot of excess liquid due to not drinking and eating that makes a difference in the feeling as well. Sorry I hope that wasn't too much info. I was terrified to vomit post sleeve but it wasn't that bad at all. Best of luck -

Last week my friends mom, who I have known for a long time, didn't recognize me. I haven't seen her for 6 months or so. She even came up to ask me who I was. That was the best feeling EVER!! She was pretty embarrassed once I told her my name -
Anyone w/ a BMI under 40 and self pay?
newoutlookonlife replied to Linkin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My BMI was 39, I was self pay and went to Mexico, paid over 12,000. I felt very guilty for spending that kind of money on my self. In fact I postponed the surgery by a year because of the guilt. Nw I don't regret it for one minute. We have saved money on groceries, since I eat cleaner it was huge savings on the junk food that we no longer purchase. Smaller sized closes are also way cheaper!! Now I don't feel guilty at all! I needed this for my health and my family. In 4 months I have lost 76.5 pounds and now my BMI is 30. It is by no means easy, and lots of days I use the cost of the surgery to help drive me to eat better and excessive more. -
I was paying 70 dollars per bag which would last one month if I had one shake a day through visalus. Now I buy north cost natural unflavoured protein and its 30 dollars for one month supply and has 25 grams of protein per scoop. The only problem for me is I don't like the north coast natural brand with water so I drink it with milk and I feel. Like I am kind of wasting my carbs on the milk so I have been searching for another brand myself. You can get the even cheaper if you can stomach brands like isofemme etc. I was in GNC yesterday and the sales guy told me that promasil was a top seller and had zero carbs. It's 50 dollars for the container though but it is a pretty big container. I was going to try and find a sample of it first even though you have 30 days to return it if you don't like it. I have a hard time finding one that I don't get sick of quickly.

I used to drink visalus twice a day prior to the sleeve with no weight loss results. I did like the taste of them though. When i compare it to what I drink now the major difference is the amount of protein. The calories and carbs are okay but the protein really isn't that high. Even though the proton I drink now doesn't taste as good I find it more filling and able to sustain me longer so I am sticking to it. Price comparison it's terribly expensive for the amount of protein you do get per shake. Just some food for thought.

I have been tracking every day using MFP. I have increased my exercise levels a lot and I am not sure how to or if I should even be adjusting my intake at all according to my work outs. HELP!! Today After inputting everything into MFP I consumed 808 calories and I burned 798. Can anyone give me any suggestions or pointers as to what the proper thing to do here is. Do you still stick to the original 800 consumed and ignore the calories burned? Do you need some extra fuel either pre or post exercise and if so what kind and amount? I am 4 months post sleeve. Thanks

After tossing the idea back and forth for the last few years I finally got my sleeve in December 2012. I went thought weight loss forever a Canadian company out of Saskatoon and the surgery was preformed by dr. Pompa at LIMARP in TJ, Mexico. I had a fabulous experience, no post op complications, and at almost 4 months out I have lost 67 lbs and over 40 inches. I don't remember the last time I felt this great!! My weight loss has slowed down and psychologically I am struggling with that a bit, but I am trying to take things one day at a time and be patient I just found this forum so I look forward to sharingy experiences as well as reading about your experiences. I find that support is an extremely powerful tool that I try and use on a daily basis.

Before and After Stories?
newoutlookonlife replied to taurabird's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In all honestly pre op I was a lump. Even doing something as little as routine house work was depressing because then my knees, feet and back would hurt for days. Now I am sooo excited!! even my husband commented the other day that he never expected to see the physical changes he has been seeing. I clean my house all the time now and it doesn't take half the time to do it. I have crazy amounts of energy that i never had and I had sitting still unlike before. Yesterday i went to the gym in the morning and did 30 minutes of circuit followed by a walk/jog for 40 minutes in the evening and I felt fantastic!! I usually ensure that I get at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day. No more back, knee or foot pain!! no more sitting on the couch for hours on end.. no more dirty house LOVIN THE NEW ME!! -

So far I have had an amazing journey. I am down 75lbs and I have never been so active in my life. N complications to date. I did take a PPI for the heart burn and I have 3 in my RX and then I will stop to see if I still require it or not. I find the psychological side of getting the sleeve the most difficult but I am slowly working my way through it. Best of luck in your journey -

Help! Calories consumed vs calories burned.
newoutlookonlife replied to newoutlookonlife's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Thanks for all the input!! I was using MFP to track the calories burned, I knew it wouldn't be totally accurate but at least I have an idea. I usually shoot for the lower range of numbers when choosing my exercise. I will have to look into a heart rate tracker. I have seen fit it n here quite a bit, does it work well? Are there another's you guys can suggest? I just wanted to make sure I wasn't totally screwing things up. My weight loss has slowed but it has been amazing! That is why I have bumped up my exercise, that and now I can tolerate it without wanting to lay down and die I have always kept my carbs around 40 a day. With increasing my exercise I thought maybe it wouldn't hurt to to add an additional 20 carbs. For example yesterday morning I had a shake prior to my work out at 9 am. I used a full glass of 1% milk, one scoop of Protein powder and one Greek yogurt which equalled 52 grams of protein, 35 carbs and 380 calories. By the end of the day I was at a total of 60 carbs but did not go over my 800 cal goal. I don't want to make a habit of it if its not a good thing to start but by supper I felt like I needed more carbs. I have tried to use only a half a glass of milk or just straight Water with my protein mix but then I find it really unappealing and don't end up drinking it. I will figure this all out at some point. -
Toradol after surgery
newoutlookonlife replied to Girl on the Blvd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I received iv and oral Tiraspol post op. no complications from the medication and controlled discomfort well. Only took the oral for 4 days post op. biggest concern I read about was getting iv push toradol. When infused at a rapid rate it can have some nasty side effects. Otherwise it's effects can be much like Advil on the gut but I never experiences that. Best if luck. -
Is this really healthy?
newoutlookonlife replied to StefanieT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear you had some bumps in the road.. It does get better! As you will find on here everyone has had different post op guides to follow. I was not allowed any protein for two weeks post op. just clear fluids, I didn't focus on calories but rather just ensuring I was able to get my water. i did not encounter any health concerns following these guidelines. just keep sipping and it will all fall into place. If you need more reassurance I would give your nut a call. Best of luck and it does get better -
In need of some positive reinforcement
newoutlookonlife posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello, I am here to out myself. I have had an amazing journey so far but for the last two weeks I have slipped into an old bad habit. A little history.. I am 4 months post sleeve,I am down 72 lbs which is amazing!! I feel like a million bucks! Three weeks ago I hit a stall. I was okay for the first week but then the second week I was getting discouraged and it was Easter...so I had a few chocolate eggs. let me just say that I know my loss has been huge in that short period of time and I am by no means complaining but I never expected the psychological impact a stall would have on me.. I haven't gone one day since without eating at least one chocolate egg. My worst day would have been 6 mini chocolate eggs which is nothing compared to what I used to eat but still it is leading me down that slippery slope that I don't want to go down. I am very thankful for my sleeve, I have awesome support, I have a therapist and support group which I have been using. i have an support group on monday and a therapist appointment in to weeks so i am looking for some extra support in the mean time. I just can't seem to make it one day without one damn chocolate... I track my intake everyday and even with the chocolate I haven't been over 800 cals, 50 carbs or 15 grams of fat so my twisted mind is telling me its okay...even though I know that's the old tricks coming out.. Really what I am looking for is some positive reinforcement, psychological motivation, any things you have done in the past to help reset this mind frame. Thanks in advance -
In need of some positive reinforcement
newoutlookonlife replied to newoutlookonlife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for the advice and support.. Today is a new day Pre tracking in my fitness pal is a great idea! I have done it at times to help prevent me from eating something I thought wouldn't put me over... My doctor has not said stay away from chocolate per say but moderation. I was allowing the occasional treat so that I wasn't so tempted and I was doing good with that until recently. I guess what I feel the most guilt about is not necessarily the fact that I ate the chocolate but that I am on the slippery slope of emotional eating.. I say that because yesterday when I posted about this I used the chocolate to feed my anxiety I was having in that moment . The important thing is that I recognized it, that's a big step. Onwards and upwards now. Thanks for supporting my vent -
What do you look forward to post-op?
newoutlookonlife replied to ShayLeigh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am looking forward to...wearing shorts.. Haven't since I was a teenager and man does that make for a hot summer, taking my kids swimming to a public pool.. My oldest is 6 and I have been too embarrassed to go, horseback riding.. I couldn't get up on the saddle for many years, and the thing I currently look forward to everyday is the smile on my face when I look into the mirror every morning -
Am I Hungry or Full? 4 Weeks Post Op Today.
newoutlookonlife replied to bobaloo11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to get that feeling too...for me not getting enough fluids and the acid played a role. I never thought it could be the acid because it didn't burn but after taking a tum or two when I would start to get that feeling I did get relief. -
Did your husband support your decision?
newoutlookonlife replied to musiclover's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
At first my husband did not really like the idea, he tried to pretend like he was being supportive but really he wondered if it was all just a huge waste of money. Now, 4 months post op he is amazed at my progress. I think he is still a little reserved wondering if I can keep it up but on the whole he can't believe how much I have transformed both physically and mentally. He recently told one of our friends that he was scared he wouldn't be able to eat the things he loved anymore too but that this process has helped him eat healthier as well. He did the food funerals when I was doing my pre op diet and at first I thought he was such a jerk but now I understand what he was going through. Just remember that you are doing this for you. Research family sabotage, I know I had found some articles which helped me be prepare for what could lie ahead. Best of luck. -
am I being naive? ?
newoutlookonlife replied to PhoenixTheDiva's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The first person I told was my physician. He had such a negative reaction that I left there feeling like a worthless piece of #%?! It took me just over three months to mentally recover from that appointment. Once I did pick myself up off the ground and decide to find a new doctor It was almost 6 months. I only told my close family once I had already paid and had that surgery date booked. I didn't want anyone else's rude comments effecting my thought processes. since I have returned form my surgery I have told everyone that has asked how I am loosing all of this weight that I am working my butt off, eating properly and that I had gastric surgery. I have not encountered one negative comment since returning, not to my face at least good luck with whatever you decide -

VSG POST C SECTION
newoutlookonlife replied to JElk7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had two c sections, and so far I have lost 72 pounds. Unfortunately my skin does not have the elasticity needed to bounce back. I will have to have it removed but fortunately for me my province covers a tummy tuck for those who have had c sections and have an apron. I am on the wait list already -
A small suggestion regarding ~~Water~~

For me warm fluids go down better than cold or room temperature. I found roobis tea is my saviour for getting my water in.
