5 weeks out
RevisionReally replied to RevisionReally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not around my incisions, nor does it feel like I've been doing crunches. I had the single incision procedure, so maybe it's different for me. Maybe it's the internal incisions. When I walk up or down stairs, I have to hold my stomach so that it doesn't "jiggle". Also, when I sit for a long period of time, I have to bend over for a bit until things work themselves out. -
Everything has gone great since my surgery. I have had head aches, but those seem to be getting better. All in all, I think it's all gone well. I am on a regular diet with no restrictions. My concern - I still have a lot of pain in my stomach area. At five weeks is this normal?

When I was working on my insurance approval, I was told that Medicare is "starting" to cover it, meaning that it is now covered in some states, but not all. In time, it should be covered in all states. I was also told that other insurance companies tend to follow Medicare, so as Medicare continues to approve the sleeve, other insurance companies will add it to their covered procedures.

Nine days post-op
RevisionReally replied to RevisionReally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys. Jessica, I did not have a pre-op diet. I was a revision patient and my surgeon didn't feel that it was necessary. I am not a caffeine drinker in general though. I do not drink coffee and mainly drink Water or decaf iced tea. As far as calories, I am estimating high because I am not sure of the calories in the cream of carrot and potato Soups that I am making. I do not care for processed foods, so am making them myself. Thanks for the input everyone. Sorry that some of you are going through the same issues, but good to know that I'm normal. I had wanted to only take one week off work, but my surgeon insisted on at least two weeks. I have my appointment on Wednesday and hope to go back on Thursday, but I've got to get this exhaustion under control first. -
Nine days post-op

Oh, and another thought regarding the headache is that maybe I'm not getting enough calories? -
Nine days post-op

Hanging head.... No, Jessica, but it is helping my headache. And I counted the calories that I'm getting in daily, and with the Isopure, Premere Protein, greek yogurt, cream soup, and other fat free, sugar free things, I'm still only getting about 700 calories per day. I'm open to your thoughts. -
Things are going well, but I am EXTREMELY tired. I started getting a headache two days out, even with the good pain meds. I figured it was dehydration but getting all of my liquids in didn't help. Then I decided it was not enough protein, so I made sure I got all my protein. I finally figured out that it started up when I was tired, so I started taking more naps. What finally worked was getting in a small amount of caffeine (from chocolate pudding). My only frustration now is that I weigh one pound more than I did pre-surgery. How can that be ?!! I know, my body is just holding onto everything for dear life. It is frustrating, but I know that if I keep doing the right things, the weight loss will follow.

Clean Plate Syndrome?
RevisionReally replied to Aries's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am SO with you. I had lapband surgery four years ago and have a revision to sleeve scheduled for tomorrow. I was very successful with my lapband, but my body started rejecting it. I have found that I have to put a very small portion on my plate, because I am going to clean my plate, period. I know that I can always go back for seconds. Understanding that I cannot leave anything on my plate has been key. Cleaning your plate was something that was ingrained in me as a young child. -

single incision anyone?
RevisionReally replied to lynndtt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having the single incision procedure done on Tuesday. My understanding is that there will only be one incision below the breast bone. It is between muscles and they will put a pad in there that will numb things for a few days until things start healing. It will be done at Madigan Hospital in Tacoma. I'm not sure if I'll be up to posting, but I'll try to let you know how things go. -
Hi Megan, my date is July 2nd too! I got my date about three weeks ago. I'm going through many of the same emotions that you are. I'm actually having a revision from the lapband. I was very successful with the band and lost from 275 down to 155 pounds in 4 1/2 years, then started having issues with the band. I've gained 30 pounds over the past 7 months, but am happy that I'm able to get this revision done before I have more weight gain. My life has been so much better since losing so much weight. I guess I have gotten through alot of the emotional eating issues, learning to eat small bites and chew really good, and the fact that you just can't eat much. But I am scared about what the surgeon will find once he gets in there. I have had some tests done and we don't think I have any erosion, just mainly scar tissue. So, things should be fine. It is just scary. Good luck to you, and I hope we can stay connected.

Madigan Hospital post-op diet
RevisionReally replied to RevisionReally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Mousemom. This is all happening pretty quickly. I saw the surgeon for the first time today. I was expecting a long process, but found myself walking out of the hospital with a surgery date 5 weeks out. I have a pre-op appointment one week before surgery where I will find out more information. As a planner, I'd like to have some of this figured out earlier. I guess I should call the office tomorrow and see if I can get a bit more information. -
Band to sleeve..... So anxious!
RevisionReally replied to mpi's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
mpi, I'm in almost the exact situation. I was banded 4 1/2 years ago, lost down from 275 pounds to 157 pounds. Then got to the point that I couldn't eat or drink anything. Had to have the band unfilled, the ER doctor punctured my tubing, and I've gained 30 pounds in the past 6 months. Saw a surgeon today and am scheduled for a revision to sleeve on July 2nd. I know exactly how you are feeling. I was so excited to have lost the weight and felt so good about myself. I was off all medications, able to be active, and felt good about the way that I looked. I'm a bit anxious about a second surgery, but excited to get through this. Good luck to you! -
Madigan Hospital post-op diet
RevisionReally posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a surgery date for July 2nd. I met with my surgeon today, but we didn't get into very many details. Can anyone tell me what to expect post-op. I am especially interested in diet because I'd like to prepare some things for the freezer. If it makes a difference, it is with Dr. Carter. Thanks! -

Lots of questions about possible revision

Darn it. Dr. Srikanth is not in my insurance network. Any other suggestions out there for the Seattle area?
