Please help. new post op question. sharp pain
Hevans posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery 12/16. I have felt great with minimal pain and have been off pain pills for a week. Today I was driving and slowly turned the wheel and felt a sharp stabbing pain at the large incision on the left. I am on the couch with a pain pill on board but most movement causes that horrific stabbing pain. What is this? What did I do? Please help. I feel like my first day post op. Thanks. ..ohh and first time poster. Hi.. -

Yah..I am on the couch alternating between heat and ice. I am surprised at how much one little stitch hurts and has landed me on my back. Thanks !! -
Hi Terri. I know legacy has support groups in person. I have been feeling great !! None of the minor complications that I expected. I had surgery on 12/16. I popped a stitch today which is painful but other than that no real pain.

I called her and she did say it was probably a pulled stitch... : (. Lay down with pain meds and call tomorrow if I am not feeling any better. -

BMI 40 but 2 year weight history BMI 35-40
Hevans replied to Dmog74's topic in Insurance & Financing
My insurance company was pretty strict about the BMI of over 40, however I have been under 40 at previous times in the last 10 years and I just submitted all my records for at least 5 years (not consecutive) that showed a BMI of over 40 ( I think it was 2004, 2006, 2007,2012,2013) which was enough to approve the surgery. -
Althought UHC does cover Weight Loss Procedures each policy is different. Bariatric Surgery is usually an additional add on the policy that employers choose to add to the traditional policy. If they have told you that it is an exclusion this means that the rider is not on your policy and unfortunately there is no way around that.

United Healthcare Choice Plus Point Of Service
Hevans replied to likemeagain's topic in Insurance & Financing
Each policy is different and it can also vary from state to state. In general UHCs policy is pretty open. You must have a BMI of over 40 for a period of at least 5 years and demonstrate that you have tried other options and these have failed. If your BMI is under 40 then you need to have specific co-morbidities. If you search United Health Care Bariatric Surgery Policy you can read it and see if there are additional qualifications for your state. -
Best of Luck !!

I have UHC. They have 3 requirements which is BMI of 40 or more, a 5 yr weight history and show that I have tried and failed. The only time I have been under a 40 BMI in the last 10 yrs was when I tried a diet and was on liquids for 8 mths in 2009/2010. I lost weight, but failed obviously. My insurance denied me for trying. I have an appeal in, but has anyone ever won an appeal? Thanks
-
My appeal is in and I sent in some older chart notes that shows a longer history of bmi, I also sent in pictures of myself so they could see. I am just feeling a little defeated and not supported by the clinic (they told me I had to do everything). It is good to hear some postive outcomes and congrats on your appeal.

What Did Your United Healthcare Cover?
Hevans replied to DreamsOfSkinny's topic in Insurance & Financing
So I don't understand. I am in the appeal process but uhc does cover bariatric surgery on my plan and they paid for all my preop labs, sleep study, pft, and consults, but have denied the actual surgery. I am left with thousands of oop costs( my ded is 800 and then coins). I don't understand how they would pay preop services but not the surgery? Any tips on the appeal process with them? Thanks -

If it is an exclusion on your policy then honestly you have a slin to none chance. Right now I am fighting with UHC because I have a extensive history of a bmi over 40, however in 2009 I lost weight from a liquid diet and they are trying to deny my surgery for the 6 months that I was under a 40 bmi (out of 30 years)..uggh -
Hi I am preparing for the sleeve in may. I am single mom to a 5yr old and need to plan for help. If all goes well how much help after the surgery will I need? Should I stay with someone post surgery? When do you think I can be alone with someone caring for me? Thanks
