    Sleeve today, in recovery

    Yay! Good for you!
  2. Teachamy

    Consultation

Great! Good luck! You're on your way!
  3. Check out wonderslim.com. They have amazing mint hot cocoa (and regular). And they have protein drinks that are more like Crystal Light. I really like the Tangy Orange! You can also turn their shakes into pudding really easily, and I liked that too. A nice alternativeYummy protein!
  4. Ditto. Whey protein is a great way to get your protein in.
  5. Do the NUT and surgeon work together? Do they communicate? Maybe you should call your NUT back and tell her what her colleague said. Maybe they can make 1 firm decision and get back to you! How aggravating!

    My journey

Wow! What a fascinating story! Thanks so much for sharing! So glad to hear this surgery helped save your life. You are a success! I agree with your surgeon.

    No Energy

It took me a full month to feel close to normal. Your protein will help, so be sure to choke down your shakes. If you can take another week off, do it. If not, sleep when you can, you need the rest!

    24 Hours!

Good luck! Don't worry about over-packing. You'll be asleep most of the time! I'd also bring a chapstick. Your lips will be dry!
  9. You look so much younger in the 2nd picture! I can't get over it! Congratulations! And thanks so much for sharing your story and your photos!
  10. I ate at least 1200 calories a day. I only lost 3 pounds.
  11. I know that that is true for a lot of people with the lap band especially. My bariatric center has phased out lap-bands completely. I don't know the exact stats, but it is possible to gain the weight back, even with the sleeve as a tool. Try not to be discouraged by this NP. Chances are likely s/he doesn't know the real statistics. It should be their job to help support you in taking this step and to make sure they are there to help you succeed. How upsetting for you! You will be great--just make sure you have appropriate support from the medical professionals you see. If this particular office discourages you, find someone who can lift you up instead of putting you down.
  12. I am going to start trying to savor this more. I am not impatient, I would just call myself EAGER. Eager to see many of my health issues disappear, eager to feel better, and eager, of course, to look fabulous!

    Highly considering VSG surgery

Yes, my love! Many of us have been there. In fact, I think we've all been there in one way or another! You are very brave to consider this tool to help you-- and it will! I've done Weight Watchers and South Beach, as well as hours upon hours of personal training, and I only got down to 185 too. I even came to the point where I thought, maybe that's it--maybe I should just start accepting myself at this weight. But my health was impacted, so I looked into surgery. And I am SO GLAD I DID! It is so nice to step on a scale and not feel on the verge of tears. It's nice to fit into clothes that were too tight a couple of months ago. It's nice to see my health improving. It's just so nice to look and feel better! 23 Is a great age to start looking into this option! Imagine a year or 2 from now where you could be! I would recommend talking about this with your PCP first, see what s/he thinks about it. And Good Luck!
  14. Water is tough. I am up to 56 oz. today so far...I chew gum. Last week I ate 2 corn chips, but I tracked them. They didn't sit well in my tummy. And I literally fantasize about the day I get to start drinking coffee again. It's not healthy. I ordered a bunch of new K Cups today. I CAN NOT WAIT!

Stomach bug 1st time post op

Oh that sounds horrible! I hope you feel better soon!
  16. You look fabulous! Congratulations!
  17. You should check with your surgeon's office about clear liquids. I've seen everything from water, to broth, to jello on liquid lists. GOOD LUCK!

    First Appointment Questions

Same. My doc. asked me why I decided on surgery. We went over my co-morbidities, what she thought I could expect. I asked some questions, my mom came with me, and she asked her questions. Pretty easy!
  19. I am 6 weeks out, down 21 pounds. (But I haven't weighed this week yet.) My trick is to avoid the scale! I weigh at my bariatric center once a week or every other week, then I normally see a loss. 1-2 pounds per week is fine with me!

    Half Way There!

Go Terri! get busy! you're rock star!
  21. Thank you for sharing. I had the nausea too and had to spend an extra day in the hospital. Those early days were tough. I sent my family home from the hospital because I too was too tired to hold a conversation. I spent most of Christmas day napping. I have found that the sleeve surgery was completely worth it for me, and I hope you find the same! My energy gets better every day--thank God! I am almost 6 weeks out. Best, Amy
  22. It's excellent that the modern medicine is finally recognizing food addiction.

    My surgery is scheduled!

    Congratulations Lindsey! That's excellent!

Foods you can't tolerate since surgery

I avoid anything with grain in it right now. I have celiac, and I got mighty used to the highly processed gluten free breads, crackers, and more than my fair share of rice. I don't find pasta, cereal, rice, bread or crackers helps my nutrition, nor does it help my blood sugar control or weight loss. I am a Type I diabetic, so I have to inject my insulin, and if I eat more carbs, I need to take more insulin. Insulin=fat. It's what non-diabetic bodies release in response to carbs. So no grain for me for a while! But so far, I can tolerate most foods unless I eat too fast or too much. (Then it comes right back up!)
