  1. As stated above, the two weeks is the most difficult. I was two weeks post op Monday and yesterday was the first day I felt hunger. It was usually 2-3 hours after eating. But it when away within a few drinks or bites of Protein. People mention head hunger, but I'm not sure what that feels like.
  2. My surgeon left. I was able to follow him to his new practice. From an insurance perspective it shouldn't impact you to switch surgeons, should you find another facility in network. Hope it works out for you---I know it's frustrating and scary!
  3. Just wanted to thank everyone for this site! I'm two weeks (yesterday!) post op and this community has been such a help. From reading others struggles, issues and successes to being able to ask questions and everything in between---I love it. For example---for the first time since sleeved, today I'm feeling hunger about two hours after eating. Of course the "oh my gosh the surgery didn't work" brain kicks in. I just did a search for "hungry" and found a few threads where others ha dealt with this at various stages. My fears were calmed. Sometimes we know something intellectually, however in the heat of the moment, when left to out own devices we convince ourselves that something is abnormal. It could be that many of (pre-sleeve) us are used to be the exception to the rule. Always the hungriest. Always the biggest. Always feeling like a failure. That's all. Thank you to everyone who encourages, shares, gives the hard to hear info and all who are in this community!

    Am I eating too much?

I had my 10 day post op appt with surgeon on Thursday. I told him I could already eat a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and it didn't seem to be too a much. He told me not to worry about it. Everyone is different. He said the sleeve will not let you overeat. Obviously "slider" foods might be different. I expressed my fear that my stomach wasn't small enough. Lol. He told me that's a common fear. He assured me it was.

    Vitamins

I use a one a day chewable for bariatric patients. It's Procare Health. It's chewable and not awful, but you can also swallow it and receive all the benefits. In addition I take b2 and calcium (1200-1500 a day, spread out). I hated all the chewable calcium I tried, I finally went with a "petite" kind from Wal Greens.
  6. In the first six days, my only "feeling" when I drank too quickly (still happens, but I can tolerate more) was my stomach kind of spasmed and cramped a touch.

    uh oh soup problem

My phase 2 specifically says cottage and string cheese. My understanding is portion and fat content. In phase 3 or 4 it says cheese with less than 5g fat per serving.
  8. It's been an interesting week. Trying to get foods in, balance the protein, etc. today begins my surgeons Phase 2 (from liquids to cream soups, string cheese, soft potato, cottage cheese). I've read to only eat three meals a day. And it's suggested to wait 1-2 hours post meal before drinking. Also, to wait 5 hours between each meal. Right now that just doesn't seem possible. My thought is for these first few months to work on getting in protein and calories, even if that's eating every 3 hours, as long as I'm not full. Is this correct? Or will this stretch my stomach? Love to know thoughts of others.

    I am so excited!

Congrats! Great work. From previous posts I think I remember you having a pretty rough time at the beginning. Glad you kept plugging thru!

    Ninja vs. Nutra Bullet

If your regular blender is working, I just read where regular mason jars usually fit the blade. You can make your own single-serve blender. I have a Nutribullet. I've not had it for very long but I love it. Crushes ice and the fruits and veggies to a VERY smooth consistency. I've never tried the Ninja.

    No NSAIDS with the Sleeve?

Mine said no NSAIDs for life.

    One week post op.

That makes perfect sense. I was a little scattered in my initial post. I actually have a program booklet from two programs (surgeon moved facilities during pre op period). The second booklet explained things a little better. It basically said what you suggested. Three meals a day, with supplements in or between meals. Thank you!!

    How old am I?

22-27. When do we get to find out who wins the door prize?

    Blenders?

I could not afford a vitamix. I bought a $99 Nutribullet and have been super happy with it. I like the compact size, and with the sleeve you can make very small batches. unjury unflavored was NOT unflavored to me. I've not tried it post-sleeve. The Syntrax Medical unflavored is more palpable to me. I mix half a scoop with crystal light. Half scoop is only 5g, but that's 5g more than I would have with just the Crystal Light...which I'd be drinking anyway.

I could only find the option when I logged in online (not mobile).

    Post op food guidelines

I wasn't trying to be rude. It honestly worried me if nutritionists weren't giving this. You are like me, you want to know this stuff ASAP. Enjoy the journey!

    Post op food guidelines

Your nutritionist should have given you this at some point. Was that not the case?
  18. It's amazing how linked our bodies are. We (those who've struggled with weight) understand that we aren't just lazy and lacking in willpower. Yet we buy into that thinking because of our culture. We also get frustrated because we live in a FAST world. We expect instant results, and if we don't achieve them, we immediately think WE must be broken. I've been in a medically supervised weight loss program for almost two years. Do you know what they stress at our weekly meetings as much as the behavior and nutrition? Positive self talk. I think there's a reason for that. It's so easy to get caught in the spiral of hopelessness. As the gentleman said, obesity is like being in prison it a world of pain. But there is a hope! And that's what keeps us going despite stalls, unmet expectations, poor choices and everything else we struggle with. I'm so thankful for this community of people who are traveling thru this journey to health control together!
  19. Or some reason today is the hardest yet! I'm cranky. I don't want to eat anything. When I heard people say it was difficult to eat after, I assumed it was because they were full from the restriction. Mine is I have zero desire and am so sick of the liquids and protein supplements tasting bad. Seriously not whining. I know this is part of the process. Just wanted to vent to those who understand the most.

    Soap taste?

It's so odd how our bodies adjust/react to this. Thank you all who shared....I seriously thought I was going crazy or having psychosomatic symptoms!
  21. I had surgery four days ago. Feel like I'm over analyzing everything I put in my body! I feel like things (some things) taste like soap. Is this weird?
  22. I didn't exactly mean it was only up to the surgeons. I cannot imagine going through this without tons of prep and research and work. Obviously many do. I've also known a few people that shouldn't have qualified for the surgery (low BMI), and still had insurance and surgeon approval for surgery. Should they be allowed to have it because they "want" it? No. I was also referring mostly to a surgery group that I'm aware of that run people through like a factory for surgery. That's very irresponsible to me. It's also not solving any problems; for the patient or for the cost of healthcare. It is very much up to each individual to figure this out. And the healthcare professionals (not insurance companies) should help guide and educate them toward the best decision for them.
  23. How exciting! Folks who are not overweight do not always understand the countless "little" things that excite those of us who've struggled with weight.
