About Me
Hi, My name is Melanie. I am 31 yrs old. I have been married to my husband for 8yrs and have two beautiful children ages 5 and 3. I work part time as a Registered Nurse. I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. My weight got out of control when we started doing infertility treatments for 2 ½ yrs to conceive our son. I gained 60 lbs in this period. Then another 20lbs when I was pregnant. I was able to get 10lbs off for 2yrs then we decided to have another. I gained another 15lbs doing infertility and 25lbs during pregnancy. This time I was not able to get any of it off and my weight kept going up even when dieting and exercising.
I have hypothyroid and PCOS which has made it hard for me to lose weight. I have tried everything. Six months after my daughter was born I made a deal with myself. I would go full force with diet and exercise; try as hard as I possibly could. If then I was once again unsuccessful I would look seriously into weight loss surgery. Well for 2 ½ yrs I did bootcamp, TRX, took up jog walking, did 3 5k’s, visited a nutritionist, spent hundreds on personal training and lifestyle coaching all to gain weight.
So that brings me here. I decided to have the vertical sleeve. I have thought about weight loss surgery off and on for 6 yrs. This time I was serious. I knew it was what I needed to change.
What do I hope to gain from my surgery and weight loss:
To be healthy.
To be active.
To run a 5k without stopping to walk.
To live my life.
To feel comfortable in my own skin.
To play fully with my kids.
To set a good example for them.
To love shopping again.
