May 6 post surgery
nervousnellie replied to capt kirk44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had mine today. I'm feeling so good! I hope it stays that way....but the pain pump probably helps (haha)! Glad you guys are doing well. It's great to hear! -
I just had my surgery today and Dr. repaired one that I didn't know I had either. My surgeon said the same thing as TES'--most sleeve patients have them and many have no idea. It's very common!

A Rant: Did you not read anything on this site before asking? Are you new here?!

A Rant: Did you not read anything on this site before asking? Are you new here?!
nervousnellie replied to rebecca_dsu's topic in Rants & Raves
I totally understand you're rant. The questions can be redundant on here sometimes. However, the answers could always be a little different. People active on these boards rotate a lot and I sometimes like revisiting to read the new answers. Or, if I see that it's likely super redundant, I just choose not to read the post at all! -
So I am now post-op. Sitting in my hospital room right now. Everything went smoothly apparently, but I had a hiatal hernia that I knew nothing about. So, that was repaired too. I truly hope that this will help my reflux! I was in pain when I woke up, but got a lot of good meds in recovery. I have been feeling pretty okay until about an hour ago and started having sharp, shooting pains under my ribcage. They really hurt. They just gave me a pain pump though so I hope after I get several doses in that it will subside. I think that the pain is really more from the hernia repair--it hurts fairly bad when I take anything but shallow breaths. I having been sipping Water regularly since I got to my room and haven't had any problems with that. I asked to get up and walk right when I arrived in the room, but was told no because it was too soon. Hopefully I will start walking soon! Just thought I would give an update, plus I'm pretty bored right now too I am super excited to begin my journey! Thanks to everyone on this board for your posts and answered questions. It has meant a lot in my preparations!

No fashion sense...where do I get some?
nervousnellie replied to Afrodite82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ask friends for help. I have a few friends who are much better at styling than me. We either go shopping for girls day or they come over before we go out and they help me put an outfit together. I think it has helped me some b/c they put together things I would never think of... -
Thanks...I may try them frozen!

Does it taste like regular babyfood or is it different? I know my friends kids' adore these, but I have never thought of trying them. Are they high in protein/carbs, etc...?

Worried about bad breath
nervousnellie replied to mis_fit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have advice, but wanted to let you know that I have had the same worries! Since starting the pre-op liquid diet, I have an awful taste in my mouth all the time. I am so scared I have bad breath! I just use breath mints and brush my teeth a lot! Good Luck! -
Any Tennessee Sleevers Out There?
nervousnellie replied to BigMommaNoMore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just thought I would say hello again. I posted earlier, but didn't know about approval yet. I was approved very quickly (within a few days). I was lucky because my insurance didn't require any of the supervised weight loss attempts. The whole process from initial seminar to surgery will be 5 weeks total for me. It's been a whirlwind. But, my surgery is in two days.. .May 8. Dr. Eckles is my surgeon. He's super nice and pretty laid back which I like b/c I tend to be nervous anyway (note the name nervousnellie). It's great to read that so many people had good experiences at MTMC. Keep the updates coming! -
cake batter flavor protein powder?
nervousnellie posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I have been using a Cupcake Batter flavored protein powder for my pre-op shakes, and enjoy it fairly well (for a liquid diet). It is made by a company called All the Whey. We have had this powder for several years (it was a 5 lb tub) but now I am running out. My research seems to show that All the Whey is no longer in business. I am looking for a replacement powder. It has 25g protein and 1g carb per serving. If you have any ideas of similar flavors out there, please let me know! Thanks! -
cake batter flavor protein powder?
nervousnellie replied to nervousnellie's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thanks! I can handle three carbs. I will have to look that up. I like the flavor I have so much better than anything else I tried. The company also made a cinnamon bun flavor that was super yummy in things like oatmeal. I hate that they have gone out of business! -
Need positivity from post op peeps!
nervousnellie replied to mamamareli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for this post. I am also having surgery on Wednesday! Best of Luck! -
I am May 8th also!

I agree with the Sabra pine nut flavor. I don't even love pine nuts, but that hummus is delicious!

I am allowed soup on my pre-op and post op liquid diet. It just needs to be creamy and not chunky. I add unjury unflavored protein powder and it's been a great alternative to shakes! But, it seems every doctor has different recommendations so you may want to ask their office.

I did my first cross fit class finally!
nervousnellie replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I did a week of Crossfit a few years ago. I could barely walk after the first class. I had to have foot surgery so had to stop and haven't gone back. I am thinking about giving it a try after I recouperate from VSG. Good for you for going. It's an amazing workout! -
Every credit card is different, but mine does not have a foreign transaction fee. I would not feel comfortable taking a lot of cash to Mexico (or anywhere for that matter). My bank does charge a small fee to use my debit card, but it is minimal. You may just want to check before you go. Good Luck!

Attention All-- Therapists/Counselors/social workers/psycologists?
nervousnellie replied to Evolving's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have a master's in counseling as well. I focused on school counseling and was planning on doing the extra classes/internships in order to work on my LPC. I moved right after graduation though and the city I moved to didn't have anywhere for me to take those classes. That was 8 years ago. I have worked in social services in family preservation/reunification for many years though. Currently unemployed (by choice) in order to focus on traveling with my husband (he has a really flexible schedule). One day I hope to go back to counseling but even my school license is currently expired so I'll have to deal with that. For now, I'm loving not working! -
anyone feel GREAT three days out?
nervousnellie replied to nervousnellie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much everyone--it's helpful to hear everyone's experiences. I will just wait and see how I feel, knowing that there will be a good chance I won't be up to it. That way I won't be disappointed! -
anyone feel GREAT three days out?
nervousnellie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay-- So I know this silly to be thinking about but I thought I would ask anyway... I just got my tentative surgery date for May 8. That's fantastic--just 2 weeks from today. The surgery is my priority, however, I have tickets to a concert for my favorite band of all time (Toad the Wet Sprocket) for May 11. I already know it's likely impossible to think about going, but I guess I just wanted you guys to confirm it. The concert is at a small theatre venue with seats. They rarely ever come to my area (Nashville) and don't tour much. Is there any chance at all I will feel like going? Were most of you guys still on pain meds on day three? Thanks for the input! -
Just got the confirmation---surgery on May 8 (that's two weeks away)! I wasn't expecting it to be so soon, but I'm glad I have less time to think and worry about it. So, I guess I am starting my 2 weeks of full liquids tomorrow!

What if they tell me im crazy?
nervousnellie replied to EllaJo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be fine! My psych evaluation was just talking to the psychological examiner for about 10 minutes and then taking the MMPI (500 questions--multiple choice). Just be honest--they can tell if you are lying. They really aren't trying to keep anyone from having surgery, but just want to make sure you have the tools to cope with the changes. Hang in there!
