  1. Well - it's true that the variation in Dr's orders is confusing. I think you do what's best for you and that your body will give you a clear signal if it's too soon for a particular food. I believe I'm just now supposed to start puree at 14 days post op. I already moved past that but I do take it slow and carefully. i have to say that since I added a little soft food here and there I feel 100% better. And I'm losing at a pretty good rate. 19 lbs in 2 weeks. I no longer hate my scale.

    Overate and Feel Lousy

Amen to that. Last night I ate 3/4 of a banana in about 40 minutes. i swear I could feel the banana squeezing back up.

    Negative Boyfriend

Amanda you look just lovely. Don't let the boyfriend bother you. He is obviously insecure about your weight loss. Judging from the picture I don't think you'd have any problem getting a new, improved boyfriend. My youngest child hasn't been to thrilled with my decision. It's just the adjustment from seeing Mom in one way his whole life and now he knows I will look different. You stand your ground. If your bf doesn't like it, then he can go find himself another fat chick and you can move along to a new bf. Trade up!

    Developing acid reflux after VSG

It must be a very common issue. I never had it before except when I was pregnant but now it's a problem. I take 2 Zantac a day and it's working pretty well. If I forget the Zantac my stomach reminds me pretty quickly.

    2days post op update

I think what Tammy said is true. I was sleeved on 3-8 and the first few days I was quite unhappy. Just the adjustment where food is concerned is a major bummer. I've been adding some foods each day and feel much better. Yes I'm adding them early - shoot me. The tiredness has been an issue but it finally seems to be getting better. Each day gets just a little easier and once you start eating a few things the food (or lack thereof) issue gets a whole lot better. I'm pretty sure that soon I will love the sleeve, especially with the downward trend on the scales:)
  6. I've been taking store brand Zantac twice a day. It works very well and if I forget to take it I'm reminded by my stomach to do so.
  7. You go jenn! I must admit that I don't find the notion too appetizing, but if you like it I hope you get lots of protein in that way. I haven't tried any carbonated beverages but if I wake up one day and decide I want it - then I shall have it. I've tried several other "no-no's" though and am getting along very well. Pay no mind to the negativity you get in some of the replies.Do what feels right for you and use common sense and you will be fine. Oh but wait ! I forgot that those of us who make their own decisions must have no common sense if we are to believe the negative folks:)

    2 weeks post op

Great job Nicole! Your weight loss so far is awesome. I'm 2 weeks out as well and have lost ( as of this morning) 18.5 pounds. I'm pretty sure all of us have done the diet thing - lose then gain it back. I didn't want to do that anymore so now I have the sleeve. It is a major adjustment and isn't that fun learning what to eat and how to eat it, but overall this is the best thing I eve did for myself. I admit I'll be glad when the initial adjustment period is over, but I guess if we are strong enough to take this step then we must be strong enough to adjust successfully. I'm so happy for you - keep the updates coming:)
  9. I got the sleeve on a Friday and went to work the following Tuesday. It was too soon. I worked all that week and was exhausted. That Friday afternoon I was feeling pretty run down. My boss made me mad and I told him to shove his job and I quit ( lol). Today is the middle of the 1st week that I have no job. I'm still tired but feeling a little better. Will probably look for new job starting next week or the week after. I do not feel bad, just tired a lot. I think I did too much too soon and am now paying for it.
  10. I'm able to eat scrambled eggs ( takes a while to eat just 1), soups with soft veggies in them, crackers with some soft cheese ( only 2 at a time), mashed potatoes if I only take a couple bites, and other soft foods of this nature. Things that have been disagreeable - 1/2 cup of soft serve ice cream made me feel ill, some tomato basil soup from Jason's Deli was too rich and I had to stop after 2 bites, and I find that I don't have a taste for mac and cheese. I'm 13 days out and can't eat very much which is good because that was the point of the surgery. The disagreeable things give a very clear signal to quit eating them immediately. So I quit. I haven't thrown up once since surgery and plan on keeping it that way.

    Sleeved March 8

I had surgery on March 8 too. I really haven't had a lot of pain to speak of but I'm tired all the time. Even 12-13 days out I'm still tired. Got some B complex, multi-vitamins, and Iron supplements. Hopefully that will help. It's been a big mental adjustment so far but I'm making it day by day. Too bad that something so worthwhile can't be easy too isn't it?? As of yesterday I am down 17.5 pounds. I've been eating some mushies the past few days. No problems and I feel a whole lot better even if I can only eat a very small amount. Good luck to everyone and may we all become the thin person we have only dreamed of up until now.
  12. I did the 3 day liquid diet and lost about 5 lbs before surgery. My BMI on surgery day was 35. I guess a lot depends on the particular surgeon, but I wouldn't worry too much about getting to Mexico and being turned away. For the most part the surgeons in Mexico are very capable and I wouldn't hesitate to return there for surgery, but the fact is they do it to make money. Do you have a coordinator you can contact to address this issue? Don't be afraid to ask for fear you'll be put on a watch list or something:)

    Normal

Good for you being able to eat the chicken at your own pace. You go girl! Don't worry about the nay-sayers. I would like some chicken too. If you got the ok to have it - then enjoy every bite. Luckily for us, the nay-sayers probably do not have a license to practice medicine. Otherwise we'd all starve.

    Frozen Yogurt Six days out?

Sorry for the late reply to this - but here we are again. The question asked about the frozen yogurt was just that - a question. There's always got to be someone who launches into a tirade about what THEY feel the proper thing to do may be. If the girl is going to get some frozen yogurt then she's gonna get it. No need to attack her decision or make her feel bad for considering it. I would suppose that if anyone here feels like they have the superior knowledge or personify the very definition of self control - well they wouldn't have needed a sleeve in the first place. Their knowledge and self control would have prevented them from being overweight at all.
  15. Me too. So hard to change habits such as eating too fast. I had some soup last night and ate maybe 4 ounces. Was too full! Hoping to get than hang of it any day now.

    Caffiene

I was sleeved on 3-8 and had some coffee on the 10th. I normally have a cup every morning but now I can only drink a couple ounces of it. Still better than no coffee at all. Most patients are told not to have coffee so I guess the choice to have it is an individual one. Good luck!
  17. Lol @ congratulations loser. We are all losers or will be losers very soon. Isn't it awesome?? Good job and best wishes for continued success.
  18. Most of us completely understand the post-op diet and the reasons for it. I've noticed several of us have chosen to advance our diets at our own pace. I'm one of them. The reason for this forum is for support and understanding from a group of people who have had VSG or will be getting it. There are always a few who will (nicely of course) inform the rest of us how we need to follow Dr's orders to the T, to not make any choices about diet on our own, and give a lot of potential negative consequences for making our own choices. I would imagine that we all know the potential risks and have determined that we are intelligent enough and have enough self control to make decisions about our own bodies. With the wide variance on post op diets set out by various doctors, it seems that there are many choices and courses of action. Not knocking following Dr's orders at all - just saying that if we choose to follow our own path, the same support should be given either way. I'm down 17.5 pounds in 12 days.
  19. I'm in Mesquite. Got the sleeve March 8 in Tijuana - Dr. Almanza. It's a big adjustment after surgery but it gets a little better each day. I haven't really had cravings for a particular food. I've just wanted food in general. I've moved ahead into soft foods already. I can only eat a little bit and take very small bites. I'm down 17 lbs in 12 days. Looking forward to losing more!
  20. lmao @ the stuff you drink tasting like ass

    March 8th sleevers!

I was sleeved on 3-8 too. It's not been a lot of fun trying to get protein and enough liquids. I'm tired all the time but figure this will wear off when I get good at getting in the required amounts. I had my stitches out today which was awesome. Sometimes I think I'm hungry but am then unable to drink much or have more than a couple tiny bites of yogurt. It really is a learning process. I'm very happy to have found some other March 8 sleevers:)

    11 days post op...

I'm 10 days out. I'm having trouble getting the liquids and proteins in. I normally drink a shake mixed in the blender with a banana, try to eat some soup or cream of wheat, and despise water. I think you are doing great. I'm going to keep plugging away and hopefully work my way up to the protein and liquid requirements.
  23. I don't know that this will be a popular reply to this question, but here's the truth anyway. I am 1 week post op. The Dr told me clear liquids for 2 weeks, puree for 2 more weeks, and then to soft foods. I don't like clear liquids. They suck. I started eating some yogurt on about day 4. No problems. Yesterday I ate some cream of wheat and felt much better. Today my entire family went to a restaurant. I went to the buffet and put some mashed potatoes, green beans, baked chicken, and macaroni on my plate. I took tiny little bites and chewed everything to death. I probably ate about an ounce and a half of food. I feel much better having had something and I do not feel sick or too full. Tomorrow I plan on taking two or three bites of soft scrambled eggs. No it's not on the plan. I tend to think that everyone tolerates things on an individual level. A little common sense and listening to the signs your body gives you will go a long way in determining what you can eat and when. Just saying.
