Welcome Chimboree...awesome job walking. If you want me to send you the spreadsheet with the program we are doing for the 12 weeks...PM me an email address and I will forward it on. I have been walking on a treadmill too but haven't started using the incline yet...still walking flat but I did get it up to 3.3 mph for a 1/4 mile of my walk. Seems sooo slow but I am still fat. LOL

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Woofay, Sorry to hear about your band! That is so unfortunate. Did Dr. K give you an idea of the cost to repair it and what surgical process is involved? -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Dr. Kirshenbaum question
Biggest Loser replied to want2bmeagain's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Yes it is a long drive but it costs so much less than a plane ticket from here. I can't believe how much they want for those. I bet you are excited about your band. I had to wait like 2 months because he was going on vacation and it was agony waiting that long. Now I am excited about my first fill in a couple weeks. -
I walked again today. 35 minutes for 1.75 miles. And I am so excited because since I started the walking program I have lost 2 pounds!!! How is everyone else doing with their walking? How far, how long??

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Dr. Kirshenbaum question
Biggest Loser replied to want2bmeagain's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Dr. K. was awesome! I had absolutely no problems. He is professional and curtious. I have never had a problem reaching him with questions or getting paperwork for my insurance. I also have a long drive to see him...9 hours, but it was well worth the trip. -
Hi Brenda- I sent you an email. :tea:
-
Hey Kat, That would be really awesome if someone locally would do the fills-if they didn't charge a fortune for it. :tea:
-
They can get expensive! I love listening to audio books though especially on long drives. I've also found a lot of interesting Podcasts that are free on Itunes. It seems like they have Podcasts out there on every subject you can imagine.

I wanted to update you guys on the walking program. I found a wonderful email buddy to do the walking program with me. We decided to change the program I had to start at 30 minutes instead of 15 minutes. Today I walked inside on the treadmill. I walked at 3 mph and a total of 1.5 miles. I left it at a zero incline today since it was my first day walking in along time. Here is the updated schedule with the increased times if anyone is interested. Sorry that it doesn't format well posting it in here. If you want me to email you the spreadsheet, PM me. WEEK Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7 1 30 min 30 min 35 min 30 min 35 min 30 min 35 min 2 30 min 35 min 35 min 30 min 35 min 30 min 40 min 3 30 min 40 min 35 min 30 min 40 min 35 min 40 min 4 35 min 45 min 35 min 35 min 40 min 35 min 45 min 5 35 min 45 min 45 min 35 min 45 min 35 min 50 min 6 40 min 45 min 45 min 40 min 45 min 40 min 55 min 7 40 min 45 min 55 min 45 min 45 min 45 min 55 min 8 40 min 45 min 55 min 45 min 55 min 45 min 65 min 9 45 min 55 min 55 min 45 min 55 min 55 min 65 min 10 45 min 55 min 65 min 45 min 65 min 55 min 65 min 11 55 min 55 min 65 min 55 min 65 min 55 min 65 min 12 55 min 55 min 75 min 55 min 75 min 55 min 75 min

That is so cool. Exercise and eatting right was never part of my life growing up and as an adult I have tried but never been successful to lose weight and exercise regularly. Sorry to hear about your husband. My husband also had open heart surgery. He had it when he was only a year old due to a birth defect and has lived his whole life being active and eatting right. He is his ideal weight and is very active; everything I want to be. How has your banding been? Have you had any problems?

Awesome, I would love for you guys to share in the thread! I do have a pedometer and treadmill...just don't use them much. lol I am trying to change that! Hopefully there is someone out there just starting that can start out small with me. I don't think I could take off and start walking 45 mins to hour right off the bat. :faint:

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Biggest Loser replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi Gurlygirl- When I had mine done I left the day after surgery. Dr. K wasn't really excited about that, he said he would prefer I stay one more day but he agreed to call in the morning to check on me --everything was ok so he gave his approval for me to leave. We had a 9 hour drive home but I am glad I didn't have to fly, it would have been alot to deal with. At least in the car I could wear my holey sweats, streatch out and sleep. I never, ever get nausiated and I was surprised how much I was nausiated after this, but I never had to use the nausia medication. I slept quite a bit the first couple days. Good luck with your band!! -
Good Luck Yikes! Don't be scared...before you know it, it will all be behind you and you'll be losing the weight.

Has anyone else thrown up during the first two weeks post op? I was transitioning from the full liquids to pureed meats and it didn't go well. I threw up, but very lightly. Should this be a big concern that I have messed up my band or stiches and should call my doctor?

Thank you everyone! I am doing better now, I switched back to full liquids. I'll have to try the meat thing another day! -
Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Biggest Loser replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
ShelbiCallie, I am doing good. I am still resting quiet a bit. I have been getting a little fever in the afternoon and had been taking some liquid motrin which didn't seem to help at all so today I broke down and crushed up a couple tylenols and gagged them down and now I am feeling much better. I have only taken the prescription pain medicine twice - the first two nights after sugery- just so I could sleep better but really the pain has been managable. I had quiet a bit of pain in my shoulders up until yesterday which they said was the CO2 gas escaping from surguery or something like that. Glad that has subsided. The fantastic news is I have been losing weight on a daily basis since surgery and I couldn't be happier! Eatting has been a trip! I can eat like a 1/4 cup of something and feel like I just ate the Thanksgiving feast. I love it. PCOS really sucks and I am banking all my hopes that this lap-band and weight loss will send most of the symptoms packing. My husband and I really want children and this was cheaper and probably a better chance for us to have a baby than getting en vitro. Denver isn't so bad to drive in. Everything was within a couple miles. We never even had to hit the freeway once we got settled and if you love to shop there are lots of cool stores there!! -

ShellbiCallie, I saw your post saying that you were going to stay at the Holiday Inn and I wanted to tell you where I stayed last week when I got my band done by Dr. K. I stayed at the Extended Stay in Aurora. It was very nice and had a full kitchen which was so nice after the surgery for cooling and heating liquids. It was $63 per night (medical rate) and just down the road from Dr. K's office and the place I had sugery. I would say that the facilities were just as nice as a Holiday Inn but more homely. Good luck with your surgery, everyone there was so nice. I was well taken care of. -

Hi Everyone, I got my band today and am doing well. I think the worst part of it was that when I tried to get up and walk the first time it felt like I had charlie horses in the calves of my legs. Did anyone else experience this? I think that pain along with the sore throat from the breathing tube was worse than the incisions. I am eating popsicles and drinking small amounts of apple juice. I didn't even need my pain medicine this afternoon. I planned to take a little before bed just to help me sleep but I am very surprised that it was not as painful as I imagined it would be. Anyway, thank you to everyone who wished me well. I am glad it is over and I am on the road to the new me. -

Chimboree: I am set for tomorrow too! It's finally here. Hello to everyone if I missed your post, haven't had a lot of time to read the last couple days! -
Thanks Vintage! That is so incouraging for us who are just starting on the Lap-band with PCOS. If you don't mind, can you share with us if it has helped in other areas with your PCOS (such as regulating periods, hair growth, thining hair, cysts, and etc.) I want to have kids someday but would also really like for some of the other PCOS problems to stop with the weight loss. I am being banded tomorrow, Finally!!

Lindaa & Dmtjet: Thank you for your greetings! Sunshine6855: My surgery is on the 24th but I am leaving tomorrow. We are about 9 hours away and are driving up and back. I have to see the Dr. on Monday and then have surgery on Tuesday and returning home Wednesday. I am excited but now a little nervous too! Frustrated: Were you saying there is a group for PCOS? If so, could you PM me the link. I would love to join that. I have never really gotten to talk to anyone else that has it. I have been suffering with the symptoms since I was in teen years and the doctors had no idea what was wrong. I haven't really done a complete low-carb diet in awhile (until my pre-op diet) but have tried to cut out as much sugar as possible and that seemed to regulate my periods some. Thanks for your response and lets keep in touch with the progess this has for our PCOS! Lynette617: I am a big fan of the show. Watched all of them. I started making a tape to send in once and then chickened out and didn't send it. :car: I wanted to wear a t-shirt for the audition tape that said "Anorexia Survivor" but thought maybe they wouldn't find much humor in that. If I missed anyone that said something, I am sorry! There was a gazillion pages to read:help:-Please PM me. -
Good Luck!!! Hope all went well.

Hello Everyone! I just came across this thread and thought I would say hello. I am getting my band in a few days and will be a fellow July bandster! I am sooo excited!! I live in New Mexico and am going to Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver. If anyone has any friendly advice to pass on, I would much appreciate it. I have learned so much already by reading all the posts and things on here. It has been a big support. I am so glad there is something like this out there. The weight problem sucks and I am so glad to finally be getting a solution. I also have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) which makes it hard for me to lose weight but soooo easy to gain it. I am hoping this will help with that as well. I would love to hear from anyone else that is going through the same thing! Right now I am in the midst of my pre-op diet and am sooo sick of Meat & Eggs I could scream!! I am really looking forward to the liquids after the surgery just so I don't have to eat any meat...blaaahhhh! After this, I just might become a vegetarian.
