  1. Too bad I don't have any percocet. Or a valium or something. I hope rollargirl becomes the hottest babe on this forum after her surgery with a 30 BMI that she's getting in Mexico and paying cash for. I went to Mexico and paid cash too. And today I ate most of a piece of fried chicken and I'm not sorry In fact, it was darn good and I wish I could hold more because I would eat it too. There ya go rollargirl - maybe they will quit worrying about you in order to scold me for my fried chicken eating ways:)

    Newbie with questions about hunger...

I was miserable because I ate again and really didn't need to. The thought that I needed to eat more was just that - a thought rather than a clear signal from my body that it needed food. The head hunger thing is a battle that seems to go on and on. I had eaten about 600 calories for the day and by 9 pm felt that wasn't enough. I ate more and was so full I could hardly move. I'm planning on eating today at about 10:30-11 this morning. But I won't feel any hunger . I will just eat because I know it's time. Then I will eat about 4 ounces of food and be full. The sleeve is a wonderful thing and I am glad I did it. It's the battle with food that I fight inside my head that isn't any fun. But it's ok because when I eat too much, too fast, or eat the wrong thing my new stomach lets me know right away. It sends a very clear message that you just cannot ignore. I am now eating most anything I choose and that has been helpful. The liquids suck and the pureed food is gross, but when you move along to some regular food it gets a whole lot easier.

    Newbie with questions about hunger...

Hi Amy and welcome. The head hunger is very tricky. You swear that you are starving and may pass out of you don't get some food. So you battle your way through it. Then a few weeks later you realize that it was head hunger and you wonder why you were unable to recognize it. I can honestly tell you that at one month out I am never hungry. I eat regularly because I'm supposed to and I do still want food, but it's not because I'm hungry. I just want it. Sometimes I get annoyed that I can't eat more ( go figure) because less than a cup of food fills me up. The restriction is unbelievable. I had dinner at 6 last night. I hadn't eaten much all day so about 9 I decided I needed to eat again. So I ate more then was miserable. It's just crazy trying to figure out this new way of life. BUT - it does get easier with each day.

    Post op march sleevers

Me too. The 3 week stall is driving me bats!!t. Hoping to get the scale moving again any day. Other than that I feel pretty good. Have been tired since the very 1st day but is gets slightly better all the time. I may feel like my normal self very soon. I am tolerating most anything I've tried to eat and the restriction is great. Maybe even more restriction than I had planned on.
  6. I didn't have any comorbites either. I probably would have developed some later but for now I have been perfectly healthy. I had the surgery for one simple reason - I wanted to loose weight and feel more attractive. That's it. I guess that means I did it for vanity reasons. But you know - so what? I am 4 weeks post op, down 20 lbs, and having the dreaded first stall. The scale will start moving again, I'm just sure of it. I am unable to eat very much but when I do eat, I eat whatever I darn well please. I'm not concerned with low carbs, low sugar, or anything like that. I don't eat much so I'll loose weight. Am I vain? I guess so but that's why I got the sleeve, My BMI on surgery day was 35. I don't care if I'm vain or superficial. I just wanna be thinner

    stall at 4 weeks

Me too lotti. It sucks doesn't it?? I suppose the scale is bound to start moving soon. There is just no way you can eat less than 900 calories a day and not lose weight. But the waiting game is just ridiculous!

    Stuggling!

Fabtina I felt blah too. In fact, I still feel partially blah right now. I'm one month out. It get a little better as the days go by. You should really try to find some foods you can eat. I know you don't want them but you need to eat. You'll feel better. I hate trying to get in the liquids too. It's such a hassle. But once again I feel better the more I drink. Hang in there:) I know it sounds like a broken record to say it gets better all the time...but it does. Maybe some of us have a harder time just adapting to this new life than others. I just dunno. But if you'll hang in there I will hang in there with you:) I'm hoping to turn back into my usual self any day now. Hopefully you will too and we can just be normal together. Keep your chin up and have faith. That way if I forget to keep mine up you can remind me.

Am i going to lose more?

I hate the stall! My scale hasn't moved in a week. Hoping it will move again soon.

    Recovery questions

Don't fear the recovery. While it's true some people have a hard time, most have a pretty easy time of it. After surgery I didn't feel any pain but I did feel like I'd done a million sit ups. It went away after a few days. I started eating soft foods after just a few days and now at about 4 weeks out I eat whatever I please. No issues. you have to eat very slowly or you may get sick. Your new sleeve will let you know right away if something isn't going to agree with you. Eat too fast, yes it feels like it is stuck. Just take it slow and baby yourself a little and all will be well. You will hear a lot of "dire warnings" about all the things that may make your staples pop out. Don't fear this either. Take your time and use your good sense and you will do just great. Note : I haven't thrown up once since getting the sleeve. Not a single time. You are going to be just fine:)

    12 days post op

I've had many of those blah days. They suck. Here's the good news - it WILL get better. Hang in there! There will surely be more days when nothing tastes good and you just feel crappy, but with each new week it gets a little easier. You are just having a normal recovery period:) The constipation sucks too. I think we all have it from time to time. There's Milk of Magnesia, Miralax, more fiber etc. Personally I take a couple of laxatives in pill from. Many people will say the pills are a bad choice and could cause problems. Maybe so and maybe not. I've had no problems. You can check with your Dr for suggestions or just make your own choice. You are having perfectly normal feelings:)

    Hello-Introduction

Hey there Sandra and welcome. From your description it sounds like you will certainly get your approval. Oh - and the waiting period and the course you have to take are major bummers but probably for the best. Make sure you understand what your new eating habits will consist of. That's really the hardest part, learning how to eat again and adjusting to the changes. So that just leaves your apprehension about the procedure itself. It does seem scary, but really it's not. The surgery carries very small risk of complications. While there are some that have a bad experience with the sleeve you will find that the majority of us had no major issues and a fairly easy recovery, if not an excellent recovery. Don't fear the surgery:) Easier said than done, yes, but it is a routine procedure and your Dr surely performs many of them. You got this! I wish you the best of luck and just keep on posting your concerns here - we will be there for you the whole process.
  14. The sleeve is the hands down winner.
  15. Good luck and congratulations! I hope both of you have a wonderful experience and an uneventful surgery. Oh - and I love Mexico! Even Tijuana:) be sure and go shopping if you can.

    Drinking Alcohol after VGS

I'm planning on having a drink, or at least 4 sips of one, real soon. It is worthy of mention however, that a lot of people have lowered tolerance for alcohol after the sleeve. My husband knows a man from work that had the sleeve about a year ago. This guy started having a few drinks on occasion, progressed to having drinks frequently to combat the frustration he felt over not being able to eat normally anymore, then ended up in rehab. Such a shame. The only good part is that he's lost a ton of weight and looks great. I've never been a big drinker so over doing it won't be a problem, but for some it could cause big problems.

    weight gain?

It's happening to me too. Very frustrating! I haven't eaten enough to keep a bird alive.
  18. Everything already stated above is true. I didn't realize how much I relied on food. I knew I ate too much and I knew that I had an emotional attachment to food. It was where I ran for comfort.. After surgery it came to my attention that food had more control over my life than I realized. I'm only a little more than 3 weeks post op. It has been very hard to change my relationship with food and I've only just begun. The 1st 2 weeks were the worst. I had to give myself a good talking to and make myself accept that my affair with food is over. Permanently. That being said, I don't regret getting the sleeve for one minute. I'm having the dreaded 3 week stall right now. It's just ridiculous. But I know the scale will move again soon and I know that my new eating habits are in my best interest. If you do your homework and prepare yourself for the huge changes you are about to make, the sleeve is great. Just make sure your ready because there is no going back.
  19. I think that is great! We need more people like you Bebee. I hope you have a trouble free experience and that your recipient lives a long and wonderful life. You made my day by sharing this. Thanks so much:)
  20. Oh my. I just checked this thread after several days. Seems I've missed quite a bit. What I have to say is this - if rollargirl wants the sleeve, can pay for it, and has a doctor that will do it for her, then why the big deal? Go for it is what I say. If I could have had this surgery a long time ago when I was a bit smaller then I would have. It didn't exist back then. When I found this forum I was very happy. I was sleeved in Mexico and don't have the support system that a lot of people have. I thought I would be able to get support without the childishness that goes on around here. Wrong! There are some folks here that are truly supportive and friendly. There are some that are still in Jr High mode, think they know it all, and have no problem making rude comments. To the latter I say go (fill in blank) yourself. I'm almost 47 years old and have little to no tolerance for loud-mouthed, know it all bozos. You go rollargirl and keep on posting. There's a few of us that will support you in whatever you decide.
  21. That's awesome Bebee. Are you donating a kidney to a friend or family member?
  22. I think you will be pretty safe with your weight loss and your BMI if you are going to Mexico. I went to Mexico as well. They don't seem to have many hoops to jump through like the drs here in the US.

Needed some reasons to smile today

I can relate to your bad weekend! I'm so glad you found some reasons to smile and the blackyeyed pea analogy is a good one. I would bet it's safe to say your kids have an amazing mom already:) And I think I have bad breath too.

    Trying to decide

A friend works for a bariatric surgeon. He told us that on a scale from 1-10, the bypass is a 9, the lap band a 4, and the sleeve a 10. I'm sorry to hear that you had surgery complications before. I hope you make the best decision for you and if you have the sleeve that you love it and have no further complications. I've had this sleeve for a little more than 3 weeks. Restriction? Oh yes! I used to eat like a big fat pig but not now. It's impossible. And the best part is that the little bit of a stomach I have left is all I'm ever gonna have. So it looks like I won't be eating like a pig ever again. Sometimes I'm a little sad about that but overall I'm happy with my decision and looking forward to watching the pounds disappear.

    Lap incision

I had terrible issues with incisions. They were somewhat infected when the stitches came out. I was told to use peroxide and keep them covered. The infection went away but these were the slowest healing incisions ever. They were extremely tender, very itchy, and kind of opened up a bit. I used the peroxide for a week and then switched over to some prescription steroid cream. They finally have started to heal nicely. They don't hurt or itch anymore and only mildly tender if I accidentally poke at them. But it was an ordeal! Hang in there an just do what your Dr tells you It will heal eventually:)
