Pre/Post Surgical Plans Are Not Required

Hey wait.....and interesting thought just came to mind. This is just a thought. Certainly not directed to any one person or group of people. Perhaps the people who do not follow any advice at all are considered weak and dim witted. Perhaps the people who need the constant advice and guidance from surgeons and nutritionists are equally weak of mind. It is quite possible that everyone who gets WLS is dysfunctional in some way, which is why they let themselves become obese and need the surgery in the first place.

Pre/Post Surgical Plans Are Not Required

Lol...I actually did as i pleased before surgery, had no nutritional plan or guidance, did the exact same post op, had no guidance then either. I made it just fine, will compare my results with anyone else's any day, and I continue to do as I please. WLS is not one size fits all. Some people need the constant guidance in order to succeed and others get along fine by themselves. I have smoked anything I felt like smoking, not a big drinker but if I want it I have it, and I eat anything I please. I've never had a workout plan and I do not bother with things like Water consumption or counting calories, carbs, fat etc, Not trying to impose my mindset on anyone and not saying I am always right. Just saying there's more than one way to be a success.

What Gets You Going for Your Workout?

Is it bad if i admit that since WLS 3 years ago I haven't been to the gym, haven't made a point to walk around the block...nothing. I never work out, am not planning on working out, and am not sorry for that. That just doesn't sound very good at all, does it?
  5. I went by myself. The doctor's office staff took great care of me, I was never scared, and over all it was a lot easier not having to worry about someone else while I was there. They took me back to the airport and I went home. Quick and easy.

    Mexico

I did. March 2013. it was fine, no problems at all, doctors and staff very competent, sleeve works great.

    Help !

I did it too. I am not suggesting that it was the right thing to do, but I did it. i did not stretch my sleeve nor did any damage occur. 3 years later the sleeve works great. I never had a single bad consequence.

    Infidelity (long)

I'm gonna tell you the answer to your problem in 4 words. It isn't worth it. Mind your business and realize that the issue lies within you. You won't find what you seek through sexual relationships with men other than your husband. Whatever it is you seek can only come from within. Be good to yourself and don't engage in behavior that is hurtful to your loved ones or to you. In hurting someone else you will only hurt yourself more.

    Dumping

Something like that has happened to me a few times too. I've learned to recognize the impending doom and most of the time quit eating whatever it may be before it is too late. It is usually caused by too much sugar or occasionally at restaurants ( you never know what they are cooking with). Its very unpleasant! We each have our own sensitivities as far as food items that don't sit well. I guess one of yours is sour cream. I'm sorry you had that experience. it won't take you long to determine any other foods that disagree.
  10. In case anyone wonders what I'm really thinking (lol): So Alex posts about keeping BP a safe place. Great. It's his forum. He started it, he maintains it, and ultimately has the responsibility for the success or failure of the site. We have those who think there are some mean people here, those who think we have a bunch of whiners and complainers, those who apparently think they are the great bariatric enforcers, and those who follow either crowd just to find some acceptance and validation. Am I the only one that finished Jr High many many years ago? I think there's a lot of folks who need to get a grip, realize that this is an internet forum, and concentrate more on actual reality rather than cyber space. BP can be a valuable place for some people. Some have valid questions and valid replies to questions. Others want validation of their choices. Some want to carry a big stick and act like they must know everything. My final thought is this - WLS is about health, weight loss, and the emotional journey that is equally as important as the weight loss. There are many people here that need to concentrate on that last part because the constant carrying on indicates that the pounds may have dropped off but the emotional state is still a wreck.

So I had a bad day...

@@KristenLe So - you haven't had surgery yet? If I were more observant I would have noticed this by now I'm sure. I'm slow to catch on. I only ask because I see that you joined this site in March 2016, you've made way over 2000 posts, and I notice that you are among the first to respond to new members seeking guidance from those who have been there and done that. You must have really educated yourself on post op issues prior to considering WLS. Thanks so much for your contributions! You are a pro-active kinda gal.
  12. "All our members are polite, politically correct, sensitive, and joyously knowledgeable" said no internet forum ever. Unfortunately when you have any type public forum there will always be nice people, funny people, abrasive people, know-it-alls who really know very little, closed minded people who think their way is the only way, and desperately needy people who could not form an independent opinion if their lives depended on it. This is the world wide web, the blazing fast internet, the information super highway. There is really no way to control what type of person joins. You can spend your days trying to block the numerous a-holes or you can leave it up to each individual to determine who gives sound advice and responses. There will never be a day that you have an open forum consisting only of genuinely nice people. You can certainly ask for courtesy and respect from members but to think that everyone will cooperate is unrealistic. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.

    Confused.

It's been more than 3 years since I had WLS. Other than the first couple weeks after surgery, I have eaten anything I wanted, in whatever proportion I can manage to cram down, any time I've wanted to. I eat bread, rice, any other carbs, Little Debbie cakes, pie, candy bars, fried chicken, and Breakfast sandwiches from Whataburger. Keep in mind that I cannot eat very much at a time of any of these things. But if I want them I eat them. Occasionally I will gain a pound or 2, or 3, and I'll have to ease off the donut holes until it goes away which usually takes 2 or 3 days. I am certainly not advocating bad eating habit, I'm just saying I have bad eating habits, I still lost about all the weight I ever wanted to, and I am doing fine. Healthy as a horse and not fat. Don't spend too much time worrying, It'll all work out in the end.
  14. I hate it when I see someone I haven't seen in a while and they seem to treat me differently than when I was fat. They seem stand-offish, like they think I'm a completely new person and they don't know what to say. I'm still the same as when I was fat ...just not fat. I cannot figure why a change in appearance causes people to relate differently - or not relate at all. I also do not like having to hide jiggly skin.

    Dreading the Nausea!

I didn't have nausea at all and I never threw up. In fact, since surgery I have not thrown up one time. I seem to have lost the ability to do so. There have been a few times that I ate too much or ate something I shouldn't have and i wanted to throw up but simply cannot.
  16. I saw a Dr for a follow up one time after surgery. That was a week and a half later when I went to have my stitches taken out. I'm fine, everything was fine, and I have done very well. . It wasn't the Dr that did my surgery who gave me 'my life back'. It was me who opted for WLS, me who took on the responsibility of making sure I was successful, and me who can be credited with my long term weight loss. I paid the Dr for WLS. He gave me nothing except a service for which he was compensated.

Do I really need a passport?

When I came back from Mexico there were 2 men riding with me that had no passport. The driver spoke to the officials at the border ( just thru the car window) and they showed an ID and birth certificate and went back into the US no problem.

Oh, how easily we sabotage ourselves...

It's going to work:) i understand your frustration at extremely slow weight loss. Hang in there. The pounds will come off. You are going to do great.

    Confessions of overeating...

Lol no. I do it because I just want to keep eating.
  20. Well here we go again. So you ate a couple bites of bacon shortly after surgery. The best idea? No....lol...even I waited 2.5 weeks for some bacon. It didn't kill you, you haven't developed a leak, and you are still on the losing track, however slowly that may be. It's unfortunate that your Dr regrets giving you the conversion but the fact remains that he did. Here's my advice on this matter: Do not put up with disrespect from your Dr. Yes, he's right about the bacon but this is the deal - you pay him for his services. He is not God, does not know everything, and quite frankly is crazy as hell to ask you to stay on Clear Liquids that long. If he cannot speak to you respectfully, no matter what dumb thing you did, then replace him. Immediately. Don't eat bacon yet. Wait a little longer. Don't let anyone, whether a medical professional or a member of an internet forum, tell you how YOUR body will react to any situation. You know yourself, you know your body, and hopefully after the bacon incident you will know that you need to use your best judgment. Oh and PS: it isn't actual hunger you are feeling. You probably don't believe that. So go ahead and think what you'd like until you figure this thing out. But it isn't hunger. It's your head. I say this because I've been there. Back in the day I even went so far as to tell some members of this group that they didn't even know what they were talking about..lol. Well they were right. I wan't hungry. My head and my emotions wanted food. You'll be ok. Just open your mind to the fact that there are many bridges you will be crossing post op. You think you know them all but you don't. A whole new world of self-discovery is waiting for you.

    Surgery in Tijuana

I stayed 1 night , surgery the next morning, left the day after surgery about 5 pm. I was tired and the walk thru the airport seemed to take forever but I made it just fine.

Is it lack of energy or depression?

@@VSGAnn2014 is exactly right. Why did we all have this surgery? To combat obesity. Why are we obese? Because we eat too much food. Why do we eat too much food? It's our comfort. Why would we seek comfort from food? And there you have it.....as a coping mechanism and an escape for what is really bothering us. When you lose your ability to use food as a crutch all that's left is the cold hard truth. It is indeed depressing. Use this time in your life wisely. To try and come to terms with what's really bothering you is one of the hardest things you'll ever have to do. Stay the course and understand that the depression and lack of energy you are experiencing is part of this ride. You'll come out stronger and better in the end.

I did. Went by myself and everything was fine.

    Alcohol

Here's an example: Tonight went out to eat and ordered my favorite drink which is 7UP, pineapple juice, and coconut rum. I love those things. I drank 1/3 of it before the food arrived, drank another 1/3 while eating the food, got full after 6-7 bites of taco salad, left the remaining 1/3 of the drink there when I left. It's kind of irritating, but very true that the drinks take the place of food as far as the amount of room you have in your stomach. Pre-sleeve I'd have eaten the entire salad and had 2 drinks and then would have been wondering about dessert. Now I have to choose carefully at restaurants. The upside to my irritation is that I'm never the fattest person in the restaurant. Life is compromise I guess. Just my observation for the day.

    Alcohol

Lol. Lupita you are about to receive a lot of commentary. My reply would be if you want a drink then get one and sip slowly. Keep in mind that alcohol may affect you a lot faster now and in a more dramatic fashion. Don't count on being able to drink the whole thing. Just use caution and stop when it's enough.
