    June surgery dates

I recently tried Click Espresso Mocha protein powder & it was good! I used mostly water, but added a splash of half & half & a little bit of cold coffee. I'm still pre-op, so not sure it will work post, but it was good & gave me the coffee hit I wanted.

    Atlanta,ga?

Close, I'm in Athens. Having surgery next month at Northside with Dr. Macik. How about you?
  7. Same here, Michele...my stuff was submitted last week. I called today, but no word yet. It took me since early Feb to get everything done & I never once thought about being denied or not getting approved. Now that it's out of my hands, it's all I can think about. What if, what if, what if...

    long Battle... with Aetna

I have just been submitted for approval to Aetna & I'm sweating out the wait time. My BMI is over 50, and I have bad mobility issues. I have my mind set on a June date, but all of a sudden I'm panicking that they won't approve me. Arrrggghhh...the waiting is so stressful!

    In my gown. Ha ha

    Good luck!
  11. I haven't, but I'm thinking about it. I have lots of mobility issues and it might be do-able for me, or at least a modified version.
  12. My pre-op diet will be 2 weeks of this, basically. Lean protein...fish, chicken, etc., lots of veggies, and < 20 carbs a day. I'm trying to shift over to that before the 2 weeks begins, just so it's not a shock to the system.
  13. Hi, gab & welcome! I also have Aetna and I'm planning surgery for June 19. I was (wow...past tense!) also a smoker, and my doc told me that I would have to quit smoking before surgery. I am not one of those folks who was always trying to quit, so I had not made a serious quit attempt in many years. However, once I found out this was a requirement to have the surgery, I decided that the time had come. I quit successfully on March 1st using a combination of Chantix and a rechargeable & refillable e-cigarette device for when the cravings got bad. I have been surprised at how smoothly it has gone, given that I smoked for close to 30 years. Best of luck to you!

    June sleevers?

I'm nervous & excited & anxious & all that, too. It's such a big step, but I feel like I'm as ready as I can make myself. The 5 or 6 people I know who have had some type of WLS are sick to death of me pestering them, and I'm sure they just want me to shut up already. But I have asked every question I can think of, and searched all over these threads for tips, advice, and giggles to make it all easier. Everybody's process seems a little different, but the support is so great & very much appreciated.

    June 2013 Sleevers! "The List"

Rebecca, this is so awesome!!! Thank you for doing this & yay for your OCD...love it!!
  19. Here's a list that I have bookmarked: http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/p/protein-shake-recipes.html I'm still pre-op, but have been trying out some different combos. Maybe something on the list will sound good to you. Good luck!

    Hello, new here.

Welcome! You'll find lots of good info here & support from some great folks. I am planning for June, and like you I'm both nervous and excited. It will be tough, but I think I'm ready. Good luck to you!

    Knee issues

Chelenka, I'm right there with you. I'm still pre-op, but I have started to lift some light weights for my upper body. My knees prevent me from doing much aerobic exercise or weights on my lower body. My ortho surgeon recommended those rubber resistance bands for my quads. You hold the band around your foot & flex the foot against the resistance. It's supposed to isolate & work your quads. Congrats on your progress so far!

    Food

Soybeans (edamame) are high protein, as well as lentils and some kinds of beans. I know there are carbs in the mix, but it's not the refined carbs of bread, pasta, etc. Both soybeans and lentils are best when they're not quite mushy, but they can also be cooked a little longer to a point where they can be mashed up. Also, you could always put unflavored protein powder in a veg puree, like from roasted carrots or cauliflower or sweet potatoes. You can also get high protein cottage cheese. Personally, I can't stand the texture of cottage cheese, so I run it through the blender or food processor to make it smooth & add other stuff to it. I'm still pre-op, too, but these are all ideas I've been experimenting with.

    June 2013 Sleevers GROUP

Aline, you may have seen one of my posts that Healthier2day quoted just above your comment. I am in grad school now, and I'm scheduling my sleeve for June 19th right between my 2 summer classes. I just turned 49, and like you I never had a chance to go to college earlier in life. I started school at age 44, graduated at 48 last May, and went straight into a masters program last August. In most of my classes I felt like I needed a t-shirt that said, "Yes, I am old enough to be your mama!" but it was also a really amazing experience.
  24. I'm totally with you. I would freak the hell out if I only had 14 days to prepare!! Even though I know full well that things may be way more different post-op than I am anticipating, and much of my preparation may be for naught, it still makes me feel better and more mentally ready. I was submitted for approval last week, but I am planning for June 19th, since that's the best day for my school schedule. I started in November with research and had 1st surgeon appt at the end of January. Good luck to all of the ever-so-slightly-OCD planners out there!
