Back at Work & I had an increase in my appetite

I felt hunger the first few days. Now I do not feel hungry at all. Are you sure that you are not feeling more of a somatic response to old behaviors? It is comforting to pack a lunch (I used to do) with all the little goodies we like to treat ourselves with. You shouldn't feel hungry at all. I am 11 days out and am not hungry at all unless I am low on protein and then I feel "cloudy" at which point I will grab an Atkins shake or make a protein smoothie. That is how I know I need to eat something at this point. The remaining 90% of the time is just sheer mental lust for food.

    Nervous about surgery in Mexico

I had my lapband in Mexico - 2008 I had my revision to sleeve in Mexico - 11 days post op I have also many of my friends who have either had plastic surgery, lapbands or revisions as well. Even if I had the money and the time to go to a US doctor, I will be quite honest...I would still have chosen my doctor in Mexico. Many of the top Mexican doctors have been performing these surgeries on a daily basis for years. They have perfected the surgery. I was in and out of my revision in just over an hour, which to me is amazing at how just dang efficient they are. I am thrilled with my results and only now wish I had done this last year.
  3. you sound excited and happy. that is the how I felt and I do believe it made my recovery extremely easier. Attitude is everything. congratulations!

    weight loss first month

I am 9 days Post-Op and am down 15 lbs. I was told I cannot begin 'working out' (high impact cardio, running, etc) until week 6 and then to start out light. I am still on soups, smoothies, etc for another 8 days then I transition to soft, pureed foods.

    Telling other people

I work with a bunch of gossipy busy bodies. I didn't tell any of them. They just think I went to San Diego My sister knew afterwards My three best friends who are also lapband buddies knew beforehand and were excited My husband and kids knew That is it. People by nature are judgmental, it is up to you about how much you want to share.
  10. This is a good example. So as I was leaving on this past sunday (5/12) , they just had a 600 lb man come in for surgery, which is scheduled for today (ironically) . His wife (who I thought was also a candidate and was eating Chinese food in front of her poor husband) said that they (Dr Fernando Garcia's Team) required him to be in the hospital five days before surgery so they could monitor him and he would be on a medically induced diet. I would think that if they are going to turn you down it is because either an underlying health issue (heart, etc) came up OR a person was dishonest on their forms they filled out and they got caught.
  11. catheter? I never had one of those. that does not sound pleasant The drain is a pain was my mantra, but once it was removed, it became easier to move around

Week 3 Post Op- Difficult for me

I have found the hardest for me is the "mental" aspect. I am only a week out, but I find myself automatically putting things in my mouth when I am cooking for my kids. You can do this!!! I really hope you start to feel better because you sound so sad and depressed. I hope that even three weeks from now as you settle into the routine of new sleever, your warrior spirit kicks in and you can say to yourself "I got this!" Will be thinking of you

    Sooo hungry!

My instructions said I can start eating creamy Soups on Day 4 So I made some cream of mushroom just to try. I whipped it in my Blendtec before heating it up to be sure there was NO bits of anything. Then I added almond milk. I had 1/2 cup over an hour and felt almost relieved. You could try taking one spoonful of greek yogurt and really swish it around in your mouth first. Congrats!! we were sleeved on the same day and I am down 12 lbs in five days.

    Enjoying the Sun and pool

I just left the TJ Marriott on Monday. I did NOT go to the pool, although I wish I had now. I was by myself and did not do any touristy things with my poor swollen tummy, I was concerned about being jostled. The Marriott pool is beautiful. I was actually tired from constantly being woken up in the middle of the night being checked on for vitals and nurses. So the second I got to the hotel, I wrapped my heating pad around my tummy and fell asleep watching a movie. It was wonderful. Everyone is different. I did bring my swimsuit. But maybe play it by ear and see where your energy level is when you get there.

Did it! Now sleeved by Dr Fernando Garcia

Dr Garcia primarily does surgery out of Oasis/Florence Hospital. It was a nice (VERY quiet) hospital. All the current machines, etc. The Dr Garcia TEAM is amazing. Dr Luna is the most loving, caring, handsome man I have ever come across in the medical field. Dr Cabrera and the others were just as great. You should watch his videos on YouTube. That helped seal it for me. I have been across the border a few times. It really is no big deal. I actually LIKE Tijuana and have been there probably 6 times in the past few years. I was across the border with Samuel in 35 minutes and we did not even use the medical line

Amen Sleeve Sister! I am loving my life and I am only on Day 5

Did it! Now sleeved by Dr Fernando Garcia

I am very happy with choosing Dr Garcia. The entire team is amazing. I am a low BMI and even my first day was a bit tough to get through, however, whenever I requested a pain medication or help, someone was right there. I do not expect the next three weeks to be a walk in the park, but I am going to enjoy the ride and relearn healthy behaviors. My first big baby steps is to get through the bloat in my gut (which is uncomfortable)and making sure to sip, sip, sip all the time. I think I did great today and would guess my liquid intake is around 50 ozs so far today. Dr Luna said to work towards 64 ozs, so that will be a good challenge to get to. I am staying in the SD area one more day and won't be flying out until Tuesday to go home. My advice to anyone doing this is DO NOT PUSH yourself. Do not try to be superwoman/superman. Give yourself time to heal and be close to the doctors. Don't plan on racing back to work either. I have no intention on heading into work with my 8-month pregnant looking belly. hoping by tomorrow it looks better. There were actually two people at the hospital today who are so antsy to get out of the hospital. What is the damn rush? I just don't get it. My other word of advice. When the doctors TELL you to not smoke before and after surgery. For the love of god, just stop. You have no idea the health risks you are putting yourself into. Embolisms, blood clots DO happen. Staples and incisions do not heal properly. You run into a higher incidence of damaged tissue and leaks happening. It is really a head shaker. Have a good night. TTYL

Finally a New Wardrobe is in Order.

Chris Christie had lapband in February

Good for him! Men seem to do much better with their lapbands than women do. I despise mine, but then, mine began failing two years ago. I love Chris Christie and have cringed everytime someone makes a fat joke. At least he is attempting to do something

    Bodybuilders?

    Bodybuilders?

you may also find that if you are doing such low protein, watch for signs such as feeling "foggy" and cranky. It will mean you need to increase your protein intake. When you are building lean muscle mass protein is super important! My trainer always had me do ALL of my carbs by 2:00 PM, so they would power me through the remainder of the day and burn off. here is a good article: http://www.oxygenmag.com/Health/Articles/Power-Packed-Protein.aspx

    Bodybuilders?

LOVE reading this. I have thought alot about doing physique again. Do you ever read Oxygen? There are a couple of the bodybuilder/fitness buffs I follow and want to follow their plans. My personal trainer had me on a 51% Protein, 31% carb and 18% fat ratio. I was seeing amazing results until I got pneumonia and my lapband failed I would decrease your carb ratio and increase your protein...but that is just based on what I was personally seeing in my stats. Yoga is fantastic for "leaning" out your muscle mass. It will be fun to read how you progress!
  25. how have you done otherwise? are you feeling better? Tired? Losing weight? Do you think it is "head hunger"?
