Marijuana and Life after Bariatric Surgery
uccmart replied to jadama22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried pot at a teen and hated it. I am now in my forties, have VSG 2 years ago. I started having horrible shoulder pain about 6 months in. Turn out I have terrible arthritis and will need a should replacement. My pain control options are narcotics, nsaids, or pot. Narcotics come with a whole load of problems. Nsaids are a no-no with bariatric surgery, however doc gave me a pass to allow me to take. And pot works the very best. However it does make me very hungry. I did not re-gain do to pot, but I do not continue to lose when I am using it. When the pain is bad, I use pot each evening. I am not able to sleep without it due to the pain. I would say stay away from it. If makes it possible to eat much larger portions than without it. It seems like I do never get very full after a full portion. STAY AWAY!!! No use going through all the trouble of the surgery to throw it away with the side effects of marajuana. For me, I will continue to use till I have my replacement surgery which should be later this year, -

Is this much pain normal?
uccmart replied to LeanerLena5426's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the hospital I was on a Tylonol drip. They gave me Morphine when the pain was bad. At home I had Tylonol with Codiene. Walking a lot makes a huge difference. It will help you get any lingering air out and will also help strengthen your abs. Remember that you have a stitch in your muscle at the large incision site. Each time you move it pulls on the stitch a little. I found holding my hand firmly against my abdomen when I moved around it help minimize the pain (going from sitting to standing and rolling over in bed mostly). Prescription pain meds can quickly become an addiction. Being post was puts you at a higher risk of becoming an addict. The doc is just looking out for your well being. Do you have Tylonol you can take? I have children's chewables. There is and end the pain. The stitch will Pop in another week or two and all your pain should then be gone. Hang in there. You can do it! -

Loopy, you may not have passed all you gas yet. Walking is so important to clear the air. There is air in the intestines that needs to pass and also air in your abdomen that needs to be absorbed by your body. I found the abdominal air really caused lots of pain at my large incision and also made breathing deep very painful and difficult. Walking help the air move upward to your shoulders. This will relieve the abdominal pain, but may cause shoulder or neck pain. My doc said get out and walk 3 times a day. It might be hard, but when the air passes you will feel 100 times better. -

June 2013 Sleevers! "The List"
uccmart replied to rebecca_dsu's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 3 weeks out. Today I sneezed and felt no pain. What the heck? Just a lucky sneeze I thought. Then layed down to take a nap and layed on my side with no pain. My stitch must have popped. I didn't feel it. I sure am glad. Now I have no pain at all. -

Hey Ladies, what about PMS post op? I have my period 3 days after surgery which was about 10 days early. I am now 3 weeks post op. My appitite seemed to get way ramped up yesterday and today. If my early last period reset my schedual, this would be my normal super hungry PMS time. Is everyone's PMS still behaving normally? Do you eat more during that time?

Consequences of no protein

You need to get more protien in. 40gm is not enough for a healthy body. Get in an extra protien shake every day. You weight loss will probably speed up. -
Dermabond falling off already?

The glue started pealing on the small incisions within a few days. The glue on the big incision held for a week. I think that's normal. Don't pick at it. You don't want an infection. -
Hi ABJ. If you are going to a Network Provider, it is probably written in their contract that they can not make you pay upfront. They should only have you pay the expected co-pay or co-insurance amount. If this is not a Network Provider, then they can make you pay in full upfront. I have worked in health insurance and medical billing for years. It would be best to stay in network.

Russ, does this mean you're having your surgery in Mexico? Does the insurance pay for that? I would have thought they only pay emergency care out of the country.

You're 90 days should start with that first visit you had. Enjoy the process. You will have lots of things to do to fill up you 90 days.

It seems to me the most important part is having good office staff. The office staff should know all the requirements and should make sure they meet requirements before sending out. My doctors staff is amazing. Once I completed all my pre surf hurdles, the sent the auth request. Insurance approved it in 1 day.

I have to say the oblation was the best thing I have ever done. Before that it had been getting tubes tied. Unfortunately for the oblation, it is quickly getting pushed back to second by my beautiful new sleeve. I am 11 days post op and am so thrilled. So my new list of best things I've done -- Sleeve Oblation Tubes Tied These all translate to some form of freedom for me. I was trapped or held back by something and these 3 things freed me. I would never want to go back and undo any of these....... Unless is meant doing them sooner.

You look great! How long after surf did you start with the trainer? And we're you working with him preop? I was working with a trainer and going to boot camp for several months preop. I am now 11 days out and am excited to get back to it.

I didn't get steri strips on my incisions. My were superglued shut. Crazy? I was sleeved on the 20th and the glue is peeling off now. I had the sleeve, gallbladder removed, and hiatal hernia fixed. I was sore when I moved for week, then I was so happy it went away. Then what happened, I had a coughing attack on Saturday and the pain is back. I seemed to have pulled the muscle or something. Now that I am done whining, I love my sleeve!!
