curious.....whats your school of thought?
dma2013 replied to dma2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow thanks everyone! It seems like based on most of this feedback I am doing okay -
I usually try not to get involved in the negative threads, typically I just thinks its a waste of time. That said comments about OP have really disturbed me. We have all likely been the victim of being judged at one point or another and we know how it feels. This person turns to this page for support and advice and you judge her because she only had to lose 33 pounds? Shame on you for judging others and shame on you for not using this site for the intended purpose.

food in the throat feeling
dma2013 replied to cynthia t's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a stuck feeling in my throat, I told my NUT and she said that I might be "over-chewing" she said to chew small bites 5-6 times tops and I was chewing much more then that! I followed her instructions and I immediately felt better. -

Before & After 68 lbs to go!
dma2013 replied to felyn001's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You look great, congrats to you -
In my previous life I was a runner and I LOVED New Balance, they never let me down! Now I am not able to run but still wear New Balance, they are so comfortable and provide good support. All that said it really depends on you, your feet and your comfort. My husband will only wear Nike, so really it's a personal choice. I would say go try on a few different brands and styles and see what works best for you, but if you plan on running definitely get running sneakers. Good luck

I did it- i finally overhauled me closet!
dma2013 replied to diekoi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband took the kids out this afternoon (no doubt to buy Mothersday gifts at the last minute!) I jumped on the opportunity to clean out my closets. I was shocked at the amount of clothes that don't fir me 4 weeks out! More so I am shocked that the smaller clothes I have bought and never wore, most with tags, either fit or I suspect will fit in the next month or two! -
Due to a medical condition I am limited in the excercise I can do. Typically I walk and do the bike at the gym. However on the days I am not able to get out I bought a small trampoline, I watch tv and walk on it, time passes pretty quickly and it's easy on my joints. I tend to use it during a favorite show so that i stay focused.

I HAVE NEVER HIT A STALL

Meal replacement shakes?
dma2013 replied to need2bthin!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I buy premier protein shakes at Costco, they are ready to drink. They can be costly but I think it's well worth it. They are easy for on the go and are well mixed, no yucky after taste. Each serving is 30 grams of protein, 160 calories, 1 sugar and 5 carbs. I get 18 shakes for @ $24.00. -
Any Massachusetts Sleevers?
dma2013 replied to starr1202's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im from wilmington, sleeved 4/9/13 -
I was told that as a rule I should stay away from nasids however if I ever really needed one to take the gel form and it should be on very rare occasion. Check with your doctor though for instructions as every doctor has different rules.

I don't know that feeling yet but I hope to some day! Congrats

I was sleeved 4 weeks ago tomorrow on 4/9. The whole process was really easy for me, almost no pain from surgery, no gas pain, no nausea, I was able to walk right away it was all pretty easy. The first 9 days I dropped weigh fast, I went down 24 pounds which was amazing and scary at the same time as I was afraid it was "too good" so to speak. Unfortunately that seems to be the case, since that initial weight loss I have only lost 2 pounds. I know its not all about the pounds and I know its common to stall......but is this common? I never meausred myself but I know my body has changed so that is positive but I have to say I am concerned. A little about my history. I have NEVER been thin, I have always carried extra weight and it has been a mystery. I eat very healthy with an occasional (maybe once month) splurge on some type of junk food like chicken fingers, pizza or chinese food, but again it is very occasional. Up until 3 years ago I was weighing in the 160's, this was eating right almost al the time and running about 5 miles 4-5 times a week. Then I got sick and since that time my health has continued to decline, I am not physically able to run at all and excercise has to be strictly supervised and approved and thats only when i'm well enough to attempt to excercise. Fast forward to surgery day I weighed 220 pounds......the only thing that kept me in the 160's was my vigorous excercise. The surgery was to help relieve the pressure on my joints and hopefully make me feel better and be able to be more active and less tired. Now here I am today, wondering if even with this surgery, will I not be able to lose weight. I am anal about getting my fluids and Protein in, I am walking every day and doing the bike at the gym I am feeling very discouraged.....if anyone has been in a similar place I would love to hear your feedback.

Yes I was probably on the lower end, I am hoping that maybe I am a slow loser. Also I am trying to think that a total of 26 pounds over 4 weeks is good.....I would just love to see the scale move even a little
-
Very true, I will be happy if I start losing 2 pounds a week...thanks for your feedback!

This iuis very encouraging thank you...I kinda am feeling like I am "failing"

Calling All April Sleevers
dma2013 replied to KatieOkieDokie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved on April 9th and am doing well. I has hardly any pain and other then being extra tired I felt relatively normal. Pre- op included I have lost 26 pounds. However I have not lost ANYTHING in 10 days, I know this is usually to be expected but I wouldn't have minded seeing the scale move a pound or too I have been walking since the first day home, at first around the block once and now around the block 3-4 times a night. I have also started doing the bike at the gym as well as very very light weight circuit training. I feel all messed up with food, protein and water......I am getting 60 grams of protein, about 64 oz of water but I was told not to track calories yet. Looking forward to seein my NUT tomorrow, hopefully I will get some more guidance! -
I like the ready made premier protein shakes, I get them at costco.
-
I had my surgery on 4/4 and I have sailed through it. I had pain killers the first 2 days and that was it. I think resting a lot and walking in between helped me to do so well. Chap stick is a must and comfy clothes to go home in. Best wishes
-
My surgery is tomorrow too Best of luck to you!!!

I had a difficult time getting approved, I too have a lower bmi. The third time when we submitted the paperwork and was denied again, my husband went to his HR manager at work explained the situation and I was approved about 36 hours later.
