  1. YES! Everyone loses differently and your body is in shock. You aren't even 2 weeks out. Your body is holding on to those ounces. Please, please, please stay off the scale for a week or 2. You're going to drive yourself nuts. 3 days of no weight loss 11 days out is not a stall. Keep your chin up and don't allow yourself to feel defeated. Patience.

3 months post op and stalled

Hey stranger! I am noticing the same thing. Drinking has always been a challenge, so I added straws. Much easier. Quest bars have become sliders for me, so I am eliminating them for a while, and nuts too. It's been challenging to stay within my calorie limits, especially with the need to drop my insulin levels. (Reactions all over the map!) Step away from the scale for a while. I've been away for 2 weeks, but will probably need to face the music this week. Keep your chin up--you're a month behind me and you've lost more! You're doing great!
  3. There were no requirements for me either. (Just that I met the criteria for surgery--35 BMI with co-morbidities) I had paid my $700 out of pocket, so my surgery was covered 100%. I have Anthem BC/BS of Maine.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Our perspective is a lot alike!

Stop the Whining Over A Few Miserable Days!

Anyone that elects to undergo this type of procedure is brave. And about an hour or two after surgery, I had a little regret myself, because I felt like I had the worst flu of my life. But as the nausea passed, my regret faded away. I imagine some people have a harder time accepting this change, or fully understanding what food meant for them--a type of solace and comfort. Many of us got quite adept at denial, at talking the talk, but not walking the walk. I take it from your screen name that you have not always been obese, but many, many people on this page have no idea what it's like to be thin. I think their difficulties might be different than yours or mine.

Butt shelvers have all the luck.

    Repetitive and Circuitous Topics....

Man, I leave this thread for a few days and I miss butt shelves (which I am envious of), apparent strenuous sexcapades, and booger consumption. (Can sumption be done about booger miners?) The next time someone asks for pureed food ideas, I may find it hard to hold all this new-found information back!

Hair loss, evidence with picture and me bitching...

I am jinxing myself by saying this, but so far, I don't notice much change. I have fine hair, and it tends to fall out pretty readily anyway. It also breaks off pretty readily too. I have taken to washing it every other day and conditioning it well, as I chose this inopportune time to try to grow it out. Maybe washing it less frequently helps?

I am convinced we are all going to be the HOTTEST bald women around. Look out Sinead O'Connor. You're a hasbeen.

    Nail polish

I'm not sure what they "probed" when I was under anesthesia--I believe I had a similar experience with aliens once.(LOL!) but I was in the cardiac ward and was hooked up to so many tubes and wires, I lost count. I did have a finger monitor attached at times.
  11. The SOuth Beach diet suggests egg white muffins. You put egg whites into a muffin pan, mix in veggies, fat free cheese, etc. Bake and there you have it! They freeze well and can be microwaved. I also eat a serving of nuts or Weight Watchers string cheese in the morning. Whatever travels well.

    Protein bars ?

5 net carbs is great, but 340 calories is more than I tend to eat in a meal. Hard to balance.

    Protein bars ?

Quest chocolate chip cookie dough. Soo good, escpecially heated. I would recommend buying them on Amazon, rather than through Quest Nutrition, if you're planning to buy a box. Be careful though, they can be "sliders". I also really like Think Thin creamy Peanut Butter. They are the consistency of a soft candy bar.

I wore nail polish. No one even questioned it.

    help.! not losing

Your weight loss seems right on track to me! I was sleeved in Dec. and you and I have lost about the same amount. Do you use My Fitness Pal? If you are lost, it helps to track everything you eat/drink there. Then you know exactly how much you are taking in. I stay between 600-800 calories a day. Good luck!
  16. It will happen. Then you can be like me! RIght now my 14's are getting too baggy, but my gut tends to hang out of the 12's. I just donated 4 bags of clothes that are too big and make me look frumpy, but now I've got NOTHING TO WEAR!!!!!
  17. I have a drawer where I keep my Protein bars and nuts. Kids/husband are not allowed in it. I also have a refrigerator drawer where my yogurt, cottage cheese, and string cheese are. This is also off-limits to the fam. When they are indulging on chips or crackers, I ask my husband to try to buy the kind with gluten. (I have Celiac, and nothing is worth me risking that pain...) I find that IF I touch corn chips (my slider food) I can't eat just 3. That's a problem. So I try not to touch them at all. I'm not sure there's an easy solution, but I am working on it! Every day is a struggle.

    Repetitive and Circuitous Topics....

I have fallen in deep and passionate love with everyone on this thread. Thank you for making me laugh tonight! And Revs, my heart beats especially for your description of the "bilious vomitorium of defensive low-level vitriol". If you take a break, I I will miss you and sweet little dictatorial Kim Jong Eun. In fact, I ask that you consider a coup d' etat of your own. I am ready and willing to join in the revolution!

    LMAO!!!!!
  21. I'm a type I diabetic too, and since I have to take insulin, my hypoglycemia is usually a miscalculation on the amount of insulin I need to take. (75% less than I used to take) If I bolus for snacks, I usually experience a mind-shattering low. So I am learning to cut my insulin more and more. Pretty soon I will be taking far less than a diabetic baby. Go figure!

    Post-op type 1s?

Hi again, I don't need to bolus now, except occasionally I need to for a Quest bar. Otherwise, I always regret it because I get a low. Great job on your A1C! I get my next one in a couple of weeks, and I am praying for that elusive "under 7". I am keeping my fingers crossed. Have you had to drop your basals a ton yet? Lately I seem to be having a reaction at least twice a day, and figuring it out is making me crazy. I need to consult my CDE about the settings. She can probably shed some light on the patterns that I don't see.

    Fruit?

Most of us keep our carbs as low as possible. And yes, that can include fruits. But post-op I have found 1 clementine or a half of an apple fills me up, so I haven't been too concerned about over-doing it. Grapes do have higher carbs than some other fruits, as do bananas.

Too many lows! I am going nuts!

Hi Grammy, Yes, I have Type I diabetes, which means my body attacked my pancreas when I was a child and destroyed the beta cells a body needs to produce insulin. It can't be cured. I have chosen to wear an insulin pump rather than inject insulin several times a day because I can fine tune the many boluses I have programmed into it. (For example, I need more insulin around dawn than I need in the afternoon or evening, so my pump is programmed to deliver it then.) I adjust my insulin pump alone most days, because I am cutting the amount of insulin I am taking. I have done it for so long, it is obvious to me when and where the lows occur. I have a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) at the ready if I have questions, and I meet with her regularly. That being said, I am very thankful for the good that has come from VSG, and still very frustrated about this disease.
  25. I didn't see anyone else commenting on the difference of Type I and Type II until I got to the 3rd page of this "poll". I am a Type I diabetic. Type I can never be cured, and is not the same disease as Type II. It frustrates me that so few people understand the distinction or mention that.
