    For the Ladies

If it doesn't show up, check with you endo. Sometimes Type I diabetics go into early menopause. (Seriously...we get all the luck!)

    Brain Stall

Good for you! Slow and steady wins the race.

    Whats ur favorite puree?

I ate a good deal of tomato Soup with flavorless Protein powder.
  4. Have her try your diet for a few days if she thinks you are cheating. Maybe she'll get the picture. Then you can follow LipstickLady's advice and tell her to suck it.

    Weight at a stand still

And I wouldn't mess with your calories just yet. You are only a few weeks out, and you need to follow your doctor's meal plan. There is no way you'd be able take in 1000 calories at 3 weeks out.
  6. Happy to hear you are OK and the hospital/doctors know their stuff after all. As as a type 1, I have found the need to drastically taper my insulin. I am on a pump too, and if II bolus, it is rare. (And usually a mistake, as I tend to tank after doing so. ) I am still trying to balance the need to treat lows with carbs while needing to keep my carbs low for weight loss. It slowed things down significantly this week. Hopefully it will all figure itself out! Best of luck to you too!

    Surgery is tomorrow!

Good luck! Once I was in my room, I was "out of it". Having a conversation was too tiring. I couldn't imagine using the computer that whole week. But I hope you do update us all--I'm sure it will be helpful for all pre-ops! Best of luck!

Confused on how weight loss works

And as MFP reminds me everyday, we are not eating a minimum suggested diet. (1200 calories.) Many of us eat half of that.
  9. Oh! So that's what they meant when they said hair loss! Hope my head is shiny under there!

how much are you losing? I can't figure out if it is my normal hair loss or if it is because of surgery!

Not a ton, but enough to notice it sticking to my hands in the shower. I have very fine hair, so i notice it, but I am not bald yet! :)

Working on getting over yesterday's personal pity party. Moving right along...

    Facebook boo-boo....

If it's a public page, I think it automatically gets shared with your friends. I made that mistake on an auto-immune disease support page. Then all my FB friends started saying things like (((HUG))). I hadn't meant to shar eit, so it was embarrassing to me.

  14. Your stomach is higher than you realize, and some of the pressure is from the sleeve. The rest of the pressure/gurgling is partially due to gas, partially due to the spasms as your food travels down to your sleeve. At this stage, it is VERY important not to throw up. You don't want to rupture your sutures. If 4-5 spoonfuls makes you uncomfortable enough to want to throw up, you are eating too much right now. 1-3 spoonfuls is all your body can handle, as your stomach is re-learning its job. Your main nutrition should still come from Protein shakes. As time goes on, 4-5 spoonfuls will become comfortable to you, but don't force it. Good luck. Slow down and try 2 spoons. You should feel better. And don't worry, it won't stay like this forever!
  15. Ketosis causes sort of a sour/ fruity type of breath. Gross, but it passes eventually.

    Gas-X strips in Australia?

If you can't get the strips, other types of Gas X will be fine. BTW, did you try Amazon?

    Sick and Sick of it.

Maybe your doctor can suggest something. Wondering if there might be a lactose/wheat intolerance? Probably not if it's a first thing in the morning type of deal. Maybe too much Fiber? (Some of those Protein bars are killers...) Keep track of what you eat the evening before these episodes occur. Hopefully your doc. will have some ideas. Feel better!
  19. Didn't drink enough on Sunday. Woke up with a UTI. The agony! That will teach me...

I had that feeling yesterday! Always happens to me! I had to back off of the citrus acid for a while, too.

    EASY WAY OUT!

If this happened to me, I would tell people to do some research and come to me with questions. (After I tell them to F*%K off!)
  23. I feel for you! It took me a good 10 weeks I'd say to really grasp the sleeve. I would eat too much and it would come right back up, or I'd try to eat too fast, or I got sick of the same 'ole same 'ole foods. By 12 weeks, I was considered "healed" by my team, and I got the opportunity to try more things. I was tired a lot, and still am, mainly because of blood pressure and diabetes med. changes, I imagine. I used to train hard in terms of exercise, now I look at all aspects of my life. Steps I take, stairs I take, laundry, housework, anything that makes me breathe hard or break a sweat. I cannot believe your bariatric program! How do they expect people to get better on 8 weeks of liquids? That is unbelievable. Good for you for advocating for yourself. I guess I'm back to normal now (I am almost 5 months out) but it's a new normal. There are moments I enjoy the journey, good blood glucose, good cholesterol, no sleep apnea, getting smaller, etc. But I think a lot of moments are moments of endurance and calculation. Should you force yourself to exercise? Maybe start at 10 minutes 3 times a week, and consider everything you do that can be counted as movement. As you get stronger, exercise will become easier. I remember Oprah once saying she hated every moment of getting on the treadmill every morning, and I agree with her. I always hate exercise-- until I am done. Then the endorphins kick in! I hope things get bearable for you very soon. Best of luck! Amy
  24. Ok--I don't want this to be a yadda, yadda, I eat nothing but soy curd, sprouts and organic Beans kind of post, but what the hell. I'll throw caution to the wind and share. Tonight I went to that dark, secret dungeon of hell--a restaurant (!) with my family. I was starving, and even a sleeved celiac has desires that the menu was ready to satisfy. Burgers, juicy, heaped with cheese and bacon on a gluten-free bun. Gluten free pizza, gluten free chicken tenders (NO WAY!) I couldn't decide. I have been telling myself that occasional dalliances with naughty food would be OK, if I could stay within my calorie range and keep my carbs reasonable. But I've been staying away from all types of pork and beef and cheese. I need to cut my saturated fat. I keep telling myself all this important nutritional stuff, but did I mention I was starving? Here's what I did. I went to the bathroom, turned around and checked out my back fat. Yep, back fat. I have it, it's ugly, and man, those florescent lights taunted me, "GIRL! You don't look as good as you think you look. Now waddle away!" I grabbed a love handle and wagged it at myself in the mirror. It jiggled back like fleshy white Jello. So back to the table I slumped, defeatedly. And I ordered a hummus plate, no pita! (That's my pitiful triumph, feel free to applaud...) My kids and husband ordered deep-fried avocado fries, macaroni and cheese pizza (that's pizza with macaroni and cheese on top) and buffalo wings. And I ate celery, carrots and hummus. Uh huh. I know. Anyone else have restaurant triumphs or tales of woe to share?
