3 months out.....Grazing or overeating......
Teachamy replied to PGee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT has said, liquids first, protein second. As long as you're getting in your minimum protein, do what you can within the 30 minute time frame. You're doing great! -
Any long-term sleevers out there for advice?
Teachamy replied to carriecat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am pre-sleeve, so feel free to ignore me. I am a type I diabetic, so I have been dealing with nutrtiion my whole life. Have you tried cutting grains out all together? (no wraps or chips for a while, keep your carbs limited to fruit/dairy.) Also try lean meats, fish, and low-fat cheeses. Also, if you can tolerate them, a lot of vegetarian options are low-fat and good sources of protein. And as always, track your intake, weigh and measure your food, and keep fighting the good fight! Best of luck!!! -
Wow. it does sound a bit like a mid-life crisis. Really fun, but a little unnerving, I imagine. Have you seen a therapist about what you are going through now? Has your husband been supportive? Have you shared your thoughts with him? I always find therapy a safe space to work out what seems to go around and around in my head. It sounds like it could help you too. On a side note, many congratulations on your success and your new hotness!

I have been told no coffee, not even decaf. (also too acidic) for the 1st 3 months while the stomach is healing. Then I will be allowed coffee again. THANK GOD! I too have an affair with Joe. He gets around!

I am curious about the original question. What does the new full feel like? Not over-full, just satisfied? I guess I've always felt like i could eat more, and rarely felt "full" in my average pre-sleeve life, so I am wondering what will it feel like?

Your body is healing. Your pouch is swollen and you are retaining fluids. A lot of people come home from the hospital weighing more than they were were when they entered the hospital. Breathe. Keep to the plan and believe in the process. 10 lbs. is great!

So cute!

I am still pre-op and I try to avoid it. It makes me hungry!

My Planet Fitness Experience was not as great. ALWAYS packed. The only "help" that was offered was by 19 year olds striking poses in sports bras and spandex, who stood behind the counter looking bored and chatting up the boys who strutted in to flex their muscles. It was disappointing. It is a great deal though, so I am glad you found a good one! I found a gym I preferred, and i also bought my own elliptical machine, which is my favorite!

Or better yet, watch "Supersize Me" and pay attention to what happens to liver enzymes on McDonald's "food". NOT healthy!

Weight Loss Stall at 2 weeks Post-op

I do love that article, Arts 137. It really breaks it down in a way I can understand it. -
One month after surgery
Teachamy replied to ReadyNewM3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Woo hoo! Bye bye metformin! Fantastic. I have Type I DM, so no cure for me, but I can't wait to see my AICs after surgery. Congratulations! -
Whats it like being under and waking up from surgery?
Teachamy replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had this surgery yet, but I've had several others. It doesn't feel like any time has passed, but you wake up with people telling you it's over. You feel sleepy and groggy, and that's it as far as the anesthesia goes. As far as the sleeve goes--I can't wait myself! -
Weight Loss Stall at 2 weeks Post-op
Teachamy replied to Kristina Mccarthy-Martin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start weighing yourself once a week-- you're going to drive yourself crazy. I've seen millions of threads about the exact same thing! 15 pounds is awesome, by the way! Yahoo! -
I crave foods I shouldn't eat.( CHEESE and salty-crunchy anything) Arts 137, you and I may share a brain. I always agree with your posts. At any rate, I am wondering about those restaurant commercials and how they will affect me post-surgery. As of right now, I am trying to figure out how to combat them. They always give me the munchies!

It depends on the flavor. Plain is sort of an acquired taste. Kind of like milk. You get used to it. There is also vanilla and chocolate. My kids love the chocolate variety. I usually put the plain in cereal, but since I won't be having cereal post-surgery, I probably won't be buying it very often.

2 weeks post op and issues with real food
Teachamy replied to aunnyq@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 3 weeks, my NUT said I will be able to start eating 1/3 to 1/2 cup per meal. Prior to 3 weeks, she recommends 2-4 TBL of food. As your body is still healing, I would recommend focusing most of your nutrition on shakes right now, and just letting your body practice swallowing food again. It might be a case of too much too soon? -
I don't remember the price of Six Flag tickets, but you may have to consider how important this is to you and your wallet. While there, you'll need to listen to your body, and if it tells you to stop, you may need to accept it and stop. Being broke and not all that into roller coasters, I think I wouldn't risk it.

10 weeks out and don't feel like eating...
Teachamy replied to karpouzian's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I think this "eating to live" thing, with snack as a noun rather than a verb is new to many of us. Carry some foods with you that are quick to eat--can you eat nuts yet? You don't need many of them to get in some necessary protein and omega 3 fats. Otherwise, exercise may trigger some hunger in your body. The many hormones in the human body are astounding. -
Me too. After an unrelated health delay, I have an appointment with my NUT and social worker for a check-in today. Hoping to see my surgeon next week, and hoping to schedule surgery for Dec. I look forward to "shopping in my closet" soon too!

Personally, I like the Slim Fast high protein vanilla shake, but I am weird.
-
My husband is afraid too. Luckily (or unluckily?) for me, I have some concrete health issues I can point to--I think it helps men wrap their minds around this stuff. 1. I am diabetic and want my A1Cs perfect, for once in my life. 2. High cholesterol, high BP, and sleep apnea will all be improved when I lose weight. 3. I have a weird autoimmune disease that causes my body to attack various organs in my body. It is often thought these attacks are mounted by gut hormones, and that losing weight may improve my body's inflammatory response. I figure it's worth a try... Good luck to you. If you can break it down for your husband, it might help. I hope it does!

Beware the Sugar-Free Jelly Belly: A Cautionary Tale
Teachamy replied to Daydra's topic in Food and Nutrition
37 grams of carbs = nearly 4 units of insulin for me, so if I am going to indulge, I will indulge in something that doesn't send me to the can! Thanks fo your cautionary tale. It was a good one! -
LOVE the mint hot chocolate, BTW. Delicious.
