    What is Polenta?

Polenta is a grain, I'd be a little wary of it at that stage as it would be like eating cornbread to your stomach.

    Eggs

I have no problem with the whole egg. Never had to just eat egg whites, which is good since I like the yolk!
  3. Cute picture! My husband decided to take this journey with me as well, without surgery. He really only needed to lose 60 pounds where I need to lose 125 (66 down, 59 to go!) It has really helped because now I don't worry about what to make to please the family and then something healthy for me. The whole family is eating better now and actually enjoying it. Was a little hard for him when I passed by him in weight and was smaller than him for the first time but he's accepting it now that I'm going to lose faster than him because in the end he benefits with a hot mama (I hope!) He is frustrated that he's only lost 30 to my 66 but I'm proud of him because usually at this point he'd give up and start sliding down that path again and instead he's continuing to eat healthy and ride out the stall. Good luck to the two of you on keeping each other sane on this journey.

    how does this play out?

I'm not a long term sleeved either but I have to agree on the acid blocker. I had issues with getting my omeprazole prescription filled as insurance didn't like the way the prescription was written so I went a couple of weeks without it and had the same hunger pangs. A friend told me it was acid and sure enough, once I got on the meds, the pangs went away. I don't feel hunger but I can tell my energy level declines when I've waited too long to eat.

    suggestions?

I agree with those who say you can drive. My doctor also said driving was fine once off pain meds. You will need that quiet time without a toddler for a few days.

Clothes purging Pre op...Save me from myself!

I purged 5 black trash bags of clothes from my closet two weeks before surgery and I don't regret it. I kept anything that still fit, (I had lost 22 pounds by then). If it was something that may fit but was not something I would want to wear it was gone too. Gave me room for those smaller sizes I planned to buy at the thrift store plus once I donated the old clothes I got two discount coupons to use at the thrift store. But the real success of the purge was going through the clothes one by one and realizing this isn't me anymore. I'm not accepting hand me downs or buying clothes anymore just because they're the right size. I purged that fat me that day and accepted that this was the start of a new life and a new me and there's no looking back.
  7. You have to read it as being monitored FOR three months. So your first appointment starts the clock, second appointment marks first month, third appointment marks second month, etc.
  8. My mother in law said the same kind of thing to me pre surgery and now that I'm post surgery she's saying 'you've lost enough weight you can stop now and be just fine.' Excuse me but I'm not going to take a major step like this and just stop! I haven't even made it to Onederland yet!

    Need advice for sugar addiction

I had the same issue and presurgery goal. I wanted something sweet with every meal, including breakfast, plus sweets in between. I began by replacing my multiple diet mountain dews with crystal light. This was actually easier than I thought it would be because I loved carbonation too. And the crystal light did not leave me with the same sweet craving pop did. I also started buying more fruit to have when a sweet craving hit. My faves were bananas apples and mandarin oranges. And of course stopped buying chocolate 'for my kids' that I ate the majority of. It really worked well for me and I got past the craving faster than I thought I could. I would still have the occasional cupcake or other sweet but was able to be satisfied with just one splurge and am still doing well post surgery. If I crave a sweet now I can have a bite or two and be ok instead of obsessing on sweets the rest of the day.

    Treated differently?

Yes, I have noticed instances where I have been treated differently. I think it's a two pronged issue. One is that as I lose weight and become more 'normal' looking I think people are more comfortable talking to me and people working in service industries are generally more helpful. The second prong is that I am more confident in myself and am probably projecting a more approachable attitude.

    white chicken soup

Found this on Pinterest and it was very good. 1 rotisserie chicken 1 can white Beans (I used cannelini but next time will try navy beans) 1/2 onion, chopped Four cups chicken broth 1 can cream of chicken Soup Salt and Pepper to taste White cheese (I used monterrey jack) Mix broth and cream soup til well blended and add onions. Heat til onions are tender. (next time I'll saute the onions ahead to make them more tender or even leave them out). Dice up chicken and add chicken and beans to soup and heat til all ingredients are warmed through. Add cheese to soup as garnish in bowl. Was very good, Protein based, and very versatile. Could really alter to suit your taste.

    Kansas City Area Sleevers?

Darn it, already can tell I won't make the next one either. Daughter has an event in Raytown and son and I have an event in Liberty that day. Not sure how to be in two places at once, let alone three!

    Injury but cant take ibuprophen

NDAIDs can potentially cause ulcers in sleeved stomachs. My doctor said if you have to take one, take it with Prilosec, which will protect the stomach.

    Kansas City Area Sleevers?

I would love to attend but not sure if I can make it that weekend. I'll hopefully be able to meet with you soon.

    RECOMMENDED MUST HAVES?

I just got an immersion blender which has been great for both soups and protein shakes. My must have was plenty of the snack size Gladware. They hold 4 oz. and are so convenient for portioning out your food. I don't like measuring so I put my food in these little cups because I know I can't eat more than that. I also used them in the liquid phase to make my own jello and preportion it out.

When Can I Start Yoga Post-Op?

Forgot to say I'm exactly 3 weeks out today as well.

When Can I Start Yoga Post-Op?

I asked my doctor about both taekwondo and yoga and he said 2-4 weeks, depending on how you feel and when you think your body is ready. I've started back to taekwondo as of yesterday and I'm doing well after 2 classes. Haven't started yoga back yet, but only because I do that on Fridays. Just take it easy and modify where you need to.

    Back to Taekwondo!

Thanks Susie. My son has been in tkd for 4 years and I've always been jealous of the other parents who were taking class. I hate walking so this is a great fit for me plus I have so many friends here they are my support group through this.

    Back to Taekwondo!

I'm three weeks out from surgery as of today, and my doctor told me I could go back to my yoga and taekwondo classes anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks. Decided to give it a shot last night and I survived! Skipping all the self defense and sparring, of course, for another month so that I don't take any kicks to the abdomen, or get thrown to the floor, but just the workout itself and forms work was great. I've felt so tired for the last few weeks, and have been stalled for a week as well. I've never been one to enjoy excercise but it just felt so good to get back on the floor and show that I could do it. Bonus was I finally lost a pound overnight! Not being too sore from Taekwondo plus breaking a stall makes for a great morning!
