    how to deal with "non-supporters"

I agree with Andi in that it's your decision and yours alone. I myself have lost all support from friends and most of my family except for my mom and sister. My so called friends and family think I took the easy way out and everyday before I had the surgery, I was reminded that I was taking the easy road. I am 3 weeks post-op and I must say that this is by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Easy doesn't come close to what I've had to deal with the last 3 weeks. I sometimes feel alone with this journey and sometimes it feels like my doctors and his staff are my only friends who really understand why I got this surgery. So I understand where you are coming from. The best thing to do is ignore negativity and do what you feel is right for you. The best thing I did was join this forum because I feel surrounded by people who truly understand. I hope it all works out for you and good luck in your journey
  3. I was in the ER again today with another kidney infection. I am 3 weeks post-op and this is the second kidney infection I have had in 3 weeks. Did anyone else have this issue after surgery? I am a bit scared and the doctors tell me everything will be fine but I have been diabetic since childhood and I know diabetics have kidney issues sometimes but I've never had any issues with my kidneys until I got this surgery. Any advice or information would be very helpful. Thanks in advance :)

    Greek Yogurt Recs?

I agree with Vicki on the Dannon Light and Fit cause the fruit is kinda pureed and you can whip the 2 together and it tastes great and I HATE YOGURT lol and being a diabetic means I have to watch my sugar intake and this brand of yogurt is highly recommended by my endo

I've been diabetic since childhood but I have never had any issue with my kidneys until after my sleeve surgery.

How do you know when to stop?

Hiccups and sometimes it will feel like someone is pressing on my chest really hard. I wish I could drink water without issue. I get so thirsty sometimes but I can only sip water down.

    kidney infections?!? scared!

Yes GoldyGirl, I was told exactly that and the pain in the lower right part of your back is or could be a sign of a kidney infection. I hope everything works out for you and good luck to you as well. Antibiotics will clear it up but the pain sucks on so many levels especially if you're someone like me who refuses to take pain meds unless I am given them in the ER or hospital. I try to use natural forms of healing but sometimes they aren't enough

    kidney infections?!? scared!

my doctor has never mentioned anything like cranberry pills. is this something we sleevers can take? when I was in the hospital after surgery, I was told pills would be difficult to take so everything I take is in liquid form. cranberry juice is something I have always loved and included in my diet even before surgery but my dietician told me to stop drinking it cause it had to much sugar in it. it's kinda difficult to follow instructions when everyone's instructions contradict each other lol.

    kidney infections?!? scared!

Yes my back is killing me to the point that I cannot stand up. This morning in the ER I was given morphine for the pain and it helped but I know it will come back. I know this is temporary but pain truly sucks. Thanks again for the info.

    Aetna Chioce POS II

I also have Aetna Choice POS II and it didn't take long at all. Since I had never been on a weight loss program or diet, Aetna had me go through a 90 day program that included eating a certain amount of calories a day and they also wanted me to lose a little weight before surgery. I also had to get a psych evaluation and go through a nutrition class. I was told this 90 day program was necessary to make sure I would succeed post-op. Not everyone has to do the program so you will probably have to wait to see if Aetna will need to you complete it first. I was approved the first time with completion of 90 day program. Good luck to you and I hope everything works out for you

    kidney infections?!? scared!

Thank you very much for the reply and I have been drinking protein drinks for 2 weeks now. I am following a meal plan that my doctor and dietician gave me and it has me drinking 2 protein shakes a day. I drink the Cytosport brand that has 45 grams of protein and I drink half in the morning before work and half in the mid afternoon. I have yet to try any type of veggie or fruit except for applesauce, pearsauce, and tomato soup. Next week I move to soft foods so hopefully I can try more veggies and fruit. Thanks for the info. I was beginning to think I was gonna have kidney failure. It's never a good thing when you're in the ER and the er doc says that your blood work puzzles her. Kinda scared me ya know!
  13. My experience was awesome! the staff was very helpful and they treated me very well. The only issue I have with this particular office is that they are quite busy and my post-op doctor visit will be 1 month after surgery rather than the recommended 2 week visit. Other than that, I am satisfied!! Oh and their dieticians are awesome as well!!
  14. 3 weeks post-op and I got my sleeve down by Dr. Sherrod here in Austin. Here is the website if your interested. http://www.capitalsurgeons.com/ Good luck and hope it all works out for you! HOOK'EM lol couldn't help myself

    Before & after sleeve 3/11/13

Keep up the good work!! Got sleeved on 3/18 and everyone keeps telling me that I look so much better but I look them straight in the face and tell them that cosmetic changes wasn't the reason I got this surgery. I want to beat diabetes!! Looking good is a plus good luck to you

10 days post surgery and full of questions

    thanks to everyone who replied
  17. Well it has now been 2 weeks since I had my surgery and everything seems to be going ok. Except for the kidney infection (anyone else get one of these after surgery), I have been feeling ok. I was wondering if anyone else had an issue with being afraid to drink or eat anything after surgery? I seem to have built up this fear and now I seem to be stuck in place with no idea how to move forward. My doctor is unavailable for a least a month as well as the surgeon who did the surgery so information is something I have had to get from online sources. Any help will be much appreciated I am also aware that soft foods may be eaten starting week 3 but not sure what qualifies as soft food as many websites tend to contradict each other. Any pointers from seasoned members is also appreciated Getting enough Protein seems to be my biggest issue since Protein shakes have never really been something I have liked. I am very postitive and look forward to meeting people on this great site. Thanks and have a great day!
