April Sleevers/Success and Struggles
jazzybmxmom replied to StefanieT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on Apr 6 and am down a total of 50 pounds. I'm not sure when to start calculating weight loss. Should it be from my initial appt Jan 28th (50#)? Or from my surgery date Apr 6 (30#)? Either way, I'm losing! I don't have problems with acne but I share your struggle with Protein. It's harder to eat now, and I have to remember my basics: small bites, eat slowly, chew 30 times. Good luck to you. I love your rewards! -
Sleeved 4/16/2013...OH, I just found this thread...
jazzybmxmom replied to Suko67's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone, I was sleeved on 4/6 and pre op wt was 266, and I'm down to 242 today, 5/26. I think I'm 7 weeks out. That seems slow to me, but admittedly, I'm not following the diet 100%. My food quantities are very low, but I'm maintaining the no alcohol, no carbonated drinks, no caffeine rule. I am feeling weak though and lack of energy. -
Gained 3 lbs
jazzybmxmom replied to KatieOkieDokie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gaining a bit is totally normal as your body adjusts. Keep in mind your weight loss will not look like a slide, rather it will look like a staircase: you'll drop weight for a while, then plateau, and even gain sometimes (remember you'll only have bowel movements every 3 days or so). Keep following your plan and everything will work out. Chin up! You made the right decision. Jazzybmxmom, 9 weeks post op. -
I was sleeved on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 and am flying to see my 92 year old grandmother on Saturday, April 19. So, just over two weeks of healing since my surgery. I was sleeved at Kaiser and the nurse case manager is freaking out about me traveling because of the risk of blood clots. I know I have to get up and move around the cabin, as well as stretch my legs about once per 45 minutes, but she's advising me to not go at all. I can't NOT go. This is the last time I will see my grandmother alive. Anybody have experience with flying on an airplane soon after surgery? If so, what was your experience? I have had a very good recovery - I'm already back to work (was back at work at one week post-op) and am holding down food well, walking well, sleeping well, etc. I think I'm healing remarkably well (at least I feel well). But of course, I don't want a blood clot popping up and killing me en route. Any advice is welcomed.

Air Travel After Surgery

I had no trouble flying, at least I don't think I did. I wore compression socks and got up and walked about 2 hours in. -
What did it feel like when you woke up from surgery?
jazzybmxmom replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I woke feeling terrible gas pain. That hurt, but it's manageable. As noted above, the leg massagers are awesome, and by day 4 I had turned a corner. A week out, I was back to work (I'm a teacher). I just told the kids I'm gonna sit most of today, so just listen to what I say. I was in a lot of pain from day 1 to 4, but after that, back to normal! Good luck! -
Question about flyin after surgery

Weight loss stops at 6 months post op?
-
I also had the sleeve on Apr 3. I am also on full liquids (stage 2 on kaiser). I find that if i drink too fast or gulp then it feels like I've swallowed a pebble. sleep is difficult because I'm so sore. The liquid Vicodin gives me a terrible headache so I'm just using Tylenol. I'm trying to stay positive but I'm super uncomfortable. I've been walking the last two days and that's helped.

Are you able to tolerate cottage cheese? I have Kaiser too, and they say that after 4 months, you should be back on the pre-op diet. What about scrambled eggs? Omelettes? Hard boiled? (I know, I am sick of eggs too. My surgery is next Wed). Tuna salad? Are you able to tolerate chicken?

Congrats! I can't wait to follow your progress. Good luck!
