Hello my fellow sleevers I was sleeved on March 29th. I come from a hispanic culture where we love eating, especially carbs!! My highest weight was 325, date of surgery weight was 304, and my current weight is 269!! I'm 5'9". I would always use large beach towels after showering, but those are BYE-BYE, and will only be used for beach/pool purposes. As of 6/11/2013, I actually use a regular size towel, and it actually closes on me now (whereas a couple months ago, I had to use two!!). I'm happy

Sleeved April 16--How long until I can go back to work as a RN?
lilmely08 replied to Suko67's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hello. I work as a PCT at a ER... I took 6 wks off only because our hospital is being bought out by another hospital and we will lose our FMLA hours. Yesterday was my first day back (I work 3p-3:30 am). My do told me not to lift no more than 10 lbs for the first two months. I felt fine at work just a little tired by 9pm since my bedtime was usually 8:30-10 while I was off work. I did sip a lot of Water throughout my shift but wasn't hungry at all but I did munch on cheese and Protein bars. I'm the type of person that miss working after 2-3 days, therefore I was really glad to go back! -
So far it isn't bad at all! I took 6 wks off since I have FMLA paid hours so I took advantage of that ,) I'm just scared to push or lift more than 10 lbs...

Post Op abdominal bruising
lilmely08 replied to Riverdude's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG, that's a lot of bruising around your incision sites...I don't think that's normal. I had a little bruising from the injection shots but nothing like yours...u should stop into your doctors office and SHOW your abdomen to him/her instead of doing it over the phone. -
Illinois Kane Center/Alexian Brothers?
lilmely08 replied to diva1's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm from Elgin . It's nice to finally know that someone is from the area . I honestly didn't need a drain nor a catheter placed...they did Intubate me as they do for all surgeries. Dr. Rantis told my family that he wished he would've used me as a demo because everything looked perfect & it went so smooth. I stayed in the hospital (alexian medical center) for 2.5 days. Sheri the nurse is great (from post surgical unit) as well as Annie and ray PCT. they will treat you will so much respect and Sheri was the only one that explained everything well and seemed that she truly cared (not just run out of your room). Is that will you be having your surgery done? I'm 3 wks post op and I truly feel GREAT...no complications at all nor bad experiences... I am still a little sore from the site where they took my stomach out of but that's normal since tissue and muscle is still healing. Keep me updated if u have any questions feel free to ask. Melissa. -
Need a surgeon in Chicagoland area...any recommendations?
lilmely08 replied to newme31's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello ladies I used Dr. Rantis (the Kane center) for my sleeve and he did an awesome job!! I love that doctor and that group...I originally was going to go with the Lapband but I had a talk with Rantis and here I am sleeved! I do not regret it at all! I'm 3 wks post op (yesterday) and am down 27 lbs. I would look into the Kane center if you are from the Chicagoland/suburbs area...they are GREAT & treat you with respect. -

I am glad to see that someone is from IL using the Kane Center I had surgery March 29. Dr Rantis did my surgery from the Kane center...I love that group! Everyone is wonderful, it's a great group, and I heard they truly care about you (at least my doctor did). All the doctors that went to see me during my hospital stay were great (the Kane center works with a great group at the hospital as well) DO IT!! Pick the Kane center...I'm sure you won't regret it...I didn't. I'm 3 wk post op (yesterday) and I feel great!! Where are you from in the IL area?? -
What did it feel like when you woke up from surgery?

What did it feel like when you woke up from surgery?
lilmely08 replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I woke up in the recovering room I honestly didn't feel nothing...I was just groggy and very thirsty from being NPO and intubated. I didn't pay attention to pain nor thought anything about my stomach being gone because I was so out of it. I was sleeved 2.5 wks ago and I still feel fine. The fact that my stomach is no longer there doesn't cross my mind. Luckily, I've had no complications nor pain (just after waking up for the first time when I had to walk). Make sure u walk walk walk because u will have a lot of air trapped in there and that is honestly the worst part, the air and trying to pass gas! Good luck I'm 2.5 wks post op and have lost a total of 25 lbs -

Cleaning out my closet!

Hello if you are cleaning out your closet and want to make cash & if you have a Facebook acct well you are in luck!! There are groups on there (plus size friendly) that you have to request to be a member of (totally private) then you can post your pictures of clothes on there and sell to make $$$. I have sold over $1500!! The names of the groups are Fattoo, plus size gallery, for fat sakes, Fattoo accesora. Only men are allowed in these groups... Sorry guys! Lol It's kinda like eBay but without the fees! Happy selling and shopping! -

10 Days Post Op - 10 Pounds in 10 Days
lilmely08 replied to McSleevey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations . It will only get better! I was sleeved on 3/29 and today I had my 10 day post op appt. I have lost 10 lbs as well; a total of 21 lbs with the shakes before surgery. Quick question, the incision where your stomach was pulled out from, does it have bruising around/red coloration to the cite? I have that and it itches like crazy!!!! Doc said it isn't infected though. -
I was sleeved on 3/29. I had my post op appt today and in those 10 days I have lost 21 lbs Day 1 at the hospital I was pretty much out of it. I did get a medicine pump where I was able to push the button every 6 minutes for the "good stuff" (but I didn't) I only pushed the button when I had to get up to use the rest-room or if I was in excruciating pain. Day 2 I felt like super woman...did laps around the nurses station a couple times per day (but then again I had the good medicine. Day 3 I felt like crap since my good medicine was discontinued. I was given liquid Vicodin and that really didn't help. I did suffer a lot from nausea but never did vomit. I did experience chest and back/left shoulder pain but it was due to the gas, so walk walk walk to get that gas moving. I've never felt so happy until day 5 when I finally FARTED!! Lol. It's hard to pass gas and it can be painful, but again, everyone is different. By day 6 I finally felt 95% better . It takes time, Patience, rest, and lots of walking. You will do great!!! Best of wishes to you and keep us updated Goodluck.

I was sleeved on the 29th of march and I feel you! I am sick of liquids...I can't wait to start eating even though its only going to be puréed or mashed up foods! How have you been doing? I'm down 20 lbs feels so good.

2 days post operation.
lilmely08 replied to lilmely08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I should be lucky that I didn't have a drain placed nor a catheter in. I was discharged yesterday from the hospital (Sunday) and I moved my bowels once there and had two episodes where I passed gas twice. Now at home, I've been urinating ok and so far I've moved my bowels twice!! I don't know if I'm forcing it out or not but I guess seeing a bowel movement is an improvement, isn't it?? I'm going to try heating pads...any other suggestions would help. Thanks. Mel -
Hello fellow sleevers. I am two days post op and let me tell you, I have terrible gas that I can't get out. How long am I going to feel like this?? I've been walking and moving around as directed. Also, how long is the abdomen (site) expected to feel sore?? How about moving your bowels?? I am just overwhelmed with everything and these gas pains aren't helping at all... Any suggestions at all or feedback is well accepted. Thanks Mel
