    Road trip

Think Thin protein bars are nice and soft. Good protein too. (And yummy!) May be a slider for some folks...

    Is anyone listening?

But the real question really is if a tree falls and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? (Sorry attempt at humor to lighten the mood...)
  4. Blended and peeled fruit removes the fiber and strips the nutrients from the mashed fruit. All that is essentiailly left is sugar. Fruti smoothies are marketed as healthy, but are filled with carbs and calories.

    Successful

    Whoa mama! Fabulous!
  6. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a few years ago. It did not even give my surgeon pause. I have just been told to bring my machine to the hospital with me. it shouldn't slow things down.

    Any food addicts here?

My social worker at the bariatric center mentioned that because food addiction provides us something, many people switch to other addictions to provided the same comfort. She mentioned, smoking, drinking, pornography and shopping! I thought she was wrong until the mention of shopping rang a bell for me. I can't wait to buy new, cute clothes! So I have to make sure a new and harmful addiction doesn't spring up to replace the old one!
  8. Have you tried losing by other methods? A lot of us resort to this surgery because other methods have failed us, and we need the help the VSG tool will provide. If you find you are always eating "the wrong things" it may be a good idea to get some counseling around food. Try new things, maybe even a few Weight Watchers classes to learn how to eat and what a normal portion size is. It just seems to me that you're not ready for this yet.

    Why the pre-op diet?

The pre-op diet for my program is not solely liquid. It is 3 protein shakes per day, 2 small meals, 1 fruit, and 1 yogurt. My surgeon is less concerned about the pre-op diet for me, apparently because my BMI is relatively low. (In the obese realm of low.)
  10. I was first scheduled for surgery July 31. I was geared up, I was positive, I was CRUISING through my pre-op diet life. Life was good. Then BAM! KAPOW! SMACK! A roadblock. My heart decided to beat in Afib, and until it was zapped back into regular sinus rhythm, no VSG for me. That really broke me for the entire month of August. Reverted back to my coffee drinking, my emotional eating...But as the school year loomed, I managed to get back in the game. The surgeon had a cancellation, and I see her (again) Monday! I am scheduled for a 7:00 AM surgery on December 18th. Shazam! Ahh...it feels so good!

    Ladies HELP!

Classic little black dress! You can't go wrong! If you wear a sweater, make sure to take it off! You've got to die for curves!
  12. In stage 2, (3-6 weeks out for my surgeon/NUT) you should be eating a 1/3-1/2 c. serving of food per sitting, and 3 oz. meat. It sounds like you're in the ballpark! Beginning at week 7, I am told to work up to 1 c. of food per meal. I will be avoiding processed carbs (like crackers) as much as possible.

    Any food addicts here?

I am pre-surgery, but am a mindful food addict. As a type I diabetic, I have had to be mindful of carbs, because the amount of insulin I need to bolus is based on them. That doesn't mean I avoid them though. I eat a lot, so I take a lot of insulin, insulin makes you hungry, so I eat more, then need more insulin, which makes you fat. it's a vicious cycle. I know the sleeve will help me avoid carbs, lower my insulin levels, and hopefully decrease the Type II-esque insulin resistance I have developed. Because I am on the border-line ( I need a 35 BMI to qualify for insurance) I have yet to really alter my eating habits. I've been tracking calories on My Fitness Pal, and I range from 1400-2400. Pretty scary fluctuations based on my stress level and fatigue. So all that head-hunger battling is before me.
  14. I have invested in a good belt. Never used to wear them because I didn't want to draw attention to my middle. I have pants in my current size (16) down to size 12 from years past. Some smaller shirts too, so I am hoping to be able to shop in my closet after surgery!
  15. Positive vibes sent your way. You can do this!
  16. Congratulations! Did you have PCOS prior to your weight loss?

Handling the Holidays with a Baby Sleeve

Sorry your family isn't supportive. It's never easy. When I eventually start solids, I plan to food process my meat at first. You should see if you can find fat-free lo-cal gravy, if you're so inclined. Squash would be good too, I bet. And cranberry sauce.
  19. YES! It's normal! you will find many, many posts about the same thing. Don't worry!

    not pregnant but wanting advice.

Off-topic response, but I know how hard it is to see others pregnant when you want to be so desperately. I have 2 close friends with PCOS, both were blessed with healthy daughters after using Chlomid. (sp?) At any rate, I lost my preemie daughter after 4 days of life, and I've seen my friends go through years of suffering. You are definitely not alone. I was lucky enough to adopt 2 amazing kiddos, and they are the light of my life! Best of luck to you. Amy
  21. Good luck with this. I am pre-sleeve and am worried about the head-hunger issue too. I plan on seeing a therapist to help me through those moments of salty-crunchy cravings.
  22. Once I reach goal weight, my NUT said I will most likely work my way up to 1200 calories per day. Just wondering the number of calories sleeve maintainers on the forum eat.

Handling the Holidays with a Baby Sleeve

Although I am going to make it through Thanksgiving pre-sleeve, I am hoping to be sleeved on Dec. 18th. I always make the kids gluten-free pancakes on Christmas so I could indulge too. (I have Celiac) This year I will make them regular pancakes so I won't be tempted. (I SERIOUSLY won't be tempted. I have had Celiac for 6 yrs., nothing is worth the agony!) I am not too worried about dinner...broth will be fine, I am sure. I also like the idea of going to the movies on the holidays. i know they are open Thanksgiving evening, what about Christmas? It would be a good time to hang out with the kiddos and sip, sip, sip. My mom is planning to help me with wrapping gifts and final details. VERY happy about that too. I am so excited!
  24. Hooray! Happy for you!
