Ideas for what to tell people?
chasaty379 replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its totally okay if you dont want to tell anyone. Its none of their business. Not everyone is around perfect people who wont judge you so do what is comfortable for you. Telling your business or not telling your business is perfectly okay. All people know (that are not in my inner circle) is that i had a hernia repair. -
Ok guys. I have lost 6lbs so far which is about 1-2 lbs per day with this liquid diet. I just have two more days on liquids. I havent had any nausea but the large incision pain is excruciating when I move. The pain meds do very little for that. My tummy is still swollen but none of the smaller incisions hurt at all. You dont realize how many muscles u were using to simply sit and stand until your stomach has been pulled through them. Lol I actually had a normal formed stool today which usually doesnt happen for a full week. But yay anyway. I walk every hour for a couple minutes. Pee every 2 hrs. Oh yeah, coughing up surgical leftover mucous hurts like hell. So splint when you cough. I will let you know more each day. Ladies ask for diflucan because the periop antibiotics can cause a yeast infection. My meal plan consist of homemade fruit and Protein smoothies.

Okay. Im a little unnerved that i keep seeing people here going right nack to the same eating style that got us into fat camp in the first place. The gastric sleeve is a blessing and we should treat it that way. Why go through all of this if we just keep eating the trash we were eating before??? Being skinny now doesnt make us immune to health issues. We can still develop hypertension, diabetes, and hypercholesteremia! Dont live to eat, eat to live. food should no longer be our reward nor focus. Just eat whats necessary and dont push the envelope. American values has us programmed into thinking food is for fun. Its not, its simply fuel for us to do things that are fun. Come on people, we have to maintain a healthy lifestyle and stop toying with our health. Peace and love to all.

Protein shakes after surgery

Also surgeons talk to us like we wont understand if they go into detail. When they learn that you too are a professional in the medical field, they they are more candid in conversation. They dont tell you everything because people tend to panic with too much info. Dumping syndrome is the reason they want us on low sugar everything. Also many bariatric patients are diabetics too and are very prone to dumping syndrome even before surgery. Every case of diarrhea is not dumping syndrome of course but post gastrectomy patients are at higher risk for it. -

Yes you can get dumping syndrome with the sleeve. You can get dumping syndrome without any surgery at all. Read a medical journal too. The prevalence of dumping syndrome is lower with the sleeve but 100% possible. -
Its technically day 5 post op because my surgery was Monday 5/14 but its day 6 calendar wise. Last night was terrible. I was in so much pain that i was crying. It was the main incision that was hurting so bad. I coukdnt lay down and i couldnt sit up. Ahhhhh. I finally forced muself to lay down through the pain, drugged myself and fell asleep. Today started rough but it hot way better. My pain today is 3/10. Very tolerable. I walked. Ate some babyfood and a smoothie. I had a BM too which means my digestive tract is returning to normal. More steri strips fell off and my wounds look good and are not sore to the touch.

This is normal. The only thing that sucks with the hernia repair is increased tightness and gas. Just be ready for insane gas and anything u swallow including pain meds add more gas.
-
Congrats to you all

Thats called dumping syndrome. Diarrhea or vomiting is caused by too much glucose or carbs. Our new stomachs dont absorb large amounts of sugar and carbs. -
Hernia question
chasaty379 replied to watchout4thebiggurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didnt know i had one until my pre op endoscopy.it was hiatal which simply means ur stomach is pushing up through your diaphragm. It increases your tightness post op but soon relaxes. -
Not enough time has passed but

Woke up this morning with a sharp pain when i breath 12 days post op
chasaty379 replied to sherrypep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It could be gas. Have you been doing your incentive spirometer? Walking? The other possibility is pulmonary embolus or pleuritis. -
I start puree tomorrow. I eat babyfood, mashed potatoes, overcooked veggies, fruit and veggie smoothies.

Gum bleeds are usual for anticoagulant therapy as long as its not excessive. You should be using soft bristle toothbrushes. Still contact the doctor though. And you would not be getting a bloodclot from a blood thinner.

Sleeved on monday and still in pain :(
chasaty379 replied to ItsjustmeHQ's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was sleeved Monday as well. Yes the gas is reficulous. Even when i sip Water i get gas. But its to be expected for at least 6 weeks. You will also feel lots of pain when moving r/t the large incision that they actually pulled the stomach out of. Its hard but hang in there. We are sleeve sisters. -

You look great!! -
I had my surgery yesterday 5/13/13. It was such a process for me because im so anemic that i had to have a blood transfusion before i could have the surgery. The gas is horrible. It hurts more than the surgical wounds. But, i had my first Protein shake today and it helped.
