unexpected doubt - NSV
ShrinkingBiker replied to makemyownluck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The thing you need to look at is the diet you have been on.. Is it just a healthy eating plan, or is it something that might not be that healthy in the long run.. I am not going to tell you to ask your surgeon, but maybe talk to your primary care doc to see if that diet is something that is healthy for long term (years not weeks or months) If it is, and you feel it is something you can do for the long haul you should do that over surgery.. If it's not healthy, and you feel you can get a good diet plan in order that will maintain loss and make you feel fulfilled and not cause you to backslide after a while, then I would do that before resorting to getting cut.. I would do some serious soul searching and be honest with yourself, maybe talk to someone who knows you well and you feel would be honest with you about it. I'd always advocate doing it yourself first, but for many of us, it just wasn't worked out. Best of luck in your journey no matter what you decide. -
does anyone know why?
ShrinkingBiker replied to moviemom05's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
You don't want to get it done too early and loose more weight then have more loose skin. My doc said wait to be stable for 6 months before even thinking about a lift.. I'm not thinking about it anyway.. That operation makes me think of a scene out of the movie SAW.. lol I may change my mind if at goal I am unhappy. Who knows.. -
When do you celebrate 100 lbs lost?
ShrinkingBiker replied to aquitenonnymouse's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I go with total weight.. my pre-op loss was due to the diet for the surgery so it's part of the process imo. but celebrate every goal you want.. I made a bunch of mini goals and set some as milestones.. It just makes me feel better to do a happy dance more often. -
Stomach exercises

my doc said light workouts are ok at one month, but 6 weeks I am cleared to weight train / lift heavy stuff. -

7 days from Surgery.. Pre Op killing me.... Is it a sign that I am not for the VSG?
ShrinkingBiker replied to winnada's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's normal.. at least it was for me.. I cheated 3 times.. It's not advised obviously, but it does get easier after the surgery.. For the first week or so I didn't even want / miss food.. By one month out, I am eating only 300-500 cals a day because I just can't get more in.. I'm sure that will increase in coming weeks.. But it is worth the effort to power through the pre-op and get through the surgery.. Life will return to a new normal after a while.. It's all a part of the process. -

If you have a boston market near you they have a lot of healthier choices. I have been getting fat free deli meats to hold me over and making rolls with meat cheese and mustard. Wendy's chili is great..

How much weight loss?
ShrinkingBiker replied to glostaff's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was averaging 8 / week but the last week was more like 2-5. I also had about 140lbs to drop so it's going to come off quicker at first, plus men generally lose quicker from what I see. As long as it's coming off, that's what matters. -
People and thier opinions

just turn it on them, and tell them why they DO need it.. That will get them out of the room quickly. -
Dating and letting them know you had surgery
ShrinkingBiker replied to TapSnap's topic in Singles Forum
I'm a believer in laying your dirty laundry out out early.. If they leave over something as silly as the surgery then where they really worth having around anyway? I am lucky that I have my wife and don't have to do the whole dating thing anymore.. Before meeting her, I was in a long term relationship with someone who was not good for me at all.. When we split, I got right out there again, and had a bunch of dates, but to be honest I just didn't click with them after a few weeks for whatever reason.. I think your friend might be looking at the wrong types of dates.. For guys, we don't really have to worry about that too often.. Yes, you will find shallow girls out there, but for the most part they are less focused on stuff like that and more on the personality, CONFIDENCE, and stability of a guy.. If you sit there and worry about your insecurities, everyone around you can and will sense that, and it's like a human repellant. I'd keep with what you are doing.. Work on yourself, your happiness and don't go searching for ms. right.. When you are where you need to be, it will happen.. but, my all means get out there and get a couple of "work outs" on that new body.. haha -

I had a $500 out of pocket max which I had already spent 200 on co-pays so the hospital bill came to a total of $300. On another note.. the total bill was close to 40k for just the hospital. Thank god for insurance.

ShrinkingBiker replied to ShrinkingBiker's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow, these things seem to come in pairs.. I hit a milestone goal of 50lbs down, and then hit my mini goal of 275! woohoo Next up to to drop the morbidly part of obese which should come at about 270 according to the evil bmi chart. Trying to be a good patient and NOT ride my motorcycle until may 1st which will be 6 weeks post surgery... I'm trying.. I did get the oil done and replaced the battery so she's all ready to go in 10 days 3 hours and 20 minutes Tonight I had a buffalo burger patty with munster cheese and sauteed onions.. Ok, I had 3 bites of buffalo burger and was full.. My wife had the rest. -
tracking calories and carbs?
ShrinkingBiker replied to change4life2012's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I track everything I eat with my fitness pal app.. I just don't pay attention to their recommended amounts because it is a bit off even when adjusted down in calories for post vsg. My nut didn't give me a number to strive for.. She said she wants me to have protein with every meal and eat that first.. I almost never get beyond the protein in meals. -
I used pretty much every powdered seasoning there was lol, and even a little franks red hot.

My fitnesspal
ShrinkingBiker replied to pinkdiamondprincess36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't really look at their goals on there.. I wish they had a feature for wLS patients. I just use to to log food and see what calories/ protein / fat I have taken in. I avg between 400-600 on most days. usually around 500. but when I adjusted my calories down it said something like 20 grams of protein. -
I have to take my omeprazole 40mg pill every morning first thing or I feel it.. Usually once I take it I'm good for the day with maybe some flare up at night sometimes.. It's not exactly the most thrilling thing.. but It's manageable.
-
Yes, you can find them.. also check the freezer isles and the natural foods isles.. sometimes they have them there, and those ones to me taste much better then canned. I got tired of creamed soups pretty quickly, so don't go filling up your cabinets.

Bubbles stuck in my throat sensation?
ShrinkingBiker replied to RichardVST's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea, mine isn't related to eating either.. it's pretty much all day. I also have zero allergies.. and it only started post surgery.. like I said.. it's only a minor annoyance but if there was a remedy I'd be all ears
