I am diabetic and needed some fast sugar this morning. Big mistake. I think I lost about 3 pounds of water weight!

    So THAT'S what dumping is?!

These episodes sound like what I experience when a little bit of gluten gets in me. Swearing to God I WILL NEVER EAT CROSS-CONTAMINATED FOOD AGAIN! Cramps like the world is coming to an end, sweating, shaking, hot, cold, hot, cold followed by profound fatigue and dehydration. Lotsa fun. You ladies have convinced me no froyo or ice cream will ever be worth it!

    Hit the trail today!

Gorgeous pictures! I haven't ridden in so long. I miss it! Thanks for sharing.
  4. Wow! Your boyfriend sounds like a keeper! that is so sweet! Fish oil is supposed to be very good for heart health, so I take a chewable supplement which doesn't have a fishy taste. (Although it isn't as yummy as my Fiber gummies.) If you do decide to go the supplement route, you want to find a fish oil pill that advertises no aftertaste on their label. Burping up a fish flavor is GAWD AWFUL!
  5. I was told my calories may need to increase somewhat, but I am confused by this. As you get closer to goal has that been the case for any of you?
  6. Oh man. Ate too fast. Gonna hurl--trying to hold back!

i think "holding" it in is awful - if you have no choice go to the ladies rm - you will feel better, and hopeully you've learned a valuable lesson

It passed...It's been a rough few days with digestion for me. My body is rebelling against calories. It's been a fight to get in 600.

  7. OK, that makes sense, if you're losing 10 lbs. a month, which I am not. I haven't recently ramped up exercise, and I still have over 20 pounds to go. Curious what her (dietician's) thoughts are on the matter. I don't think I am ready for a calorie hike, but she seemed to imply it in her latest email...
  8. I had almost 3 weeks to recover and needed it. I was not in pain, but very, very fatigued. It was a full month before I started feeling like me again.
  9. T @@Teachamy while i was losing weight/through stalls and alls - I never upped my calories i have heard some./many people do increase their calories (exercising more - or changing things up a bit) if your NUT/doc "strongly suggests" you upp your calories, and you feel good with that - go for it i'm of the thought - "if it aint broken, don't fix it!! " you are continueing to lose weight terrifically keep up the good work kathy congrats That was my thought too, Kathy. I haven't weighed lately, so that might be a factor in my dietician's decision-making, not really sure. She is very happy with my current progress though. Guess we'll see.

    Coffee

I was told to stop coffee and decaf until 12 weeks after surgery. Too acidic, or so I was told. I was a bad little WLS patient and waited as long as I possibly could bear, but it wasn't 12 whole weeks. Couldn't deal without it in the dead of winter!!! I am sipping my iced coffee right now!

For the love of sweet Jesus.....

I have read through this entire thread again to see If my remarks were off. Even as I read them again, Its clear to me my remark about "jerks" wasn't pointed at anyone in particular. However, in the context and flow of the thread I can see how it could have been read as me calling MR a jerk. It was a newbie mistake for me not to make it clear that I wasn't dissing her. So to MR and those who love her, I am sorry. Please let me know what else I need to do or say to clean this up with you. (Please don't ask for a 20 page paper that compares and contrasts Protein shakes because then I'd have to start a Rant about that and we could get caught in some sort of Star Trek infinity time loop. And you know what a pain those are! Please, please lets stop the insanity of this thread......I beg everyone! I am writing this while being high on Morphine due to my latest hospital trip....... Oh RJ! Feel better, love.
  12. It probably depends on how we lose. I lost lot in my face and neck, so when I hit 30 pounds I started to get comments. It probably varies from person to person. They'll start asking you questions soon!

    Hungry

I have heard that gas right out of surgery can mimic hunger pangs. Try some Gas-X and see if that helps. I was not hungry for a couple of weeks, but I know others have felt what you are experiencing too. good luck!

    "The girls" aren't lifting weights!

I went from a 38 D to a 38 D long. I really thought they had gotten smaller--but they just became 2 dimensional! I did go out and get fitted and tried on about 20,000 bras and found no underwire, padded and underwire sheer worked the best. So I bought a couple, because you never know where I'll end up 30 pounds from now. Probably will need to be fitted again. I never thought I'd ever consider plastics, but I am beginning to change my mind.

    Exercise for disabled?

My immediate thought was "chair exercises" too. There also videos for walking in place. Sounds silly, I guess, but it works! I also find "water walking" or swimming to be gentle and helpful. Hope you can find something that seems appealing!

For the love of sweet Jesus.....

Whether or not we agree with sentiment, one can not help but enjoy Revs' writing "I may have to have a Michael Douglas Whammy Burger moment." or "wanders off grumbling to my cave of mean". Makes me laugh. So I don't really need to "take a look in the mirror". I'll keep posting questions and responses the same way I always do. It helps me get through my post-op journey. And I'll continue to look forward to Revs' rants.
  17. It does still tend to bug me, but now I just tell people, try eating 600 calories a day and exercising. I am losing the weight. The surgery isn't doing it for me!

    serious problem!

I am on Mirena too, and my spotting seems to have stopped. (5 months out) Hope that doesn't mean I am no longer losing fat! Your doc. might suggest you skip the "off week" on your bc pills--that may work, or it may make you a hormone-surging monster on your vacation. I hope you find the solution though! Good luck!

    Don't hate on fluffy people

Have you ever seen the movie "Mean Girls"? I am thinking of the scene where the girls stand and look at themselves in the mirror and start saying things like, "I hate my shoulders!", "I hate my nose"! That scene resonated with me, because that's what we as women do. Self-deprecating humor can be charming in small doses, but there is often a shred of truth beneath everything we say about ourselves. Some level of deep inner hatred directed at ourselves and only ourselves. Our fellow WLS sisters are sensitive and we all need to remember that what we say about ourselves affects other women around us. Thanks for this reminder.

    no time for me

Hey Snappy--Are you competing with me for helpful responses? This is great advice!
  23. Teachamy

    no time for me

I hear you!!! Focus on 15 minutes a day. Walk up and down stairs if "taking a walk" is an odious thought to you. Do that for 10-15 minutes a day and you'll be really accomplishing something! Also remember that it is OK and necessary to take time for yourself. It is important to set some personal boundaries for yourself. "Dad" needs to give you 20-30 minutes a day to be alone--don't be afraid to ask for it. And don't be an all-or-nothing person. Some is always better than none. If 5 minutes is all you can manage right now, 5 minutes is a good start!
