I told my husband when we were on the beach today that I was looking forward to going to the beach next year in a smallwer suit. He said he was saving up 'cuz he figured in a couple of years, I'd want to lift everything. LOL Smart man.

My long term goals... Get crazy fit like I used to be. Resting heart rate in the 40's. Able to run for hours without feeling like I'm going to croak. The fitness model body I was well on my way to having wouldn't hurt my feelings. But that would be a happy side benefit. Would like to be able to do pullups with weight tied to my waist. Want to get on the elliptical and "run" flat out for 45 minutes without getting my heart rate above maximum. Want to pick up a 50 pound bag of dogfood one handed again. Used to be this fit. Miss it.

toxins leaving as the weight goes?

Try walking lunges to increase your weak leg. Start with the weak one and only do as many as your weak leg can do. It'll come up. Never do more on your stronger leg or that side will stay stronger. Watch your form. Keep lower natural curve in your back. If you round your back or exaggerate the lower curve, you can hurt your back if you have weights on your shoulders. Take it slow and easy til you get used to the form.

Triceps dips using a bench as well as a machine for this to do hanging body as you can. They'll help with shoulders and upper part of chest as well as triceps. Compound movements for your entire upper body will help. Shoulder shrugs, upright rows and yes, back and chest strengthening will help too. Entire core needs to be strong to increase this kind of movement. edit - make sure you're working with negative reps as well. This will show good gains in strength using your current weights.

Psych Eval Gone Wrong
sknyinside replied to TheOldMeAgain's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not in exactly your situation. However, I have to wait 6 months due to insurance requirements. So, similar I guess. I was frustrated at first and wanted to buck the system. But then I decided to look at this as a good thing. It is giving me time to work on behavior modifications now. Have started eating without drinking at the same time. Have started counting my chewing and slowing down my meals. Recognizing when I want an inappropriate food choice and more importantly WHY I want an inappropriate food choice. I am hoping that when I do get my sleeve, it will make the life alterations and adjustments that will be necessary less ginormous. Am sure this doesn't help with your frame of mind right now. I understand wanting it now. But if it's impossible to have now, maybe there's a reason that will be to your benefit? Good luck. Wish you the best whichever way it goes! -
weight gain 13days post op?
sknyinside replied to caramellhoney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is almost physically impossible to gain two pounds of fat in one day. Especially with the sleeve. I echo the above posters, Water weight gain. Any number of reasons, but it is likely the culprit. As long as you are following your plan, I couldn't see it being anything else. Also, if you've had a thyroidectomy, you will want to check in with your endocrinologist or whoever is following your thyroid hormone levels. As you lose weight, your blood levels will need to be checked and you may need adjustments in your hormonies. -
Wanting to cry
sknyinside replied to SkinnyScrapper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, sounds about as sensitive as my in-laws! LOL So sorry you had to go through that. I'd just toss the chocolates and move on. It's usually difficult for people this insensitive to grasp that what they're doing is not okay. -
Oh I so hope I get approved. Today has been hard. Had to go get a new swimsuit today, cuz my other one is many years old and literally falling apart. At one point, I was literally in the store fighting back tears as I tried to find a suit to even try on. After a couple of hours of humilition I did find something to wear. Jeez, it just shouldn't be that emotionally draining. Completely demoralizing and humiliating. Congrats to all those on your way and those newly approved. I will be shouting from the rooftops if/when approved!

Well, I got the phone call today that insurance approved me!
sknyinside replied to endless80's topic in The Guys’ Room
Congrats! Huge news for you, I know. I'm still jumping through hoops. Will be for another few months before I find out if I'm approved. Had my sleep study which was ridiculous as I already had a c-pap. Upper GI, psych testing done. Still have to get cleared by GI doc. Have to have bloodwork done in September. Have been seeing nutitionist and PCP for supervised diet with a few more months of that to go. Then clearance from primary MD will be required. THEN I meet my surgeon and submit for approval with fingers crossed. -
Thank you jacquie! I have my fingers crossed. Am doing all the hoops required by my insurance. Hoping it's not all for nothing. I want to be the mom who can get on rides and go to the beach and ride bikes without a second thought. Kids are growing up so fast. Want it to happen before it's too late! Thanks for your prayers.

How to convince my dad that surgery in Mexico is not a scam?
sknyinside replied to supbanana's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Would he or you feel better if he could travel with you? -
Wow. Totally didn't think about coconut oil and I use it for EVERYTHING! I second that recommendation! LOL I love the unfiltered because of the yummy coconut smell.

Dizziness and Sleepiness!
sknyinside replied to MaddieJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may be just the drastic reduction in calories. It will reduce your energy levels and can, I imagine, cause dizziness. I agree with mariamitani you may need to get checked out. At least a call to your doctor to verify this is expected. -
Is it the incision sites? Or is it all over the stomach? A friend of mine who has gone through the surgery has found that as she has lost weight, she is very dry and itchy. Uses a good lotion - CeraVe - and hasn't had issues since. But if she misses a day, it's itch city again. Don't know if it is the skin after being stretched, becoming looser or if it is a hormonal shift with the weight loss. Less fat = less estrogen. If it's the incision sites, are they well healed? Pink?

I haven't had the sleeve yet. But, I have a very plentiful supply of friends and co-workers who have had it done. All have had varying amounts of success. It really depends on "getting your head right" and once you get to that 50-60% mark realizing you may have to count calories or do a more traditional weight loss plan. The sleeve is one tool. It is not the end all, be all for many people. This is coming from my observations and what has been relayed to me by the people in my life who are a very valued support system with many different views. This seems to be the general consensus. The ones who are really getting to their goal are working hard. But they report feeling really good and having more energy to put towards working for it. Also, the emotional aspect helps as they are not so demoralized and ashamed to go to a gym. And more than one of these people were in excess of 400 pounds. It's very achievable, but may take hard work.

Dizziness and Sleepiness!
sknyinside replied to MaddieJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are absolutely sure about your fluid intake, are you on any blood pressure meds which may be lowering it too much? And is blood sugar an issue for you? If you're getting enough protein, are you getting some carbs? Not crazy amounts or anything, but really low carb can cause some of that especially if it's sudden. Just random thoughts from someone who has not been sleeved yet. -
totally understandable. LOL our bodies are amazing things

I know exactly how you feel. Am on vacation at the beach right now. I hate putting on a swimsuit and trying to wade through the sand to find a spot that has relatively few people to watch the spectacle that is me getting up and down to go into the Water and back out. I'm looking at late September, early October for surgery (if insurance approves). Hoping next year will be less self-conscious at the beach. I had to have a break from the embarrassment and am holed up in the camper right now. Will try to work up the gumption to humiliate myself further later today for another go-round. Just the bike ride to the beach is embarassing as I am huffing and puffing to the boardwalk. edit - jeez that sounds horrible upon re-reading. Not usually so self-flagellating. But truly, wearing a swimsuit in public kinda brings out the worst.

your body still breaks down and removes materials from your body. Have seen people who haven't eaten in weeks have large volume stools which was shocking to family members. As stool sits in the colon, Water is removed which caues the stool to be thicker and have some more "solid" pieces. This is at least part of it. I'm sure there are other reasons I'm not well versed in.

Any October sleevers?
sknyinside replied to beachgirlaz52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am probably October. Don't have a date but should be late September or October. -
Are you home or in the hospital? If it is that bad, you may want to check with MD to see if that is a normal amount of pain. I haven't had it yet, but that seems excessive. Call them. It will put your mind at ease if nothing else. Have you taken pain killers? Is the pain relieved by meds? Does it get worse after drinking something? Do you have fever or elevated heart rate?

DH does stand for Dear Husband - or D*ck Head depending on whether or not he's irritating me.
