Getting depressed because of my slow loss!
Teachamy replied to Scylla's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get off the scale and go by how you feel and how your clothes fit. Weigh no more than 1X/week. I know it is tempting to base your loss on the experience of others--believe me, I've been there. But this is not like it was pre-surgery. You won't fail this time. This is not a race and there is no finish line. You will get there. Believe in yourself and your very brave decision to have this surgery. You got this! -
Ummm... well, let's see. Last night I ate Pirate's Booty for dinner. Ho hum. Not always easy to counter PMS--and last night was a prime example for me. Find a chocolate protein bar you enjoy, and leave room in your calorie restrictions for a little treat. Exercise more. At least your binges will be smaller post-op!

Dermatologist/Endocrinologist question...
Teachamy replied to a new begining's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Alopecia has got to be hard, especially for women. I really think you should go see your dermatologist and determine if this is really what is going on with you. If so, no--the hair won't grow back. And surgery certainly doesn't help matters in the hair department. Have you spoken with your dermatologist/endocrinologist about a different professional hair piece/wig (often covered by insurance) for conditions such as those you mentioned? They are made of human hair and it would cut down on the stares. They look real! I know it is certainly not ideal, but the bottom line is this. WLS will save your life. If you are healthy now, it is temporary. Better to be healthy and bald than a corpse with hair. Sorry to be so blunt, but it is the truth. And you will look so fabulous to boot! -

What is a mini gastric bypass? The name alone is problematic for me. -

Sleeve Surgery & Diabetes
Teachamy replied to psychoangel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Type I diabetics have no insulin-producing cells in our body. It is a completely different disease. I assume your nurse was a Type I. -
Great story! Thanks for sharing. I hated knowing I was obese too. The word has a sting to it.

One week post op and I am hungry, all the time.
Teachamy replied to Lynnheb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am surprised you can drink so fast so soon after surgery. Has it been that way since day 1? I am not sure why you are so hungry, other than what is often called, "head hunger". In other words, are you really hungry, or is it your mind, so used to relying on food that it tells you you need to eat. I would recommend talking to your bariatric team and getting some therapy around food issues, if you haven't yet. It helps! -
How Many Calories @ Day?
Teachamy replied to lapnicky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I try to keep under 800, and when I average under 800 with carbs under 60, I lose really well. -

need advice for getting fluids down
Teachamy replied to ninan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Warm herbal tea was my best method of getting Water in. Still is, some days. Take tiny sips and keep your fluids with you at all times. It gets easier to drink as every day passes, so don't worry, it won't always be like this! -

Oh the meds! Ugh! I take diltiazem to slow my heart rate and I have CRAZY dreams as a side effect. Can't wait to get off that stuff. (Or maybe he will lower the dose at least?) -
Typical day of eating? Inspiration needed :)
Teachamy replied to tami88's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
This morning I had 2 Weight Watchers string cheeses. I can't live without them! I also had 20 cashews. (Nuts in 1 oz. quantities are great for me.) I ate 1/4 of a Quest bar for a snack. And for lunch I ate Amy's vegetable and lentil Soup. (1 cup) I'm also alternating sips of Water and coffee with Silk creamer. Tonight I need to eat and run to Little League, so I will likely have a few Applegate chicken and apple breakfast sausages. I don't have any sugar free popsicles right now, so I may need to stop and buy some. (It's hard for me to live without them.) My sliders are corn chips of any kind. If I eat 1, it's all over. This is sort of a veggie and fruit free day for me, but I hope it gives you some ideas! -
Sleeve Surgery & Diabetes
Teachamy replied to psychoangel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends largely on whether you are Type I or Type II. I have Type I, which can't be cured, but my insulin levels have dropped drastically, and it has become very easy to control. If you have Type II, it is likely you will not need control meds at all, as insulin resistance drops tremendously and your body still manufactures insulin. The best thing I've ever done for the treatment of this disease! -
NSV! NSV! A colleague walked past my classroom today and said she didn't see me and wondered if I had a substitute today. (I am a teacher.) Then she realized..."OMG! IT WAS YOU!" It was the best news I heard all day. Rockin' these Citizen of Humanity jeans!

WLS may help prevent A-Fib
Teachamy replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
"The message here is that getting the weight off can have a powerful reversal effect on atrial fibrillation," Day said. "Atrial fibrillation is a reversible condition, it's not set in stone. This is a message of hope for so many patients suffering from it." I hope so! I've had 2 medical procedures called cardioversions (they zapped my heart back into a regular pattern of beats). Not difficult procedures, but being in AFib is no fun! (And it delayed my surgery for 5 months!) I hope it is gone for good now that I am no longer obese! Thanks so much for sharing! -
I love the Mirena. No periods.

has anyone had to go back into surgery after sleeve
Teachamy replied to marmello's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had to have a cardioversion after surgery. They didn't have to make an incision for this procedure, but it went fine, no problems. I am sure you will be fine too. 2 very different parts of the body! (I had some ovarian cysts removed a few years back.) Good luck! -
Stalls mess with your head!
Teachamy replied to aNewTanya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely take the battery out of the scale! Over the course of the last 2 weeks I only lost 1 pound, but it was still a loss when I finally got on the scale! They're evil, I don't visit them often.
