Jasper....50 pounds my goodness girl....lets thing about this....50 pounds is ten bags of potatoes....50 pounds is 200 sticks of butter!!!.....50 pounds is a five year old child! You lost all of that in how long??? You should be anything but discouraged. I think where its coming from is when we have a surgery like this we just expect the weight to fall right off. It will take some time, please remember that. You are struggling against an addiction...you want to eat and maybe that is underminding your success...Maybe your secretely craving McDonalds, or Dunkin Donuts and that is too overwhelming and you can't feel excitement over your weight loss...I dunno, just a thought. You gonna be at the support group meeting? Perhaps you should bring that up for round table talk? See what everyone else thinks. I will be there!! I will see you then! Talk to you soon!

Hey guys....just wanted to post....I AM GOING FOR SURGERY TOMORROW. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 AM!! im a bit nervous...anxious more like it. i just wanna be done done done! i will post when i get home, may stay over night, i dunno though.....im admitted, so they all ready have the room for me. depends on how things go and how i feel I will talk to you all soon, and thank you ALL for the wonderful support, prayers and well wishes! I just got baned on May 5...And I am on a full liquid diet. I have been sippin and sippin and sippin...and on Saturday two days after my procedure it felt like there was a child sitting on my chest. I called my doctor to see if Phazym or Gas X would cure me, and he said, Your drinking too much~ Can you imagin my surprize??? He suggested I lay off the liquids for a while and then sip much less. I did, and low and behold, that child is off my chest now! Occassionally I will feel it, but it passes really quick. My doctor said I was streaching the pouch created by the lap band. I am noticing that I am able to drink a little more today...I assume that the swelling is going down...internal swelling....and that is allowing me to drink more. I have heard that broth that contains sodium will cause the band to feel tighter and give you that full icky heart attack feeling... I dunno...I refused the broth in my diet all together...maybe it would be soothing, I dunno. I have some sodium free...perhaps if I dilute it? I dunno...scared of it....

Okay...In all honesty..I could give a rats behind about eatting right now. I am two days post op...banded May 5th...I can't deal with these "darn" staples! I was told to leave the bandaides on till Sunday, which is only tomorrow...but they itch! I soo badly want to take the bandaides off now to check my wounds. I think I really need more sleep tonight! I am cranky and fussy and I feel like a whinner! I don't like to whine!! Im almost afraid of my new self...well, myself with an addition. Did anyone else feel like that? I just dont know what to expect I guess. Thanks for listening!!!

Kathy...Yup anestesia did it to me! And again, right.....I am fine! I haven't touched the pain meds that were prescribed for me. I did whine a little bit about the staples, but I don't like having anything on my body that doesn't belong there. They itched really bad too! They come out on Tuesday sooo I think I will make it. I was able to take the bandaids off today and take a shower and that really made all the difference in the world! That and the fact that I have lost 21 pounds since the first day that I was weighed in at my doctors office!! I know! Unreal!!! I don't know how to change that ticker thingy on the signature line, but I want to make sure that these numbers are accurate before I go doing all that!! We will find out Tuesday!! Hey guys! Here it is two days post op...and I feel like there is a small child sitting on my chest! I called Dr Kwons office and he said I was drinking too much. Soo I have to back off my shot glass for now. I think I have found a happy medium. Surgery went well. I did stay over night. I had a reaction to the anestesia...dry heaves...They didn't respond to any medication so they just gave me something to knock me out! The next morning I had my upper GI and all went well.. So I had my diluted apple juice and went home. I can't wait to get in the shower and take these bandaids off. I wanna clean the staples. I was told by Barbara not to do so until Sunday though....I feel gross. I went out for a walk today with my son and husband. My girlfriend came over who had gastric bypass....and I am starting to get rid of some the gas!!! I hope for a better night sleep tonight and then feel a little better tomorrow. I must be really swollen inside. Ahh and to take a shower! My sister is having a huge Mothers Day brunch over her house and I was invited...I think I will go and just say hello, and give my mom her present. Hey guys...Im home! I spent the night at the hospital after dry heaving severely for a while after surgery. I was so scared that I would slip the band! The doctors and nurses desided to just give me something to knock me out after numberous other meds were tried first. I was sooo scared! I feel sore today. I still feel gasy, but that will all work out in time. I walk a little bit....I never knew you used your stomach muscles for sooo much! I am hungry...not having anything since the night of the 3rd....but drinking is helping......liquids liquids liquids...Till Tuesday...Then I got to get my staples out and go back on the protein shakes. Well, I am gonna go....Thanks again all for the support. I am sure I will be back here venting soon! My husband is out in the kitchen looking for dinner, soo I supose my next need to vent is when I see him eatting something I can't have Just kiddin I will talk to you later!!!

AAAAAA THREE MORE DAYS TILL SURGERY!!!!! My nerves are kicked into full gear. Not so much cause of the surgery but because of the changes that this will bring. I am a little scared of the pain afterwards, but I have a high pain threshold...so I think I will be okay. Like the first tattoo we ever get....we are sooo scared that its gonna hurt like hell but then when the artist starts, your like THATS IT? Thats what this is gonna be like as far as the pain....but then again, I get pain meds before I leave the hospital...so I don't know why Im freekin out. After last nights battle with my clothes, there are two big bags waiting by my front door to go to the good will....and I have just a few more things to go thru tonight, or tomorrow, or when ever I feel like it. I actually have room in my dresser now!!!! Never thought I would see that day! I am quite proud of that accomplishment! Wasn't easy for me to do it,but I did it. I am a clothes hoard...I know there was a thread on that subject here not too long ago. Well, the day is starting....I dont wanna be at work...hey I wont be tomorrow!!! Thats for sure..... Hey there May bandsters! May 5th is quickly approaching! I am getting a little nervous. I am going thru all my clothes right now, weeding out old winter clothes that I know wont fit come winter time....My biggest delemia is my winter leather coat! What do I do with that?? Its pretty dressy, soft leather, lined with sheep skin. Real nice...from Wilsons Leather. I think I am gonna try and put it up for sale on Ebay. I don't mind donating all my other clothes but maybe with the $$ from the leather coat, I can put it towards another leather coat, just a few sizes smaller!! I do my preop stuff on Tuesday...and I am starting to get a bit nervous! Anxious, but a little nervous too! All righty gotta get back to my piles of clothes. I will talk to you soon! Hey all!!! Four more days till surgery. I am starting to go thru some of my clothes. Well, all of my clothes are on my bed in piles, I gotta get back at it. I wanna go to bed early tonight. I am starting to wonder if this will fit, if that will fit. I am getting rid of all my winter clothes. I wont see clothes that size again, especially this winter. But the one thing that is bothering me is my leather winter coat! Its a really nice soft leather coat lined with sheep skin, and it is reversable..really dressy, not an every day coat. What the hell am I gonna do with that? Im thinking Ebay....I dunno. I dont mind giving away the sweaters and clothes, but this is a bit different...I know my husband paid a little bit of $$ for it......Any other suggestions??? Hey...wheres The Orange Inn? Is it right next door to where the meetings usually are? Do we buy drinks while we are there??? Just kidding....my nerves talkin! Thursday is gonna come QUICK! My preop stuff at the hospital is tuesday...when I talk to the anestesiaologist.... All righty, getting back to my piles of clothes, I could babble all night! Later !!

Oh my me on the baby ward! If I get to go play with the babies I would get outta bed quicker!!! I love babies. I am going to Bon Secours..I do like them there. I will be at the support group meeting. It will be my last one prior to surgery and I will be there. I dont care if I have to grow wings and fly there, I will be there!! Does anyone know if the meeting was moved again this week? Wasn't it somewhere else last week? Please lemme know. I could always call Mauri too ..... which ever....GOT MEDICAL CLEARANCE! WAHOO! Good thing, I wouldda choked my PCP if he said NO WAY after all this! just kiddin...I like my PCP. Hopefully he stays with the group...the group I am with is NOTORIOUS for loosing good doctors. SIX MORE DAYS TILL MY SURGERY!!! Yep the count down is in full swing...OH BOY Nervous, a little. Over the fear of dying during surgery. Anxious, a whole lot. Cant wait to be on the other side of this. Excited, a little more than I have been in quite some time, since my baby was born, SEVEN YEARS AGO! In a way this is almost like a birth...the birth of me being thinner, healthier, and more confident. I go to my primary care physician today for my pre surg physical and letter of medical clearance. waaahooo.. All righty, thanks for listening. Talk to you soon!!!

I have heard of patients having stress tests before surgery. my friend had one prior to her gastric bypass too. i think its just to make sure that your heart can handle the surgery. i was afraid i would have to have one too, but when i consulted with my cardiologist, there was no need. i have had a murmer in my heart for a long time, but now its gone... you get on a tread mill and they hook you up to monitors...they will watch your blood pressure and your breathing. They monitor how much stress is put on your heart and respiratory system during different speeds on the tread mill. You are completely safe during this test. If you have any pain or you can't breath or your heart rate is abnormal they will stop the treadmill. I hope this has been helpful! AS OF TODAY!! ONE WEEK TILL SURGERY WAAAHOOOO!

bandit....you and i chatted in the chat room a couple of days ago....we are gonna be fine! i promise i will post to let you know how things went...i go 5/5/05!!!!! this can NOT be worse than anything that we have been thru in our lives being MO.....the embarassment, the health issues, the self doubt, the constant craving of something better...or bigger (not necessarily just food wise, but in life too).......no self esteem, practically doing anything just for people to like us.....we don't have to be that person any more! we will pull thru this...we will be okay! sure there are gonna be somethings that are gonna suck!! even if only for a little while. for me bread...holy moly i would rather loose a finger than give up bread...but if for one minute of my life i could flaunt myself, rather than hide myself....it will be worth it!!!! AS OF TOMORROW I WILL HAVE ONLY 7 DAYS TILL MY SURGERY...seven days, do you know how quick a week goes by?? and ya know what...I will be saying very shortly its been a year since my banding.....and im at goal! Hey All I haven't asked my doctor for proof of anything he has told me...but if the carbonated drinks just pass right thru the band, and settle into the lower part of the stomach, the gas could still build up in the upper part...gas rises...unless, it travles downward ...I can see how it would stretch the pouch.........Anyway, from what I have been told this whole band experience can be different for each patient. Hey everyone....I am about to be banded on 5-5-05.....and I have discussed this with my surgeon all ready and this is what I have been told 1. Carbonation will streach the pouch 2. Avoid alcohol with fiz because it will streach the pouch. All other types of mixed drinks are empty calories, AND one drink is equal to three!! after surg. 3. Do not drink before meals cause it will fill you up and you wont get all the protein you need....and don't drink during because it will push the food thru the pouch quicker possibly leading to eatting more, and not feeling full...And wait at least 4. Use nothing but Tylenol because other pain meds Advil,Aleve...etc..will cause errosion. I hope this answers some questions....Anyone else hear otherwise??? Have a great day!!!

Deb... Hiya! I am not banded yet...my date is coming up..May 5th!!! My doctor told me to stay away from anything that isn't Tylenol....He said that other pain relievers like Aleve-Advil could cause the band to errod and burrow into our stomach walls. I don't know how much it would take to cause a reaction like that, but one pill is too much in my opinion! Im sure other patients have been given different directions, but for me...IM BUYING STOCK IN TYLENOL! Hope this is helpful!

Hey everyone! Jorjet, I wasn't at this past meeting...car trouble. But I will certainly be at the one on May 1st. That will be four days to my surgery...and I think I will be in need of support....or at least just time to myself away from my house. When I saw Dr Kwon on the 18th I requested a copy of the post op diet...He just told me, don't worry about that diet now, concentrate on the one your on now and then we will send you home with directions on the post op diet. I respect that information and I see why he said that. However, I would like to shop for my post op stuff myself rather than have my husband do it. He trys, but sometimes doesn't get exactly what I want...and when I am not allowed to have most of what I want, I want what I want and thats it. Does that make sence? Sounds like I am stomping my feet as I say this...but honestly, I don't want to have to give up so much just not to have what I really what...Anyway....If someone can give me a list of what we can have the two weeks after surgery I would appreciate it. Are we allowed to have tea? Are we allowed to have coffee? Is it all watered down apple juice and broth? Thanks for the info!

Hey bubblesstina..A big New Yorker How you doin? .......Am I nervous....humm lets see...as I sit here filling out my living will and health care proxy...am I nervous? HELL YEA! I just wanna be on the other side of this sooo bad! I cant wait. I am very confident in my surgeon.....I know I will be all right. I just wanna cover my basis just in case.. This next week is gonna go by rather quickly for me. I work in a high school and we are off on Monday...The week will fly by. Then theres the preop testing and BAM!! the surgery date! CAN'T WAIT! My approval went thru quick too. My insurance actually called my surgeons office and gave them a verbal approval within two days! Then they sent letters to follow up....really awesome GHI ROCKS! (so far...we will see what kind of bills I get afterward) I went out shopping and got myself some comfy pj's for after the surgery....Im thinking about wearing them TO the hospital....so if I haveto be in them it wont bother me... I am gonna stock up on my liquids for the afterwards...My husband will be home to take care of our son (and hopefully me )sooo its just getting there...which we will!!! What else can we do in the meantime? Count days! GOOD LUCK TO YOU MAY-DAY SISTA! Had to put that hyphen in there, sounded too much like a call for help without it MAYDAY MAYDAY! It was a good they .... they were all sooo well behaved it wasn't funny! I forget why I was trying to IM you on yahoo....Must have just wanted to say hi! ELEVEN DAYS till my band surgery! It is gonna go sooo quick! Next week is a short week for me! I am off from work on Monday....no school for passover....so it is gonna come real quick ... I have to go food shopping today and I understand that the post op is all liquid for a few days.....so i am gonna get me some liquids to have on hand for afterward ... water...some more water...
