  1. Remembering vitamins and getting in my water throughout the day.
  2. Update on me: I lost a total of 18 pounds my first month. My NUT said they want everyone to lose 10-15% of their weight in the first month. I lost 14.6%. Very happy with that!

    dieting

i do get hungry, but it takes a lot less to satisfy me. And if I eat a bite too much, it comes right back up to haunt me. As long as you make good choices, it is a great tool.

    Nail polish off before surgery?

All they told me was no makeup, but I took my shellac off anyway, just to be safe.
  5. I loved the gummie bear post the first time I saw it (her I think) a few months ago. Had to post it on Facebook! Thanks for the laughs!
  6. My husband took the time off from work to take care of the kids, pick them up from school, etc. I didn't know he was planning to do this until a few weeks before the surgery--I had my mom planning to come stay with me. Overall, it was nice to have them both there, except for the first day. I was so groggy from pain meds I was too tired to try to hold a conversation! Otherwise, it was nice to have my husband escort me to the shower and help dry me off--I remember that being a biggie for me. I had a male nurse most of the last 2 days, and as I became less groggy, I became more modest.
  7. The sleeve is relatively new to my bariatric center, so they keep patients for 2 nights. I was there 3 due to some cardiac "fun". Was soo happy to go home!

    Hats...who knew!

Whoever "she" is, she'll be wearing white jeans, thigh-high boots, and hats I bet!

    Mr. McButterpants!!!! Ha ha ha!!!
  10. Yes, my DH has been great at loving me up and complimenting me for sure! But he does not find fascination in the scars like I do!

    reality check

Not me. Once I realized this surgery could rid me of sleep apnea, high blood glucose levels, asthma symptoms, high cholesterol and hbp, I was ready to try it. I also read an article where a doctor said to his patient, "Look around you, how many 70 year olds do you see that are as heavy as you?" Not many. And most of those that do survive are plagued with everything I already have plus an increased risk for heart disease and cancer! I want to live a long, happy life, and I wanted that new life to begin as soon as possible! That being said, your hesitations and questions are totally valid. We all go through some amount of soul searching before taking this step. i hope you find the right option for you!
  12. Increasing exercise always made me feel incredibly hungry. Maybe you can try adding salsa or spaghetti sauce to some foods to bulk up what you're eating. I've also heard Protein bars and shakes right after working out help muscle recovery and curb the appetite. I am looking forward to getting back into the bars again myself. ( I was sleeved on 12/18! Get weighed again tomorrow.) Sounds like you're doing great! Keep it up!
  13. Definitely make sure you talk to your nutritionist! And I hope you like Beans and hummus, because you need Protein to heal and get through this! I am not a vegan, but I do eat a lot of vegetarian foods. I have added Protein powder to the top of veggie burgers and then covered them in salsa so I don't notice the powdery texture. After a few months, we should be able to tolerate nuts too, which will help us both with protein. Good luck!!
  14. I lost 15 pounds my 1st 2 weeks after surgery, and will learn more Wednesday when I weigh in at the NUT's office. If watching your weight is driving you crazy, maybe you should take a break from the scale for a while. A lot of people take measurements because if you don't see the weight coming off, you may see the inches coming off. I am going on how my clothes fit. (A lot better right now!) Not having a scale in my house is helping save my sanity.

    OK....how did you know.....

My NUT said no raw veggies or fruit until 3 months out. You'll be able to eat them again! Don't worry!

    OK....how did you know.....

Yep. Too much of a good thing is my problem too. And I hate that it varies. One day I can eat a whole scrambled egg, the next day the last few bites come right back out again! My baby sleeve is very cantankerous!

    Not doing good with foods!

Try eating less. Maybe a tablespoon is all your body can handle right now.

    question on frozen yogurt

Just looked at it. 18 grams. About what I see in regular greek yogurt.

    question on frozen yogurt

Are you diabetic too? I am curious--how many carbs does the version sweetened with Splenda have in it? I base my insulin on carb. values and find artificially sweetened ones can sometimes be deceiving.
  20. My surgeon requires birth control for her patients. I have the Mirena (going on 7 yrs. now) and while I do think it had something to do with some of my weight gain, I am keeping it in for now. If I find I can't lose weight, I will have it removed. I've only been weighed once since my surgery, so we'll see how it goes when I get weighed next week!
  21. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing!

    question on frozen yogurt

Most commercially sold frozen yogurt is sweetened somehow, while there is such a thing as unsweetened frozen yogurt. As far as Protein goes, even the version sweetened with Splenda only has 4g. of protein per serving, which really isn't much considering you're trying to get in 50+ grams of protein per day. I guess you could look to blend it in with a protein shake, but that will be a good question for your NUT. Good luck!
