  1. Going to Mexico is not bad. In fact, the Mexican doctors have a longer successful history of sleeve surgeries than the US doctors. The issue is the MS My mother had MS and what I would be concerned about is having some type of relapse or issue after the surgery and before you are able to get back into the states. You also need to contact your insurance company and find out how this would affect your coverage. Some insurance policies will not cover you out of the country....I know specifically mine does...but it is something you need to review entirely before doing it. Good luck.

Help, Ladies! Yeast infections since surgery! OMG, TMI!

You HAVE to get some healthy bacteria into your body. Kefir is a probiotic and tastes like a yogurt smoothie Greek Yogurt is extremely high in Acidopholus and probiotic nutrients. NatureMade makes a Triple Probiotic vitamin that is new. I would look for it at a walmart or drugstore. eating yogurt only 2x per week will not help...you MUST increase your intake or supplement daily with a probiotic vitamin Probiotics are a powerful ally against yeast overgrowth. All that beneficial bacteria helps control the yeast and keeps things healthy – and this is especially true if you are taking antibiotics. Don’t wait until your round of antibiotics is over to start taking probiotics; begin right away, so that as the antibiotics are killing off all of the bacteria inside you (good and bad alike), you are replenishing the good bacteria. Many people find that they develop yeast infections during or just after taking antibiotics. Probiotics are the solution here. Probiotic capsules will work, but so will eating lots of plain yogurt or other cultured foods and drinks, such as lacto-fermented pickles and kombucha. Personally, I take a probiotic capsule everyday, and I also include cultured foods in my diet on a regular basis. 2) Cut Out the Sugar This sounds simple: sugar feeds yeast. If you have a yeast infection, cut out the sugar from your diet. I would begin this immediately and also begin googling yeast infections and read, read, read. you will find that yeast infections are LITERALLY mostly because of DIET. you need to reavaluate your diet and get it "clean"...in other words, eating a clean diet will be your best ammunition. 3. As an extremely happy and satisfied patient, I will sing the praises of Dr Garcia and the entire team forever. They are caring, loving and always on top of any questions. I have voluntarily decided to take a leave of absence from my job (I have an extremely demanding job) for 2-4 months and Dr Garcia, Ana, Irene and Alma have all jumped into to provide an official letter to facilitate the process. You have NO idea how helpful this is for my primary doctor and I as we fight Aetna for my short term pay Do not be scared and if you have any questions ask those of us who had our surgeries with him. You will not be disappointed. I only wish I had done this surgery last year instead of waiting.
  4. LOL Steph...how on earth did you not have a passport? Do you know how lucky you are the guards did not ask for it? I have been to TJ at least six times in the past two years and 5/6 times I had to show my passport. You best be buying some lotto tickets sweetie.

    Cigarettes and surgery....

LoneStar The other thing that I failed to mention is the SMELL...I got behind someone smoking last week and normally it would not bother me, in fact, I would sniff the residual (sounds weird)....but this time, I literally gagged...leaped 6 feet to the left to get the hell out of the drifting smoke and immediately felt NAUSEOUS. I have not been able to tolerate the SMELL of anyone smoking now. you might find that after your surgery the tar and nicotine irritate your stomach and make it impossible to smoke due to immediate illness. Just do not be surprised by anything your jellybean is capable of

HELP! Why am I so itchy?

No allergies...well, to alfalfa, but as long as I stay away from Idaho in June I am fine I am leaning towards the comment from Mistysj about the Vitamin B12 The problem is it is not just on my hands, it has happened on my arms and my armpits as well to the point I have created welts from scratching so hard. I just found out that when our stomach is cut off that we lose our ability to create the "Intrinsic Factor" quite fascinating and I encourage everyone to google it Thank you Mistysj!!!!!!! I am looking into Vitamin B12 shots and will be calling my doctor tomorrow to see if they can do them, otherwise I will have to go to a Naturopathic. I have increased my Vitamin B12 to 5000 MG the past few days and the itching has stopped. I think getting shots once a week would be helpful as well.

    Cigarettes and surgery....

It will be hard!! Here is a post topic I made last week: I began smoking just before my neurosurgery in 2009. I think it was just plain NERVES. then I got the job from hell at Raytheon in November 2009 and was smoking 1-2 packs a day at times. (no longer work there!) I am now three weeks out. cold turkey. This is a great reminder for me as to why I am not smoking ever again. I am also proud of the fact that I am giving my body a wonderful opportunity to heal itself as I am almost 14 days pre-op. thought I would share because the information is powerful. Good luck to anyone considering the surgery and having a hard time quitting. Do it for your health and your cute soon-to-be-jellybean. Where to find statistics?

You will not find medical "statistics" ...the reason being is that the medical industry has only done the lapband and gastric sleeve against a five and ten year standard. The sleeve is only 7-8 years out, so there is no 10 year data yet. When they compared the lapband to the sleeve at the 5-year mark, they discovered that the lapband has provided a 50-70% of bodyweight weight loss - in other words, someone who wants to lose 70 lbs will only see 50-70% of that actually happen. That is the standard for 60% of the lapband population so they consider that a 60% success rate. 40% would be considered a failure (that would be me) due to no fault of their own (think slippage, metabolic failure, erosion, etc) At the 5-year mark, the sleeve was coming in at a 75-90% success rate over long term. The 10-year study will be out in the next two years I interviewed my fill doctor here in washington state extensively back in February before making my decision to remove my lapband and have a gastric sleeve.

A friend of mine had gastric and she is really pissing me off.

I would also hand her over your state WAC statutes on FRAUD into her hot little hands and see what she says

A friend of mine had gastric and she is really pissing me off.

you could make an anonymous tip to your state attorney generals office. I was pre-law in college and I assure you, this is outright fraud They will at least have a discussion with her about faulty pretenses, etc. if you do not do it, someone else will eventually report her. It makes me mad to even read what she is doing I would also encourage you to go onto your states attorney general website and begin reading about what constitutes a fraud and what/how the state handles this issue. not only will it make you feel better, but you will know you are making the right decision by reporting her

    My Mexico Story

I was getting ready to leave as Peter arrived (sunday, May 12). His wife told me that he had to be there in advance for surgery on Friday to be monitored. This was truly their last hope is how she said it to me. I have done nothing but thought of them since leaving. I am so thankful you have updated us on them and I am relieved to hear that Peter made it through the surgery okay. my dear friend had surgery with a 75 BMI and I know how hard it initially was for her. Peter, if you read this...you have had ALOT of silent warriors wishing you well on your journey. keep up with the fighting spirit! Good luck to you too MayBaby I am now 15 days out and feel good. I however was NOT expecting the four seasons, so I think we Americans get spoiled with everything having to be new, new, new all the time. The care of the team was the best I have had of a hospital experience (I should know, I spent a week at UCSF for neurosurgery), 1940s interior or not. Thank you!!! for the reading list. that is fantastic I miss Dr Luna like crazy and would have taken him home if I could have

Self Pay For Band To Sleeve?

No. I have followed the RULES explicitely - which means sip, sip, sip and Soup, soup, soup the first 20 days. I have no intention on being the reason through my own stupidity for causing a leak or tearing a stitch. Is it easy? Hell no. However, that which is hard only makes you stronger. It is getting "easier" so to speak because I am forcing myself to stay out of the kitchen (which helps). It is only hard when I have to make dinner for my two youngest kids. I am considered the 98% success story as of right now. I will have until Week 8 (I am only in Week 2) for the full report.

Self Pay For Band To Sleeve?

I paid $5,500 for a lapband removal and revision to gastric sleeve. I live in Seattle and flew to San Diego to have surgery in TJ, MX Insurance did nothing but play games since last September. I took my medical well being into my own hands.
  15. OMG. She is flying tomorrow after a FULL facelift? I really hope that she has not bitten off more than she can chew. My GF looked like she had a car driven over her for two weeks. She said she hurt to even move. My thoughts will be with you BOTH for a healthy, happy recovery. Hopefully your friend gives herself some time off when she gets home.

9 Month Surgiversary w/ *Before & After Pics*

YOU LOOK FANTASTIC!!! I think your son's smile sums up everything that you both are feeling. He is adorable
  17. I have nothing good to say about the Lapband You need to give your body time to heal, while i know how anxious you were for the revision, this will give your body time to rest. So rest and begin your pre-op diet now. begin reading all there is to know about nutrition and exercising...educate yourself while you wait. Before you know it, two months will have flown by and you will be sleeved. good luck to you
  18. My buddy went home the first night of my surgery, he lives in San Diego. I am actually glad he did because the one nurse had me up ALL NIGHT checking vitals, which drove me nuts. It was bad enough I did not get enough sleep. It is indeed painfully boring for our support people. I hope someone is able to give you some thoughts as to what to do

    Denied!

There are no words to explain how sad I am for how you are feeling. This too shall pass. This is also 90% of why many of us go to Mexico...myself included. I was told that I had not been "obese" long enough to qualify, after going through 6 months of testing (metabolic and otherwise). Insurance companies in the US will say and do anything to deny, deny, deny. You have options. I wish you the best and do not give up!!

    Stopped Smoking and feel great

Thank you. As a woman who began smoking late(er) than most, I never bought into the triggers it can do. However, I now believe it is just so insidious. I was walking out of the Fleetwood Mac concert last night and got behind a girl who was smoking. Typically I would walk along and not have it bother me, however, I scrunched up my nose and made an awful face as it wafted into my face. I wanted to GaG. my husband started giggling up a storm and said "I LOVE this new you"...my aversion to even smelling it is directly related to my cute jellybean I call Stomey, because I am convinced my new stomach has eliminated ANY and ALL cravings I have had for cigarettes in the past four years. It has made me curious in my thoughts if eliminating the Ghrelin hormone trigger in our stomach can also eliminate craving for alcohol, (obviously) food, cigarettes, etc. It will be something to see in the next few years.

    Saggy butt

squats and lunges are the best way to work your gluteus maximus and gluteus minimus back into their normal position. The rear end is nothing more than a set of muscles that must be reconditioned and sorry Sassygirl...just having sex is not going to do it

    barely followed my preop diet

I didn't follow the Pre-Op at all. I tried and failed miserably. I only had Soup the day before surgery. Be kind to yourself, everyone is different. I was a low BMI at 34% so just realize it is different for everyone
  25. YES. please share names of plastics. Although when I was down in TJ I heard that alma at Ready 4A Change was also setting up for that as well. (?) does anyone know?
