    I cant get full

You're in pre-surgery freak-out! I couldn't stop eating either, but I got thru the pre-op liquid diet by repeating to myself "it's temporary". It does require determination but if I was able to do it you will be able to also.

how to calculate excess body weight

I have lost 75% of my excess weight so far. I was told the surgery alone could account for 60-80% of my excess weight loss. I would have been thrilled with just 50% because I wasn't getting anywhere with the old-fashioned diet and exercise effort anymore and I have been morbidly obese for most of my life. My surgery was almost 11 months ago and for me it was the best decision I've ever made (after marrying my husband). You have to decide for yourself what you feel is best for you.

    Valentine's Challenge

233.2 this morning. Up .6 from last week, dag nabit! However, I was up quite a bit more mid-week. It seems when I lose now I start to relax about what I'm eating and tracking and, surprise, I gain weight! I'm finally over my walking pneumonia and can start exercising again this week so hopefully I get better results.
  9. You just went thru another major surgery. Give yourself a break! I doubt your coffee is the issue. Most likely your body's healing process is what os keeping you in a stall. You also sound a little down in the dumps, which is understandable. I'm sure once you are cleared for exercise you'll perk up and the pounds will start coming off again!
  10. I wrestled with which surgery to get too. I was originally going to get the RNY but after learning more about some of the potential effects of the dumping syndrome, which can include hypoglycemic symptoms and heart palpitations, I decided on the sleeve. Although not everyone experiences those symptoms, I just didn't want to take the chance because I already have issues with an irregular heart beat. However, I knew that I would likely struggle with my desire for sweets because I am a sugar addict. While it is true I can eat candy or cookies I can't eat them like I did pre-sleeve. If I eat too much of that stuff I feel really crappy so it's sort of like the dumping syndrome but not as severe. No one can predict what your experience will be regardless of the surgery you choose. Many people struggle with re-gain regardless of the surgery they had. It's not a cure but a very powerful tool if used correctly. I think you should follow your own instincts but be sure you are being truly honest with yourself about your choice. Best of luck to you.
  11. I only use protein shakes as an occasional snack at this point. Maybe you should take a break from them. In what way are you struggling with your eating? Are you having trouble not wanting to eat because everything tastes bad? If so perhaps you should contact your NUT and Dr to make sure everything is OK. Or are you having a difficult time controlling your eating and feel like you're eating too much? That's my issue. I have the hungries again. Not good. You're doing really well with your weight loss so congrats on that!
  12. I'm stuck too. Thinking of trying the 5:2 diet that a lot of the Veterans on the forum hear use to break thru stalls or lose when they've regained a bit. Of course if I would stop getting sick with colds and get some exercise that would help too!

    Cocktails

My surgeon's recommendations were to avoid alcohol for one year but I knew I wasn't likely to do that. I think I had a few sips of wine at about 3 months pot-op and now I like an occasional glass of wine with dinner. Haven't had anything stronger except for a hot toddy when I was sick and eggnog at Christmas. I have also had beer a few times (gasp!) and I found it affected me much more quickly than wine, probably the carbonation. I have to drink it slowly. It's sort like eating something, makes me feel full for while.

    Looking for widow woman mentor

I can't imagine going thru the beginning of this weight loss journey alone. My deepest sympathy to you. I'm not a widow but have lost my oldest brother to Leukemia. Not the same relationship obviously but I do know how hard it is losing a loved one. Blessings to you and your family.
  15. You must be a petite sweetie! I'm 6'1" so my goal weight is probably your pre-surgery weight! LOL. So funny how we are all so different and yet all have struggled so much with our weight. Congrats on your awesome success!

  18. Dear Lyndsey: My heart goes out to you and your family as you deal with this very painful loss. Your sister was indeed a beautiful young woman, as are you. I do understand the pain of losing a beloved sibling as my oldest brother died from Leukemia in 2009. I felt and still do feel that part of my own soul went with him. I still cry for his loss and I always will. The hardest time is what you are going through now, the first year, and dealing with the rage and the devastation of the enormous void that has been created by your sister's death. You have a right to your feelings, all of them. I doubt that my words are of any comfort but I hope you can take comfort in knowing you have made an impact on your sister's behalf. She lives on through you and her family and all who knew and loved her. I hope you will reconsider and not leave the forum. As you said, your voice is now your sister's voice too and both of your stories need to be told. Many of us come thru the surgery with no or very few issues and we need to be reminded that we are indeed blessed and fortunate. Many blessing to you and your family.

Bea: I too think you don't need to send all of us a reminder. But maybe you should send the administrator a message about the difficulties you encountered.
  20. I agree the Herbalife shakes are yummy but they are mostly soy-based, rather than whey protein isolate. My instructions were to stuck with the whey-based protein shakes. I just bought a new tub of Dymatize Nutrition rich chocolate flavor protein shake powder from The Vitamin Shoppe online. Really yummy! However, I don't think it hurts to "shake" things up once in a while. Groan, sorry for the pun!
  21. We are all in the same boat, struggling with post-holiday weight gain, old, destructive eating habits coming back, and lack of exercise (other than shoveling snow). First of all I would gently suggest that you may have a sugar addiction. I know I do. So stop with the sweet tea and the cookies. You know what you need to do. I wasn't going to come back here either cuz I didn't like the new app but realized that I really need the support. So I'm back, hangin around. Check out the Valentine's Day challenge. That might help you get motivated. You are really close to goal, as am I, and I just need a little kick in the butt to get myself going again. Tell your hubby that you need his support and find out why he's potentially sabotaging you. He might think that you look just fine now or maybe he's tired of hearing you talk about the struggle. Up to you to have that conversation. For myself, it's the realization that I can't afford to become complacent about what I'm eating and not track my food. Otherwise, it's a quick and slippery slide back UP the scale!
  22. I have been sick too with a bad cold that became an upper respiratory infection. I was definitely "feeding" my cold and not getting any exercise. I'm also not ready to resume my workouts. Hope you feel better soon!
  23. Although my hubby isn't obese, he is overweight and wants to shed about 25-30lbs. Since I got sleeved he has made a few half-assed attempts but often he seems to be eating whatever I can't finish. He's slowly becoming a bit more aware but the man LOVES to eat! Who doesn't? Anyway, since he is so supportive of me and loving I have been biting my tongue about some of his food choices and habits. He'd probably lose weight if he just stopped eating the crap at Starbucks! I've given up on that one. The reality is that he is an adult and has to decide for himself what he eats, doesn't eat, etc. All "encouragement" from me won't change his behavior if he doesn't want to change himself anymore than I could change myself before I made the decision that I needed to change in order to enjoy my life. You know your man and you will figure it out as you go. When one person in a relationship decides to change it definitely puts some pressure on the relationship. Try to focus on your loving feelings and be patient. He may see your success and decide to follow your lead.
