I learned today that I will require a revision due to having severe reflux which has caused barrettes disease. In regards to my weight, I do not need the surgery but I am 8 pounds above my most consistent weight and in total I’d like to lose 15-20 pounds. I didn’t ask any questions I just listened. I was wondering if anyone had similar circumstances? If so is the pre-op and post op similar to the initial surgery? How many days were you in the hospital? I would appreciate any feedback others could offer. Thank you!

This is so helpful, thank you! Did you have to do the same preop prep? I appreciate your feedback 😊 -

I had my VSG on 4/8/2013. I lost @50 pounds and gained back about 20. I have several underlying medical issues which complicate my exercise but overall I am usually good with my food intake. Over the last year, I have developed what I think is acid reflux. It is so bad that I can't lie down and my healthy eating is now becoming more bland carb-focused because that's what I tolerate best. Even drinking a protein shake can be bothersome. I have NEVER experienced this before, not during any of my 3 pregnancies or at my heaviest weight. I am miserable! I have tried over-the-counter acid reducers and eat tums like candy. I finally talked to my PCP about this yesterday, she is sending me to a GI doctor. She mentioned she wasn't sure what my anatomy would be like now. That caused me to wonder if I should actually see a bariatric surgeon? I of course started to google and found that this can happen even so long out of surgery and that sometimes revision can fix it. Honestly, I don't hate this idea as id like to lose more weight but more so I just want to feel better. My BMI is 32.1 and I have the same insurance as I did 9 years ago. I'm clearly jumping ahead of myself but was wondering if anyone has experience with anything like this?

So, I have had quite an adventure since having my surgery almost 4 years ago. In addition to living with lupus and copd, I needed a hysterectomy and had complications from it. My husband was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago and struggled for a bit but is better now. My 9 year old son required what would thought would be a simple hand surgery but of course it was not! Needless to say things have been a bit crazy and very very busy! Though I have stayed on track with my food choices I have been really bad at remembering to eat and I am not getting enough Protein or Water. My exercise has been intermittent when I find the time. So now, things are calmer but I have put on 15 pounds, considering I never got to my goal weight this is not good. I have decided it's time for me and time to do this! This week I will do 5 small (measured) meals a day and get my protein in. I also will do better with my water! I am considering doing 2 weeks on liquids but I'm not sure if I should do I thought I'd start with the 5 little meals. I will also start trying to exercise each day if only for a short time. I am determined to get this 15 pounds off and eventually reach my goal weight! This board has served as a good support to me in the past so I thought I'd use it again! I hope to make some virtual friends so we can help each other! T Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had the sleeve surgery in April of 2013. I have several medical issues that were worse when I was heavier but not caused by obesity. My surgeon and other doctors are happy with my success but I am not. Initially I did very well with my food and I exercised as much as I was able given my physical restrictions. Given the effort I put in I would have expected more weight loss. I know its just a number, but it does mean something. This past fall my husband was diagnosed with cancer. Having 3 kids, a house to maintain, a business to run and a husband who had multiple surgeries, recoveries and treatment has been all consuming. I really slacked off on taking care of myself. Thankfully I never started eating bad foods however I stopped paying attention to food. Some days I would simply not eat, other days I would finally stop at 9 in the evening and be starving! I have not been tracking or focusing on getting Protein, Water veggies....I just eat what's relatively healthy and easy. Exercise has not been happening hardly at all....I am a mess and I have gained 13 pounds Now that things are settling down a bit and my husband is better met with my nutritionist this morning and I am going to "start over". I will eat 6 very small high protein meals a day, drink more water and exercising again. My goal is to lose a total of 25-35 pounds and to just feel better! I would love to hear from people who may have got off track and started over!

My best friend gave me 2 boxes full of tons of clothes! I was trying them on yesterday and I was happy when the size 10's seemed extra comfortable. I had tried on one pair of jeans that I really liked and though they zipped and buttoned with ease they weren't quite as roomy. None the less I liked the way they looked best so I decided to put them on for the day and I realized that they were a size 8!!! I was shocked, I have no idea when I was a size 8 before, I assumed it must be the jeans, so I looked through the box and found another pair of size 8, again they zipped with ease. I was cautiously excited but still thinking that it was just the luck of the jeans. So my husband and I went shopping, I tried on 4 different pairs of pants all a size 8 and all fit me!!! Of course some fit better then others but they all buttoned and zipped with ease. I can't believe that I am in a size 8 I have been a pretty slow but steady loser so for me this is an accomplishment, I wasn't sure that I would even make it to single digit clothes. My ultimate goal would be to wear a size 6 and now I am feeling like slow but steady might get me there, even if I take longer then others! I love these NSV's thanks for letting me share

dma2013 replied to rhondafranklin03's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I only drink premier ready made shakes. They are a little bit more expensive, but in my opinion well worth it Don't give up you really need to get the Protein in! -
What's Your Plan For Thanksgiving Dinner?
dma2013 replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been cooking and preparing all day! I LOVE Thanksgiving, the family, the chaos the memories. I will enjoy some turkey, steamed veggies and a strawberry cool whip dessert. There will be lots of other choices but I will not be indulging I am focused -
My nutritionist tells me NOT to add the extra "earned" calories from exercise but that I should definitely goal calories.

Before or After Question
dma2013 replied to j morgan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I were you I would definitely NOT postpone your surgery. In truth you should be practicing good habits right up until you have surgery, so you really shouldn't be eating too many goodies any way Plus all the walking and site seeing will be good for you post-op and like you said you will probably feel better with a little weight off. I hope I don't sound "preachy" just trying to give my honest opinion. -
This is a free site full of an overwhelming amount of support and resources. I am happy to have this site to visit, get advice and opinions. Should it need to be fixed or what not I will choose to be patient as its resolved. Again this is a free site....

Off site for awhile...and my fitness pal!
dma2013 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sick for almost 4 weeks, my husband just had his tonsils out on Monday and my son was taken to the ER today. Needless to say it has been very crazy in our house. Sadly I have kind of lost touch with VST but now I am back. Probably about a year ago I signed up for My fitness pal but never actually used it. I looked into it a little more this past week and started actually using it and I love it. Unfortunately being sick has kept me at a steady weight, which is better then gaining I suppose. Plus I was on steroids for 21 days so all in all I consider no gain a really good thing! I was able to do one yoga class and I will be slowly doing more exercise this week and am hoping to get back to the gym and yoga at my regular pace by the end of October. I am looking forward to doing better tracking of my food and exercise with MFP. If you are on MFP and want to "friend" me my name is dawnmich! Hope all is well -

Been there in fact not so long ago I posted about going to a yoga class and feeling comfortable for the first time. I agree with most of the above. My gym has personal training classes so it's 3-5 people with 1 personal trainer showing us how to use the machines and what is best for us. Something like that may be good for you to learn the machines but also to meet other people. You have made a very positive change in your life, the gym is another step in that process. Be proud and as hard as it may be try to remember you are at the gym for yourself and to reach your goals You can do it!

Halloween Weight loss Challenge

Great idea!!! Count me in ......current weight is 159 I will aim for 149! -
I use the premier protein shakes as well. I have the luxury of having an absolutely ridiculous amount of very thick hair. I followed my plan to the tee but still lost a ton of hair @2-3 months out. I am still losing it but not as much. Given the amount of hair I have I didn't stress to much about it. However my NUT told me to minimize hair loss that at week 6 to make sure I get all my protein plus maybe 10-15 grams extra and to never forget my vitamins. Some people on this site suggest biotin and it seems to get mixed reviews. My best advice would be to keep getting your protein in, unfortunately it is bound to happen but hopefully not too much!

Since surgery I have made mini goals for myself, nothing crazy but just things to look forward too I have accomplished 3 in recent days! 1. I wanted to spend less than $150.00 on clothes for the spring and summer. I bought size larges in the spring, they were a little snug but fit. I bought 5 simple dresses and 6 tee-shirts and I had some clothes that were too small for me. In the end I only spent $120.00 and made it through the summer although all the clothes are now too big on me. 2. I have been dying to be in a size medium, not sure why but this has been a goal. I swore to my husband while at target yesterday that there was absolutely no way the medium shirts would fit me. Sure enough they fit very comfortable....looking at them they seem so small I can't believe I fit into them!!! 3. This one is really kind of stupid but maybe you can relate. With all my weight issues I have found being near a mirror very offensive to me and anyone else who could see me. The Target that I frequent has the dreaded register 8 where there is a great big mirror that's right in front of you and you have to see yourself. I made the mistake of going in it once a few years ago and NEVER again! I didn't care I the line was empty and I had to wait behind 6 other customers at another register I would not go in aisle 8. Well last night I did it I checked out in aisle 8 and though I will admit I did my best not to look directly in the mirror I did make it through the cashier. Yes it's stupid and maybe even superficial but to me its an accomplishment. I hope everyone is enjoying reaching little and big milestones on this journey, the little things are worth celebrating!

Best and worst "compliments"
dma2013 replied to Healthier2day1227's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My absolute favorite is very simple....my very best friend and person I admire the most in the world said to me your doing really good.....simple but means a lot. Also, when I saw my surgeon last time, he is always very encouraging but he hugged me and said I'm proud of you. Nothing has really bothered me, I feel like anything said to me has been said with good intentions so I receive it that way.
