    Where are the 50s ???

Not sure how I overlooked this thread for so long! I'm 53 and was sleeved on 2/28/13. Just had my 3&1/2 month post-op visit today. Down 57 lbs! Yeah! I also had a lot of knee and back problems which is primarily why I decided on the surgery. Almost got the lap-band last year but chickened out at nearly the last minute. I'm so glad I waited a bit longer and got the sleeve surgery instead. It isn't always easy, especially in the beginning but it has been worth it. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274
  6. We have the same surgery date! Congrats on your great weight loss! Today was my 3 & 1/2 approx. month follow up with my surgeon. I'm down 57 lbs. according to their scale which always differs from mine but who cares. It's all good! pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274
  7. Ah yes, the braless, shirtless run on the treadmill. Been there and done that one too. My echo tech was a very handsome young man (think young George Clooney). He was very professional as he maneuvered around my sweaty, floppy boobs to get a good picture of my pounding heart. Oh Lord, I was totally mortified! But you gotta laugh about it, it's so ridiculous! Hopefully you'll get your insurance clearance soon. I definitely think men should have to take this test in the biff! Thanks for the laugh everybody! pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

  10. Congratulations on your wonderful weight loss! I kind of like the tattoo idea, but I would keep it small, tasteful and perhaps where it can be concealed by clothing? To be honest I'm not a big fan of tattoos or piercings. However, it is your body and you are approaching a special milestone in your journey so I think you should Celebrate that in a way that will make you feel happy and proud of your accomplishment. Your family will accept what you decide to do. Saving for plastic surgery is also a worthy goal if you feel strongly that you want to get it. Not sure what I will do when and if I attain that 100 lb loss. The old me would gave eaten a pizza to celebrate! LOL! I will probably go shopping for some new cloths. Your post has got me thinking. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

  12. I think it is your new, tiny stomach you are feeling. I had that too for about a month. There is still a lot of swelling which is why it hurts. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

40 Y.O.,Obese since childhood, want to lose 150?

I too have been obese my entire life. I don't know my highest weight for sure but it was probably about 360 in 2002. I got down to 285 very slowly over the period of three years, then went back up to about 310. I kept hovering round 300 lbs until my brother died in 2009 and I gained 25 lbs, lost it and regained, blah, blah, blah! I'm 53 and my current stats are in my signature. I wish this surgery had been available when I was 40 but I doubt I would have had the courage to do it then. I hope to get down to 220 and I'm well on my way. I'm also very tall, 6'1". My surgeon said to expect to lose approx 80% of my excess weight The main thing is, to my mind, that this isn't a magic cure but a really great tool that makes it much easier to stay on a low calorie diet via portion control. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274
  14. I am sorry you are so miserable. Have you called your Dr.? You shouldn't be having such difficulty at this point. You may have a stricture. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

  16. Love this post! I have been very open about my devision to have weight-loss surgery. Besides marrying my wonderful husband I think it's the best decision I've ever made. I haven't received any criticism or negative comments about my choice, mostly curiosity and some fearful concern for my well-being. Thankful for that! But I read on the forum that many people decide to keep their surgery as private as possible. This is a personal decision of course, but I think there is a big misconception among the uninitiated that having surgery is the "easy" way out and that you don't have to work at it. While my weight-loss thus far has gone much further and faster than I've ever done using any previous diet and exercise program, it was NOT an easy choice. It takes so much courage and determination to see it through and yes, WORK IT, once you're on the other side. Thanks for the continuing inspiration! pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

my bf broke up with me..

So sorry. That sucks. It is hard when you're sad and can't eat the half gallon of ice cream anymore. I hope you can find a non-food way to cheer yourself. If you think of something please share it. Hugs to you. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274
  19. No wonder you are hungry when you are nursing your baby! More fluids are paramount in this stage. Try some different brands of Protein shakes to see if there is one you like better. I liked Sobe Water but it is sweet. there are some unflavored protein powders you could mix into a thin Soup or broth too. Try having some thin cream of wheat or cream of rice Cereal too. But be sure to make it VERY thin. I made mine too thick once and it got stuck and gave me about 2 hours of misery. Also, and this is of course a very personal decision on your part, consider beginning to wean your baby onto some formula. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

  22. Walking around as much as you can helps dissipate the gas. Try sipping luke warm decaf tea, broth or I liked Sobe Water which is sweet but has no calories. Don't try to eat anything yet. Just sip Clear liquids slowly all day. The pain meds made me really nauseous too. Ask for some anti-nausea medication. Also try liquid tylenol without the codeine for pain. It's the narcotic pain meds that made me nauseous. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

    1 week out today!

Try rolling slowly and carefully onto your side and slowly pushing yourself up to a sitting position. Don't get up too fast, especially if you feel light headed. You are probably not getting enough Water. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274
