    1st Post-Op Appointment

My first post-op appointment was today also. I really need to work on protein and fluids (40g and 32oz a day isn't enough). I told the doc that I was having trouble with nausea associated w/ eating so he prescribed another med to help with that. I'm still on the liquid diet but then again my surgery was June 3. I did good on vitamins and exercise though. So, taking each day as it comes. I was at 207 today...225 has been my highest ever.
  2. After Monday's surgery, I stayed overnight in the hospital (as planned) and returned home Tuesday afternoon. Felt sooo good to sleep in my own bed without someone waking me every 2 hours to see if I was ok. What little pain meds I've been taking seem to do the trick

    Anyone feel amazing post op?

Had my surgery June 3, out of recovery and into my room by 430p. The night shift nurse did her best to keep ahead of any pain I was having. I found out at 4am that I hadn't asked for pain meds up until then. She brought me a small dose at 4am and another at 6am. When the day shift nurse came in I didn't ask for pain meds and got released at 5p June 4. The car ride home wasn't much fun as we had to get RX meds. Anyway, I've been getting up every 4 hours of during the night to walk around, taking some liquid lortab each time. The only pain I have is at the incision sites....and even then it comes from using muscles to do things like sitting up in bed from laying down.

    scared nervous and hungryyyy

Sleeved June 3....Home from the hospital now. Found out that I hadn't been on pain meds for the past 10 hours at the hospital, but I had some liquid lortab when I got home.
  5. That's IT! Today my stomach and I are getting a divorce--I've gone thru all the proceedings and as of today I want you GONE! Take your belongings and all of you little friends (pounds) with you! I'm starting my new life without you NOW! See ya'll on the post op side :)

  6. Me too! Gotta be at the hospital at 730am.

    scared nervous and hungryyyy

My surgery date is tomorrow, June 3, but today is the first day on clear liquids. I'm with you guys...I'm hungry today! I've been trying to keep my mind off of it by cleaning my house...it's also keeping me from being nervous about the surgery. I also look at it as a preview of the days right after surgery.
  8. I'm scheduled to be at the hospital at 730am tomorrow. Not sure if my surgery is 1st or 5th on the list for my surgeon so we might be getting sleeved at the same time by different surgeons. I'm not nervous about the surgery but instead a little anxious and a little worried---anxious to get it over with and worried about the recovery and learning to eat again but this too shall pass. Then we are on our way to thinner! Adding you as a friend...keep in touch and let me know how you are doing and I'll do the same!
  9. Lost another pound today....and expecting to lose some tomorrow too. Liquid diet day...tomorrow is surgery day!!

  10. Survived the last day of the pre-op shake diet!!!!! Liquid diet starts tomorrow---and surgery on MON!

  11. TWO more days on the pre-op diet, 1 on clear liquids ...and then it's bye bye stomach!

    Steri strips

My doc's office said to let them fall off on their own, but it's ok to trim them if they are catching on things like your clothes.
  13. THREE! more days of shakes, TWO! days of cleaning, and a day of clear liquids (singing to the tune of "12 days of Christmas")

    Pre-op shakes

I purchased a Magic Bullet blender and bought a lunch bag big enough to hold it and 2 glasses w/ Protein powder and a measuring cup. On my lunch break, I add water/ice find an outlet and blend it up. Sometimes I put fruit in the bag too...or even choc syrup (Hershey's makes a sugar free version). And the lunch bag I have is no bigger than any of the ones I've seen others carry into work!

Will i reach my goal weight

When the psych asked me about my weight goals, here's what I told him: My goal for tomorrow is to weigh one less pound than today and if I lose that pound, my goal for tomorrow is to weigh one less pound than today. And if I don't manage to lose that pound, you might have guessed---my goal is to weigh one less pound than today. It may be a small goal, but it's VERY achievable. All of those single pounds add up to an amazing amount over a year! Granted, you won't lose a pound EVERY day but you can keep that one pound goal in sight! To some this might seem like the horse chasing a dangling carrot that it can never get--but to me it's a series of obtainable goals.

    Help...very confused

Was going to suggest protein shots...high in protein, low in carbs...til I got mine out of the cabinet and saw 180 cal in each and then realized that you would be on a liquid diet. So I think I'd call your NUT to see what they can suggest.

    Odd but cool NSV

Way to go mom!! Several years ago, if someone had made that comment to me, it would have destroyed my diet and I would have gone back to being a perfect picture of what they needed me to be. Way to go for turning it around to be seen as a compliment and for politely letting her know that she needed to get used to the new you!
  18. Today is brought to you by the number FOUR! 4 more days on the shakes (and one day of liquids before surgery) and 4 pounds off the scales finally!

    Carbonation

My doc's packet says the same thing, but explains that if you repeatedly stretch your sleeve with fizzy carbonated drinks--you will lose the effectiveness of your sleeve. And why go thru the pain of surgery if you aren't going to use your sleeve to lose weight? I personally wouldn't bother with the surgery if I planned to look for ways to cheat because I'm only cheating myself out of a thinner me!

    Injured- Need A New Workout

No problem Nicky...glad I could help! Karen
  21. My surgery is June 3 and I have been reading everything I can get my hands on about the surgery. I've found that a little bit of praying and a LOT of education have calmed me. I feel pretty well prepared for the coming days, but know that I'll go thru a period of "buyers remorse" during the first month after the surgery. When I see people eating things I once enjoyed and can't digest them yet because I'm not fully healed, I'm sure I'll miss food and wonder if I did the right thing. At 5'4" and 220lbs, my friends question why I'm doing this--but it's MY journey and I need the extra help from the sleeve to get me to where I want to be. I'm also hoping to get off of type II diabetes drugs, high blood pressure meds, and lower my cholesterol. I'm not excited about the pain I'm about to endure...instead, I look to the future of a smaller me! As for the trip to Mexico....I'm having mine in the States so I can't speak to that either. Just remember that you won't be allowed to lift much after surgery...so pack light!
  22. FIVE, 5 more days on the protein shakes and ONE, 1 more day of liquids and surgery June 3! (starting to feel a bit like Count Dracula..ah, ah, ah) LOL

  23. 6 more days on the protein shakes, 1 day of liquids and surgery June 3! The countdown is ON!

    Motivation.

Another way I use to try to stay motivated... I have an iPod that is dedicated specifically to "workout music". I make playlists that I only listen to when I workout....and I have several playlists to switch between. I start each playlist out with a slower song to warm up to...then move on to the ones with faster beats...ending with another slow song to cool down with. (I mainly use a treadmill, but also have a playlist for my spin bike. The newer iPod Nano (16G, 7th generation) also has a pedometer on it, so if walking is your thing...you'll know how far you've walked!

    Injured- Need A New Workout

I've had 4 foot surgeries (2 on each foot/ankle) to correct plantar fasciitis and over pronation (rolling my feet inward when i walk). I have a spin bike and have found that you can burn a TON of calories in each workout on it. Try a spin class. They will teach you how to set the bike up for your height and if you can't keep up with the group yet, just keep the pedals moving! I recommend that you pick a bike in the back of the room until you feel comfortable. If a spin bike isn't your style of biking...get on a recumbent bike where the seat is bigger and set it up to do a workout. (You can have it simulate hills too!) And to keep from getting too bored, bring a book and leave your watch at home! Also, by working the ankle without putting weight on it, it may loosen it up to where you feel you are able to return to the cardio workout that you love.
