Sleeve revision to gastric bypass tomorrow
Chinadawn replied to nailsbyniki's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi Niki - I just found this thread and I am so sorry that things have not gone well. I had the sleeve done July 1, 2013 and did real well until the beginning of 2015 when I started have bad gerd, pain in my stomach and major issues with bloating. After months of tests, it was discovered that my gallbladder was no longer functioning and in May 2015 my gallbladder was removed. That helped with the bloating and some of the pain, but not the gerd. Finally it was decided to do a revision to a bypass this past October. The gerd is now gone, but now I have a painful spot in my stomach about 3 inches above my belly button - like a large knot - and I am gagging and throwing up about once a week. I am waiting to have an upper GI to see if I have a blockage. I am a little nervous, but hopefully we will figure it all and I will be better soon. I hope that things are somewhat better for you. I will keep you in my prayers. -

I was sleeved on July 1st and it took 5 days before I had a bowel movement. I did have to use Milk of Magnesia, but hated it. This past week, after being uncomfortable for a few days, I had about an ounce of prune juice (old fashioned way) and it worked in about 2.5 hours! Amazing - guess my grandmother was right.

Dr. Khayat at Kaiser in S. San Francisco is doing my surgery July 1st. I'm excited but also scared. My husband is worried that I will not be able to stay on the diet even after the surgery. I'm a little worried as well as I do enjoy good food and I am struggling to find interesting recipes that will work afterwards. Sorry this is kind of off topic.

scared of failure

Mourning is exactly what it is. Thank you so much for pointing that out. It really helped me look at things differently this AM. I am back to being excited again! -

scared of failure

I have also been worrying about failing as well. I finally passed all the hurdles and have my surgery date (July 1!) and suddenly I feel very ambivalent. I have Kaiser and there is a preop diet I am supposed to be on. I did okay while I was going through the classes and my meetings with my NUT and psych and then as soon as I got my date, I can't seem to stick with it. Has anyone else had this problem? My surgeon has warned me that he will cancel the surgery if I don't stay at my initial goal weight. And, of course, I have put on a couple of pounds. My husband is supportive but he is worried that I may sabotage myself. I do enjoy good food and wine and he is afraid that I am going to find the post op diet too restrictive. I turn 50 next month and I want my next 50 years to be healthy ones. I am over 100lbs overweight, but am fortunate to only be prediabetic and have sleep apnea. I really don't want to wait until I have more health issues. But part of me is apathetic. Has anyone else had these conflicting feelings? How did you deal with this? I would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks! -
Hope you are better soon!

Hi! I live in Novato (moving to Petaluma in the fall). I am waiting for my surgery date (with my work schedule, can't have surgery before July). Surgery will be Kaiser SSF. Everyone has been so nice there! Going to try a support group at Kaiser Santa Rosa tomorrow night.

Hi. My name is China and this is the first time that I have ever been involved with a forum. I started this journey a few months ago when I finally told myself that I needed to start looking out for myself. I am turning 50 next month, am married to a wonderful man (for over 25 years) and have two sons, ages 20 & 23. My older son has Asperger's Syndrome and both boys still live with us. I have done everything for everyone else in the family but started having back issues and difficulty breathing when walking up stairs. I have almost always been overweight except for a few times working with the Diet Center and Weight Watchers. But I would drop the weight and then something would come up and back up I went. I finally contacted my doctor when my weight went up to 272lbs and we had a discussion about my weight and the long term effects (I now have sleep apnea and am prediabetic) and she suggested the surgery. Long story short, I have gone through all the tests and visits, lost 10 lbs and have been okay'd for surgery - I am just waiting for my date (in July). So, what is really bugging me is that now that I have come this far, suddenly I have started sabotaging myself - not sticking to the presurgery diet and not excercising (always coming up with an excuse). Has anyone else had this issue? I am very frustrated with myself at this point and am looking for some support. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
