I was sleeved 3.5 months ago. I know this is an old post, but please feel free to message me. (Anyone) I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

Hi Jen, I have been a Type I since the age of 8.I had the surgery 3.5 months ago and in terms of control, it has made a world of difference! I am beyond happy that whenever I check my blood, I can expect the "Wilford Brimley" blood sugar. (You know those obnoxious commercials with 'ole Wilford claiming he had a 94 glood sugar?) Anyway, now that I am down 35 pounds, I am finding far too many reactions popping up. I have cut my daily totals from about 80 units a day to 26. I typically don't need to bolus. So, it's driving me a bit nuts, but I know it's all good. I am looking forward to an amazing A1C for the first time in years. Taking all the good and bad together, it is the best decision I ever made! Amy

Many wonderful things have happened to my blood glucose and insulin levels since VSG surgery. My sleeve has made my blood glucose levels near perfect, and has dropped my insulin levels to a third of what I once took. I am feeling deeply frustrated today, however, because with every pound I lose, my insulin need drops dramatically. Before this realization occurs, I experience horrible low blood sugar reactions, sometimes several a day. Last night I awoke to a 39 blood sugar, and couldn't believe I didn't go unconscious in my sleep. I am on an insulin pump and I lower my basals everyday. I don't need reminders of how much this is improving my health. I guess I just needed to vent. Thanks, Amy

having a hard time with my enemy the scale
Teachamy replied to kyleebean's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Agreed. STAY OFF THE scale FOR 2 WEEKS! Have someone in your house hide it from you if you have to. It is causing you to focus on a number that is false right now. Think about NSV's as you recover. Chart your nutritional intake in MFP.In 2 weeks, you will hopefully see a number that agrees with your expectations. -
I just need to share my mini-VICTORY

Rock on! That's awesome! -
Hi all, I have a total of 70 pounds to lose, and once I lose these last 35, I am wondering if my tummy "AKA--Butt in the Front" will be sagging. If so, I am not convinced that I have the energy or finances to go under the knife again. My mom suggested a new laser type procedure that she used on her thighs. (Of course, she is a size 8 and always has been...) So I was wondering if any of you have thought about something like this? Has anyone had a consultation/procedure? Many thanks for your input, Amy

Less invasive plastics?
Teachamy replied to Teachamy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Trudyjo,I'd recommend googling cosmetic surgery in your area. I looked up "Cool Sculpting" Where they freeze fat cells in target areas to help reduce fat. The before/after pictures aren't dramatic--you have to maintaining a normal weight--but the changes are noticeable. There are also other means of tightening loose skin if I am actually able to eliminate the fat on my gut some day. (Yeah, right!) Snochick, I'd love to see how it goes! -
Could I be dehydrated?
Teachamy replied to Steph W-O's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would go to your doc. and ask for a simple urine test. They can "dip" your urine to make sure you're not spilling any evidence of infection, glucose, or protein. If you're drinking 64 oz. a day, it seems odd to me that your urine is dark. You probably are just one of those people who require more than 64 oz., but I think it's a good idea to err on the side of caution and rule out everything else. Good luck! -
Why no drinking 30/30?
Teachamy replied to rycurll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no real problems with soup. The veggies get mushy enough in the broth, and since I don't eat rice or Pasta, I don't encounter any barriers there. Drinking Water on the other hand is a real problem for me. I have to give it a good 15 to 20 minutes, or the water comes right back out! -
Anyone NOT need skin removal?
Teachamy replied to Fuff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only planning to lose 70 pounds, so I imagine that makes a difference, but at this point, I don't think I'll need any skin removed. And btw, sweetxpetunia, I am the ripe 'ole age of 40 and am still pretty elastic, thank you very much! LOL! -
6 Weeks Post Op and Stall
Teachamy replied to ShayLove's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Is it TOM? Watch your sodium intake and make sure you are getting your fluids in. During PMS, I hang on to weight and lose it once my period starts. -
Advice on dealing with rude, obnoxious father-in-law's comments?
Teachamy replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your father-in-law sounds like an abusive bully. Have you talked with your husband about his dad's behavior? Does he agree that it is abuse, or does he make excuses for his father's behavior? I understand your anger and your desire to be protective of your husband, but it sounds like your husband (and his siblings) may need to work some of this stuff out with a therapist. That is, of course, if he is willing and can acknowledge that this is not "normal" fatherly teasing. How would your husband feel if you confronted your FIL's hateful behavior? -
That is fantastic! I loved hitting the "overweight" benchmark. Seeing anything that terms me "normal" will be a cool validation! Good work!

I eat too fast, any tips?
Teachamy replied to Amanda121279's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I try to sit away from distractions, at the table, not in front of the TV. (Which was an old munchie habit. ) That really helps me slow down. Sometimes I put my fork/spoon down on my plate in between bites so I am not thinking of it as a shovel. Take the chance to breathe in between bites. -
Happy all is well! Best of luck!

I have to agree with Chelenka. It may improve with more hydration.

Joining gym = weight not moving?
Teachamy replied to purplegerber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may be a wait and see kinda thing. How long are you exercising? Are you doing weight training and cardio? It may be that you need a few more healthy calories added into your diet. How many calories are you consuming now? -

How do you focus on goals when you're grieving
Teachamy replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry to hear this, Lyn. Such a profound loss! Do what you can do, eat anything that you can force yourself to get down--Protein bars, drinks, etc. I thought nuts might work too because there's a lot of protein packed into a very small quantity. -
As far as I am concerned, I look better with a tan. But tanned skin=damaged skin=wrinkles and the possibility of skin cancer. I may go to a salon to get a spray tan, but I am not risking my life to look browner. Just my opinion.
