mirena and post op period
Teachamy replied to JSC2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting. I have had the Mirena for 7 yrs. and had the same experience. I chalked mine up to the fact that I am now on Pradaxa, a blood thinner. The first time I noticed a period, I went out and bought pads and liners and tampons, but it was unnecessary. I only need an occasional pantyliner when my period hits. (But I never really needed those before surgery.) -
How much weight did you loose, before you could really notice a change in your apperance?
Teachamy replied to takingaleap's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
After I lost about 15 pounds, my family noticed because I lost it all in my face, neck, upper arms, and shoulders. Once I hit 25 pounds, I noticed it in my waist. (Which used to stick out further than my hips, now they are pretty much a straight line.) When I have lost weight in the past, I never noticed my shape changing, but this time around I had so much more to lose, so even 26 pounds shows quite a difference. -
Cold feet and fear of lack of discipline
Teachamy replied to moxamama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The morbidity rate of someone who has a 50 BMI is higher than the potential for complications with WLS. Someone once said, "How many people do you see walking around at 70 who are over 250 pounds?"For what it's worth, I have seen many people who have been successful with WLS, and none of them looked ill or waxy. I know I am looking pretty damn good! That being said, if you are not ready for this surgery, don't let anyone force you into it. You will only be bitter, and if you're not committed to the work necessary to make it succeed, it won't. -
I'd slow down in terms of amount. Lobster is pretty tender, and before you know it, you've eaten more than a half cup portion. (Which is what I assume you are probably eating right now.) Also, my program says no shellfish until you're at least 8 weeks out. (I have no idea why, and I tend not to et it, so I didn't ask...) I hope you're feeling better!

Bread/pasta question
Teachamy replied to planetheather's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My thin, healthy, vegan hair stylist has chosen to avoid grains and focuses on nuts, fruits, and vegetables. She told me that after a while, she stopped craving them, and I've found that true for me too. I was a total starch addict. I still eat beans, and I imagine eventually I will need the fiber of oatmeal, and a little slice of pizza for fun, but for now I am satisfied avoiding grains. I really miss sushi, and I love the idea of riceless rolls! Why didn't I think of that???? -
Quest bars are Poo Bombs
Teachamy replied to 2Big2Skate's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Personally, I would love a poo bomb right now. My ammo. is dangerously low and I fear a blocked cannon. And I've been eating Quest bars regularly. -
How far out from surgery are you? You most likely didn't "stretch" your pouch, but that's a lot of food for someone to consume with a new sleeve. Has the discomfort eased? If not, call your doctor.

Congratulations!

That's great! best of luck.

Incredible shrinking legs
Teachamy replied to jujube's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, you may still be bloated. I had a similar loss pattern to you. (Are you an apple-shape too?) I lost weight in my face, neck, shoulders and arms at first. My gut seemed to stay the same. It is definitely smaller now, but it took a while for my pants size to drop. -
I had horrible nausea for the first 3 days after surgery, but it passed. I am sorry you feel so sick, but good for you for advocating for yourself. You know your body, so keep fighting and speaking up until you feel better or until they discover the source of your problems. Good luck and good health to you.

people see an amazing transformation..but not me
Teachamy replied to abarta83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a weird world, isn't it? Our own body image and negative self-talk for so many years really makes us feel weird when we start to look thinner. I say if you're comfortable sharing, share. If not, tell them how you lost it--you restricted unnecessary calories and you started to move. No one needs to know about the sleeve if you don't care to share. No one on my FB knows, except an old acquaintance who also was sleeved! -
Movie night... No popcorn? Help
Teachamy replied to tiffany81's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Popcorn is a starch and all carbs, so take it easy if you choose to have any. -
I have gone through some hungry stages, particularly during that horrible time of the month. It passes. If you are reaching for junk food, though, you'll need to strengthen your resolve. Remember to track EVERYTHING you put in your mouth, and maybe try a yummy protein bar to help you get through your desire for sweets.Best of luck!

I remember hitting my 3rd week and being allowed to eat an egg. I was so excited! I think it's normal to miss food, to an extent. And as long as you know there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and you know you must eat well, you will be OK.

NSV's and body changes! This is the first weight loss journey I have encountered where I look in the mirror and see obvious changes in my body. I am getting compliments and feeling good in my clothes! It's a new world!

Residual Enlarged Esophagus from lap band turns to gastric sleeve for help!
Teachamy replied to nyesq's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have no expertise on the lap band either, but I wish you the best. I was someone who worked out and tried every diet out there before I was sleeved. I am still a slow loser, but it has helped me so much! I hope it works for you! -
I guess you should just drink your 64 oz. and moisturize! Maybe a home humidifier would help?

If you can't be honest with your trainer, or if they come from the Jillian Michaels school of bullying clients, maybe you should find a trainer who will support you and meet you where you're at. My trainer knows all there is to know about my health woes, and she's heard every curse word known to man as I do the tasks she assigns. She always takes my negative self-talk away and makes me feel proud of my effort!

I believe in My Fitness Pal too. It keeps me honest and helps me decide if I really need to eat an extra snack. I've seen days that I nearly hit 1000 calories, and it frustrates me, but it makes me work that much harder to stay under 800 cal./day. I am under 700 cal. 90% of the time. I know that thanks to MFP.

It's now 10:25. You are probably out of surgery! I hope it went well!!

I haven't used any compression garments for tightening loose skin, but I am a firm (no pun intended) believer in "foundation undergarments". (tanks, panties, etc.) Spanks are great to smooth and shape the lumps and bumps. I don't think I will ever have the money or nerve to seek plastics, so I will be buying stock in the company!

You could always walk stairs, if you have them in your home. Kind of boring, but it works. Start with 10 up and 10 down--it will get your blood pumping. Good luck!
