  1. I have never seen Laura make a rude or spiteful post. In fact, she is one of the more caring people here.

    Nearly 8 weeks post op

I understand completely. I'm a slow loser too. I know that I could speed it up a bit if I were more diligent in my eating habits but I don't care for that much deprivation so I guess I'll just lose slower. I'm at 22 lbs in 6 weeks. Oddly, I seem to be losing some inches in spite of the slow moving scale. I've had no need for new clothes yet but the old ones are slowly getting bigger. Hang in there! You have done great so far:)

    Incisions

Yes! The same thing happened to me and it sucked quite a bit! To be quite honest, it took about 3-4 weeks to get rid of the extreme itch and rash all over my stomach. I made sure they were clean and dry, started using some cortisone and a good lotion about 3 times a day. I have sensitive skin anyway and the bandages, tape, and then bandaids didn't help matters any. After about 3 weeks of the cortisone, lotion, and refusing to use and type of covering things finally got a little better. I'm healed up pretty well now and that horrible itch is gone. Hang in there and be diligent with the cleanliness, cortisone, and some good skin-healing lotion. I used Cortisone 10 and some Curel Intense therapy but there's plenty of other brands that will work. I'm sorry you are experiencing this! It's awful. .

    Just ate a Wendy's cheeseburger!

Declare all you want fancynancy. That's why we are here - to discuss things as we see fit. In fact, I have a declaration right now - Last Thurs was my grandson's 5th birthday. He is the light of my life. Yesterday was my youngest son's 15th birthday, We haven't cut his cake yet because he was gone all day to a ROTC armed drill team competition. Yeah ...we not only eat cake but we teach our kids to shoot rifles as well. Tomorrow is my oldest son's birthday. He always wants brownie sundaes. That's 3 cakes in less than a week. And guess what??? I'm going to have a little bit of every one of them. No harm done. At least the cheeseburger has the 24g of protein.
  7. At 6 weeks I've had soda a time or two and some champagne. It didn't really have an adverse effect but I discovered that the carbonation sticks around a while in my stomach. Then when its time to eat something I can only eat 2 bites. One day it took me almost all day to drink a medium soda from Sonic. Couldn't eat a darn thing because of it. Some people don't have a problem at all.

    Post op and sweets

I guess I've had about every kind of sweets I've wanted post op. Sometimes it goes well and others it goes horribly wrong. Sometimes different food will have a different effect on different days. Not sure why but it's extremely unpleasant to have a bad reaction. i don't know if its dumping or not but I'll start to feel nauseous, too cold or too hot, and maybe a little dizzy. Then I'll have to go lay down. I've found that avoiding sweets in favor of something moderately nutritious is the best bet. Decent food choices have not made me feel bad once. Figures doesn't it??
  9. Cut yourself some slack. While it's not necessary to completely disregard your eating habits on vacation, it's also not necessary to put a damper on your spirits by worrying about it. Try to make a few good choices here and there, have some drinks if you want them, and don't sweat it if you gain a couple pounds. You'll remedy the situation when you get home and you'll have an awesome time on your cruise. You deserve some fun - go get it! Just don't go hog wild on the food and drink. Have what you want in moderation and you'll be just fine:) I could use a vacation too!

    Im new

Hi buttacup and welcome. Yep - it's almost universal to have these feelings. You'll go thru a lot of different emotions in the days to come. The good news is that you WILL start to feel like yourself again and at some point end up happier and more content than before your surgery. There's no timetable for that and everyone bounces back differently. Just focus on healing and minimizing the stress in your life and it will begin to get better. Some people bounce back quickly and others take a little longer. I'm at 6 weeks now and have just begun to feel normal in the past week or so. Others feel great in a matter of days. Hopefully you'll be one of the quick ones! Stay the course and be patient - you'll get there

    Just ate a Wendy's cheeseburger!

A couple of weeks ago my grandson made the mistake of leaving his McDonalds cheeseburger uneaten and in a place I could see it. So here's what I did: I cut it in half and proceeded to eat it. I ate a little more than half of the half and was full. I wanted the whole half but just couldn't do it. Tonight I made chili. Got about a cupful in a bowl with some cheese and a few Fritos. Ate maybe half a cup and 6-7 Fritos and was full. So the moral of the story is: Big eff-in deal if I got my hands on a cheeseburger or some Frito pie. Its not like I can eat much anyway. Perhaps my horrible food sins aren't so bad after all. Now I'm going to get half a cup of ice cream and see how it goes
  14. Oh yes - I've tried lots of things that probably should have been avoided. But this is the thing - if you eat something you really want sometimes and you stay within whatever calorie limit you've set for yourself, have you really been that bad? I don't think so. If the guilt of eating it bothers you, just try not to let it happen too often. No harm done. I think you are doing great.
  15. Sleeved on March 8 and am still tired a lot. It is better than before but still not 100%. I don't know why either but its really a hassle. I can eat and drink pretty easily but I do notice that the further out I get, the smaller the drinks and bites of food that I can take are getting. Its very strange. I get full easier now than I did 2-3 weeks ago. I wonder if this happens to anyone else? But you should probably call your Dr and ask about your inability to eat and drink w/o feeling sick. I hope you get better soon:)

    Just ate a Wendy's cheeseburger!

Uhhh...lighten up lady. Live and let live. You know the saying ...If you can't say something nice>>>>>.etc. To the cheeseburger eater - i hope it was the best cheeseburger you ever had. I had 3 bites of a BBQ sandwich last night at a concert. It was DELICIOUS and it was just too bad I had to give the rest to my son because I got full after the 3 bites. Oh - and I also had about 1/3 of a margarita. That was all I could hold. And it was darn good. ( Now I will sit and wait to be blasted for enjoying myself and prepare myself for the "You will FAIL" statements from the know-it-all experts)

    A question for smokers....

Yes - I didn't quit before surgery and didn't quit after. This doesn't mean its ok though. I've had no problems because of it and recovery went well. If you can quit then by all means do so. If you are unable to quit or are like me and just refuse to please be aware of the possible complications that could arise during surgery and that smoking could cause slower healing and recovery. Some surgeons actually do a nicotine test prior to surgery and will cancel if you fail the test. Be sure and check with yours to see if this is the case. I had surgery in Mexico and they didn't really care. They did the normal pre op testing (heart, lungs, blood work, etc)and I was cleared on all counts then the surgery was the next day.

    Am i wasting my time?

If its a matter of gaining less than 10 pounds to qualify - I say go for it!

    Gall bladder or c section?

C section is the worst in my book. In comparison the sleeve was a cake walk.

    6 days post op-newbie

EAS is found most anywhere. Kroger, Albertsons, Costco etc. Its pretty good but I won't drink it unless its mixed with something in the blender. I haven't tried the Premiere shakes but everyone says they are really good.
  24. Agree. I went into this thing planning on the lap band but the surgeon at the hospital convinced me otherwise. He even showed me a lap band that had been removed from a lady who came in for a revision. It was majorly disgusting - all corroded etc. I do know a lady that has been very successful with the band but it's my understanding that eventually it will have to be replaced. She is currently 3 years out and has lost 162 lbs. She looks great. I wonder if that's true about the band having to be replaced in all patients at some point?? Anyway - the sleeve is much better. No foreign objects left in your body and once its done - its done.

    Questio.

In the recovery room I was in right after surgery there were some stairs outside my door. I was walking up and down them within 5 hours post op to go check on some other ladies that just had surgery. It was kinda awkward carrying the IV with me but the stairs were no problem.
