  1. Our faces show our weight loss first cuz the bones are closer too the surface. Also, my personal theory is that women lose weight from the top of our heads down! LOL! Bur seriously, you may need to add some Omega 3 fats to your diet. It will help your skin and brain. Good sources, cold Water fish like salmon and sardines, avocados, organic eggs, organic Peanut Butter or other nut butters and nuts in general. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

    NSV & update

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences here. It has truly brought me to tears. Congratulations on your tremendous progress so far! 70 lbs is a lot of weight! Imagine carrying around 7 bowling balls. That is how much easier you've made your life! Such a blessing and you are only in the beginning of your journey! You are doing great and I am so happy for you and for myself because I'm on this exciting journey too! pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

    Hashimoto's and the Sleeve

http://www.thyroid.org/blood-test-for-thyroid/. Here's good article about T3. T4 and TSH hormones. Getting your level of TSH tested will tell you if you've got enough T4. Really you need to have a blood test for all three. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274
  4. I was already tracking my food intake prior to the initial consultation. I initially focussed on changing the habit of drinking Water while eating. It takes about 30 days to change a habit. I found that I enjoyed my food more and stayed full longer even before the surgery just making that one change. I too had been trained by many other weight loss programs to drink lots of water while eating. If you try to change everything at once it can be too overwhelming. They will go over everything with you in detail again and you can always call or email them with your questions. Good luck. The sleeve is a great tool for weight loss but not a magic wand. You still have to work at it. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

  6. P.S. you may need to up your Omega 3 fats. That is directly related to our brain's sense of satiation. Salmon, nut, eggs avocados are all great sources for that. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

    Goal Outfit?

If buying a "goal" outfit will help motivate you I say, why not? For myself I don't know what size I'll be exactly so I will shopping as I go along in my weight loss journey. I'm already down from a 24/26 W to 18/20 W. (The W stands for Woman not Wide LOL!) I've been fat my whole life and I'm also very tall 6'1" so I think I'll end up a normal size 14 approx. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274
  9. No regrets. But in all honesty it ain't always easy. All the barbecue smells yesterday were torture. I did eat half a hot dog, some baked beans and salad which was delicious! So not all that deprived really. The biggest struggle is in my mind! pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274
  10. I apologize if I came across as judgmental or critical. I was just trying to think of things that might be helpful in you situation, which is an extreme one. It sounds like you are handling it the best that you can. Glad you are feeling more positive. You are very brave. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

    Hashimoto's and the Sleeve

I too have Hashimotos. I think my weight-loss has been average and has goon faster than I expected, 51lbs including pre-op. I stayed the same this week which is the first time that has happened. I've had a few weeks where I only lost 1lb. I have had to reduce my synthroid slightly. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

    Apples

My hubby plays the violin and the viola, mostly chamber music gatherings with friends. He was a concert master too for a while. We love Irish and celtic music (really the sane thing). Are you familiar with Secret Garden? It's a sort of gospel/Irish fusion. Anyway, now I really am craving an apple but I'll hold off a few more months. I can eat raspberries and strawberries with no problem but they don't have the skin or that wonderful flesh that apples have. Oh boy! pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

  17. Globetrotter: i truly admire and respect everyone who is willing to put their lives on hold and on the line in service to our country. I applaud your courage, you are in a tough situation between a rock and a hard place. I think you team leader's response sounds like he is overwhelmed and didn't know how to process, much less handle what you were trying to convey. Nor did he know how to help you so he went into self-defense mode. Women and men communicate very differently. That's why so many marriages fail. Perhaps you could find a way to downplay your appearance. Can you wear a sport bra that flattens you, loose clothing and a hat to cover your hair? Don't imagine you currently wear make-up but if so stop wearing it. Some guys are still going to make cat calls and wolf whistles regardless. Just don't react and don't laugh or smile or even look in their direction. Any reaction at all is probably seen as encouragement. There has been a lot in the news about sexual harassment in the armed forces and what a problem it is for women. Also, is it possible that you could unconsciously be sending out the sexual vibe that is bringing you all this attention? I have never been in your situation but once went thru a period of time where I got hit on a lot, even from the husband's of good friends. It freaked me out but after a while I realized that I had somehow unconsciously encouraged this behavior from men. It doesn't excuse their bad behavior but it's important to try to be self-aware. Good luck to you. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

    Gained 3 lbs

Everyone has stalls or small gains from time to time. You could be retaining Fluid for some reason. I try to weigh myself once a week at the same time, not long after I get up and before I've eaten. Nonetheless, this week I stayed the same. Am I a little bummed, yes. But I've had other weeks, I think weeks 5 & 6 post surgery when I either stayed the same or lost only 1/2 lb. It seems like one's body has a mind of it's own sometimes. The scale will start moving down again, don't worry! pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

    Slimies. Foamies.

Feeling a little better. I did about 30 laps around my living room. It's a townhouse so not much room to walk. My husband suggested I go outside and walk around the cul-de-sac but i can't walk around outside belching my fool head off! My neighbors would think I was drunk! LOL! I guess no more turkey burgers for me. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4
